  I use this mapping
  xmodmap -e 'keycode 116 = Multi_key'
So I can use this right-sided windows key to get æ and ½

Thanks to Jean-Michel and Patrice for their helpful answers. Problems
solved, I am actually learning to design my own keyboard layout!
Thanks. gtypist is also great, I am having fun with it.

There was however a misunderstanding I guess, as to my signature. It
wasn't meant to be a troll. First let me clear that I am not Nazi, I
have no sympathy with those dictators that created the second WW. I
have many Jewish friends across the world, I consider myself to be very
liberal and democrat, I am a great admirer of the French revolution and
have read the history of France as best as I could. It was my deep
feelings about the values of the French revolution that has led me to
start learning French.

[EMAIL PROTECTED] asked me where I am. I am an 18 year old
Iranian student, living and studying computer science in Cyprus. If
this is of any concern to you.

That signature, was just something that I believed in. It wasn't meant
to be a troll, honest. I am sorry if it has hurt anybody's feelings, I
should have probably checked my calendar. If I knew that today is the
D-Day, I wouldn't have sent that signature. I am utterly sorry for any
inconvenience I might have caused. Just please don't label anyone as a
troll, so easily.

Merci

I was contempt on not participating in this tread anymore, but after
bubble fishing Encore's message, I couldn't let this one go.

Aryan; guys, as you certainly know, was the name of a tribe that used to
live (perhaps) in northern Russia. For whatever the reason, they
migrated to south and settled in Iran and northern India. It is
debatable wether some European races are also Aryan or not, many
including me think they are not.

Iran, means the land of Aryans, we inhabitants of this country have
always called ourselves Aryans, and our former name (in old Persian)
was Aryan-avayaga which again means the land of Aryans. There is a
great article on the meaning of the word Aryan on wikipedia, please go
and read it.

Why am I writing all of this? because I am sick that everytime I talk to
a european, they automatically associate me with Hitler and Nazi!! This
is sick, and it is disgusting for me. Aryan is a very common name in
Iran, both as a first name and as a family name. It is probably as
common as names such as Michel or Jean are in French. And I as an
Iranian, am proud of my name, cause it is an Iranian name.

I don't know who gave that retard the idea to use such a persian name,
as the name of his chosen race. But he was wrong and his use of this
word was wrong. Get over it, Aryan has nothing to do with Nazism or
Hitler or any of that stuff. It is a truly Persian name.

I can of course try to understand you, my name, my signature, posting on
D-Day, all combined together, was enough to convince you that i am a
troll. Well, they say don't judge a book by its cover. They are right
in saying that.

Thanks, and sorry for all these off topic posts, but couldn't resist the
temptation to defend my self and my name.

Cheers

[English Message] how to type the ligature and learn the french keyboard

2004-06-05 Par sujet Aryan Ameri
Salut:

Sorry for writing in English, I don't know enough French yet to write in
it!

Well, as you might have guessed, I am trying to learn French, and it
doesn't help that I haven't been able to learn how to type properly in
French. I have been able to figure out how to write accent acute and
accent grave and circumflex, and the double dot sign like ï and ë (what
is it called in French by the way?) but I don't know how to type the
ligature (like for the word soeur ? How shall I join the O and E
together?) And I also have not been able to find the {} and [] keys in
the french keyboard, are they available?

BTW, I am using the default French keyboard, I also see two more french
keyboards in my keyboard layout list, one called French Alternative,
and the other one is French Canadian. I can guess what the French
Canadian is, but what is the French Alternative? Which one should I
use?

Also, are there any online free tutorials available that teach typing
properly in french? I remember years ago when I was learning how to
type English, I found a bunch of tutorials that enabled me to learn
typing English properly. I googled a bit, but didn't find anything
useful.

Thanks for the help, and also please CC me in your replies, cause
obviously I am not a member of the french list (yet)!

Cheers
