Perhaps another option is having a libceres-cuda-dev / libceres3-cuda
packages that are built with CUDA?

Bug#837796: paraview: segfaults when performing query-based selections

2024-01-04 Thread Drew Parsons
Package: paraview
Followup-For: Bug #837796
Control: fixed -1 5.11.0+dfsg-1

I think this problem is now dealt with (paraview 5.11).

The query-based selection is not segfaulting now. The values are
found as described in the tutorial, and the 3D can image gets
highlighting indicated the selection points.

There is a warning message if python3-paraview is not installed,
though the selection nevertheless proceeds without segfault.
Selection proceeds cleanly if python3-paraview is installed.

Bug#894462: paraview: edges are blotted [regression]

2024-01-04 Thread Drew Parsons
Package: paraview
Followup-For: Bug #894462

The png generated by the procedure in this bug looks fine to me, using
current paraview (5.11). It's slightly blurry but no more than you'd
expect for a png file (it's raster image format, not a vector image
format, you can't expect to main high resolution if you zoom into the
pixels).

Can you confirm paraview 5.11 is meeting your image quality
expectations?

As far as I can tell, we can close this bug now.

Bug#1059953: libceres3: ceres-solver built without CUDA support

2024-01-04 Thread Francois Mazen
Hi Kip,

> I think the solution is to simply explicitly add nvidia-cuda-dev to the Build-
> Depends stanza of of the ceres-solver source package in debian/control.

The nvidia-cuda-dev package is part of the non-free area in the Debian archive
[1] because if does not comply with the DFSG [2].
If we set it as a build dependency of ceres-solver (and also the nvidia runtime
as a package dependency), it would move ceres-solver from the "main" area to the
"contrib" area of the Debian archive [3] which is likely unwanted.

For GPU acceleration in Debian, you may ask Ceres developers to support free
alternatives like ROCm/HIP, OpenCL or SYCL. Otherwise, you would have to build
the ceres-solver package yourself using the CMake CUDA flag.

Best,
François

It is required for the paraview python functionality.

Package: paraview
Version: 4.0.1-1ubuntu1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

I'm developing an application, which based on paraview custom app mod. When
build it on ubuntu 14.04 LTS,
I found that there are some bugs in paraview-dev-4.0.1. Here is the errors
output by cmake:
***
$HOME/Projects/ParaFlow/build> cmake ../
CMake Error at /usr/lib/cmake/paraview/ParaViewTargets.cmake:1498 (message):
The imported target "ProcessShader" references the file

 "/usr/bin/vtkProcessShader"

but this file does not exist. Possible reasons include:

  * The file was deleted, renamed, or moved to another location.

  * An install or uninstall procedure did not complete successfully.

  * The installation package was faulty and contained

 "/usr/lib/cmake/paraview/ParaViewTargets.cmake"

but not all the files it references.

Call Stack (most recent call first):
  /usr/lib/cmake/paraview/ParaViewConfig.cmake:36 (include)
  CMakeLists.txt:4 (find_package)

-- Configuring incomplete, errors occurred!
See also "$HOME/Projects/ParaFlow/build/CMakeFiles/CMakeOutput.log".
See also "$HOME/Projects/ParaFlow/build/CMakeFiles/CMakeError.log".
make: *** [cmake_check_build_system] Error 1
***
As the cmake says, this error is caused by the lack of some files, so we should
install the these files.
Finally I fixed this bug just by including the missed files in "paraview-
dev.install" and turn on the flag
"QT_TESTING_INSTALL_DEVELOPMENT" in "/debian/rules". These missed files should
be included by
paraview-dev for who wish to use paraview-dev's headers with cmake .

Meanwhile, some of the features in paraview's stable release were not enabled
in the debian releases,
such as "ViSit" and "CGNS". While without these features, paraview will be not
able to open some type of files.
To enable visit "ViSit" and "CGNS", we should turn "PARAVIEW_USE_VISITBRIDGE"
"VISIT_BUILD_READER_CGNS"
on and have small changes on the paraview's source code cause the config header
file of libcgns-dev.

which I believe seems to indicate the cmake version check system doesn't like
suffixes such as "+b2"

As it is now, it is therefore not possible to link to cmake using
paraview-config to find the include paths and link flags.

Package: paraview
Version: 5.4.1+dfsg3-1+b2
Severity: important

Dear paraview Debian package maintainers,
I've just found a regression.

In a nutshell, version 5.4.1 fails to save animations as AVI files
(while version 5.1.2 was perfectly capable of doing so).
Other animation formats (OGV, PNG images, ...) seem to work as
expected.

In order to reproduce the bug, you may use the attached test case
(but please note that any other temporal data set will do...).
The compressed tar archive includes a small Fortran program that
generates the sample data and a ParaView state file.

Steps to reproduce the bug:

  0) compile gen_waveplot3d.f (with gfortran or another
 Fortran compiler)

  1) run the executable

  2) start ParaView

 $ paraview --state=wave_anim.pvsm

  3) select Save Animation ... from the File menu

  4) set the parameters (the values seem to make no difference)

  5) save to file "wave_anim_test.avi" (or any other file name with .avi
 extension)

  6) the animation is not correctly saved as the requested AVI file
and Paraview prints the following error messages (on the terminal):

 [avi @ 0x55fa91dfe560] Using AVStream.codec.time_base as a timebase hint
to the muxer is deprecated. Set AVStream.time_base instead.
[avi @ 0x55fa91dfe560] Using AVStream.codec to pass codec parameters to
muxers is deprecated, use AVStream.codecpar instead.

I hope you can investigate and fix this bug soon, as losing this
functionality is a very annoying limitation...

Thanks for your time!
Bye.
