Bug#874727: libcoin80v5: Program using libcoin80v5 and any other library that uses lebexpat1 segfaults.

2017-09-09 Thread mlampert
Hi,

it breaks FreeCAD, the current version in Debian testing (0.16) and the next
version (0.17) which is currently under development.

Steps to reproduce in FreeCAD 0.16:
* open new file
* create a box (or some other part)
* switch to Path workbench and create a project
* edit tool table
* if you don't already have a tool table xml file add a tool and "Export" the
tool table
* "Import" the tool table -> segfault

HTH,
Markus

So far no one in the team is interested in PySide2 and our current
manpower does not allows us to even take it as a pet package. I don't
know if asking upstream to use PyQt5 (which is kind of more official)
would be a good idea, else someone needs to step up to maintain
PySide2. Of course [s]he is welcomed in the team to do that!

Kinds regards, Lisandro.

It appears this actually needs to be DEB_HOST_GNU_TYPE rather than
DEB_HOST_MULTIARCH here - which is generally the same thing, except on i386.

DEB_HOST_GNU_TYPE ?= $(shell dpkg-architecture -qDEB_HOST_GNU_TYPE)
DEB_HOST_ARCH_BITS ?= $(shell dpkg-architecture -qDEB_HOST_ARCH_BITS)

If I understand the various posts in the FreeCAD forums correct,
they seem to go for PySide2. It would be very helpful, if the
Debian Qt maintainers could package PySide2! Maybe before Qt4 is
removed, because otherwise some packages have to be removed just
to introduce them again. I don't think that packaging PySide2
outside of the Qt team makes sense, because PySide2 will be the
"official" Python API of Qt, if I'm not mistaken.

Hi! As you might know we the Qt/KDE team are preparing to remove Qt4
as [announced] in:

[announced]

Currently Qt4 has been dead upstream and we are starting to have problems
maintaining it, like for example in the [OpenSSL 1.1 support] case.

[OpenSSL 1.1 support]

In order to make this move, all packages directly or indirectly depending on
the Qt4 libraries have to either get ported to Qt5 or eventually get
removed from the Debian repositories.

Therefore, please take the time and:
- contact your upstream (if existing) and ask about the state of a Qt5
port of your application
- if there are no activities regarding porting, investigate whether there are
suitable alternatives for your users
- if there is a Qt5 port that is not yet packaged, consider packaging it
- if both the Qt4 and the Qt5 versions already coexist in the Debian
archives, consider removing the Qt4 version

= Porting =

Some of us where involved in various Qt4 to Qt5 migrations [migration] and we
know for sure that porting stuff from Qt4 to Qt5 is much much easier and less
painful than it was from Qt3 to Qt4.

We also understand that there is still a lot of software still using Qt4.

Don't forget to take a look at the C++ API changes page [apichanges] whenever
you start porting your application.

Bug#875085: oce: FTBFS with glibc 2.26: xlocale.h: no such file or directory

2017-09-09 Thread Steve Langasek
Package: oce
Version: 0.17.2-2
Severity: important
Tags: patch
User: ubuntu-de...@lists.ubuntu.com
Usertags: origin-ubuntu artful ubuntu-patch

Dear maintainers,

Ubuntu has moved to glibc 2.26, which now causes oce to fail to build from
source because it expects xlocale.h to be present and this header has been
removed upstream.

This header is non-standard and doesn't appear to provide any real value to
oce, which (correctly) treats locale_t as an opaque object anyway. I've
therefore applied the attached patch in Ubuntu to stop using xlocale.h at
all on glibc systems.

I don't know a timeline for glibc 2.26 in Debian, but when it does arrive
this will of course become a serious bug. You may wish to consider applying
this patch.

Cheers,

First, note that the problem has appeared because I have multiarchified atlas,
and therefore the libcblas.so.3 that it provides has moved from /usr/lib to
/usr/lib/. But in a sense the situation was already problematic
before that change , because two libraries with the same SONAME were in the
dynamic linker search path.

Same reasoning for #874803.

Now, I think there are two options for fixing this issue:

- completely dropping libcblas3 (and libcblas-dev). These two packages are
actually useless, because they provide the same C interface to BLAS than the
  other BLAS implementations (libblas3, libatlas3-base, libopenblas-base), but
  in a less optimized way;

- or making the two packages conflict.

Andreas (and others), what do you think?

Best,

I made a mistake here. Paradoxically libcblas-dev does not provide the
standardized C API for BLAS, which is called… “CBLAS”; it only provides the
Fortran API. See the discussion in
https://lists.debian.org/debian-science/2017/09/msg00038.html

This is a serious bug as it makes installation fail, and violates
sections 7.6.1 and 10.1 of the policy. An optimal solution would
consist in only one of the packages installing that file, and renaming
or removing the file in the other package. Depending on the
circumstances you might also consider Replace relations or file
diversions. If the conflicting situation cannot be resolved then, as a
last resort, the two packages have to declare a mutual
Conflict. Please take into account that Replaces, Conflicts and
diversions should only be used when packages provide different
implementations for the same functionality.

Here is a list of files that are known to be shared by both packages
(according to the Contents file for sid/amd64, which may be
slightly out of sync):

  /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libcblas.a
  /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libcblas.so

This bug has been filed against both packages. If you, the maintainers of
the two packages in question, have agreed on which of the packages will
resolve the problem please reassign the bug to that package. You may then
also register in the BTS that the other package is affected by the bug.

Package: libblacs-openmpi1
Version: 1.1-37+b1
Severity: serious

All three shared libs in the package are linked only with libc, while using
various MPI_*, BI_* etc symbols.

Interesting that rebuilding a package (with the patch for #848813) links these
libraries with various libmpi_* libs, partially fixing the problem. These are
the remaining symbols:

undefined symbol: Cblacs_pinfo (/usr/lib/libblacs-openmpi.so.1.1)

undefined symbol: BI_Iam(/usr/lib/libblacsCinit-openmpi.so.1.1)
undefined symbol: BI_F77_MPI_COMM_WORLD (/usr/lib/libblacsCinit-openmpi.so.1.1)
undefined symbol: BI_Np (/usr/lib/libblacsCinit-openmpi.so.1.1)
undefined symbol: bi_f77_get_constants_ (/usr/lib/libblacsCinit-openmpi.so.1.1)
undefined symbol: BI_BlacsErr (/usr/lib/libblacsCinit-openmpi.so.1.1)

undefined symbol: BI_Iam(/usr/lib/libblacsF77init-openmpi.so.1.1)
undefined symbol: BI_F77_MPI_COMM_WORLD (/usr/lib/libblacsF77init-
openmpi.so.1.1)
undefined symbol: BI_Np (/usr/lib/libblacsF77init-openmpi.so.1.1)
undefined symbol: bi_f77_get_constants_ (/usr/lib/libblacsF77init-
openmpi.so.1.1)
undefined symbol: bi_f77_init_ (/usr/lib/libblacsF77init-openmpi.so.1.1)

Hi,

during a test with piuparts I noticed your package is no longer
installable in sid:

python-bloom still depends on python-rosdep, but that was renamed to
python-rosdep2.

Bug#874727: libcoin80v5: Program using libcoin80v5 and any other library that uses lebexpat1 segfaults.

2017-09-09 Thread markus
Package: libcoin80v5
Version: 3.1.4~abc9f50+dfsg1-2
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks unrelated software

Dear Maintainer,

Due to the change in libexpat1 (since 2.2.0, currently at 2.2.3) the included
copy of it in libcoin results in segfaults of any program that uses libexpat1.
Specifically any program that uses xml from python and links against libcoin
will segfault.

The stacktrace looks like it is a problem with libexpat1 leading to a segfault
in XML_SetHashSalt - however looking at that function there is no way it could
possibly segfault - unless of course the provided XMLParser pointer does not
actually point to what expat expects to be an XMLParser - which is indeed the
case because the XMLParser instance was created by a call into lobcoin which is
still on libexpat 2.2.0.

please convert your package to multiarch. It is part of the dependency

Package: libblas-dev
Version: 3.7.1-1
User: helm...@debian.org
Usertags: rebootstrap
Control: affects -1 + src:lp-solve

libblas-dev Depends on gfortran and it provides libblas.so. Most users
depend on it with the libblas.so alternative. Another libblas.so
provider, libatlas-base-dev, does not depend on gfortran. Thus when
depending on libblas-dev | libblas.so, one cannot currently assume that
gfortran is present. That makes the gfortran dependency look weird.

This issue causes practical problems, because dose-builddebcheck finds
an installation set for cross building lp-solve that notably doesn't
include libblas-dev, but includes libatlas-base-dev instead. Trying to
build it with sbuild and the default resolver fails though as apt
doesn't consider this solution.

I see a number of routes forward here, each of which causes a change in
some package:

1. libblas-dev should demote its gfortran dependency to recommends
acknowledging the current state where libblas.so does not ensure
   gfortran presence.
2. libatlas-base-dev should start depending on gfortran.

I strongly prefer the former option, because gfortran is a compiler and
thus needs toolchain dependency translation for cross building. Such
translation is not yet available in the archive and any such dependency
will make the affected packages unusable for cross building. It also
looks like not every user of libblas-dev does need gfortran (e.g.
lp-solve doesn't need it). Some (currently buggy) packages may need the
explicit gfortran dependency then.

Please either demote the dependency or reassign this bug to
libatlas-base-dev.

Helmut
