Vou fazer mais umas tentativas depois, então retorno os resultados.

Pelo menos o driver nv está funcionando bem. Essa placa tem uma 
/performance/ muito superior à SIS-6326 16MB que eu usava. Mas ainda 
quero tentar compilar e instalar o driver para poder usar a aceleração.

O efeito foi nulo. O framebuffer continua sendo ativado no boot. Parece

Há outras opções a tentar, a partir da mensagem de erro do instalador da

-- Versão incorreta do gcc (precisa ser 4.2 -- já desinstalei o 4.3 e 
fiz um link do /usr/bin/cc para o gcc-4.2);


-- Configurar o kernel (não tenho idéia de como fazer isso);

-- Remover módulos conflitantes (nvidiafb e um outro que não me lembro, 
mas acho que não tenho).


Quando puder, vou reiniciar a máquina e fazer mais tentativas.

Vou ver se há alguma opção mais verborrágica do programa de instalação. 
De qualquer modo, a compilação parece ocorrer no diretório /tmp/, e 
portanto os arquivos são perdidos no reboot. Talvez o programa não acabe 
a instalação por não ter conseguido carregar o módulo.


O pior é que, com o driver 'nv' que estou usando, o vídeo está travando 
(congelando) após algum tempo de uso, se eu tento passar para um 
terminal. (Ou às vezes sozinho.)

Ok,

Algum resultado com o blacklist (sem o .conf)?

Os drivers conflitantes costumam ser: nvidiafb, rivafb ou rivatv. 
Mais detalhes na documentação da NVidia:
http://us.download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86/173.14.20/README/index.html


Você ainda pode extrair os arquivos do pacote via:

#sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-173.14.20-pkg1.run --extract-only

Rodar o make para compilar o driver (mais depurado).

#cd NVIDIA-Linux-x86-173.14.20-pkg1/usr/src/nv/

#make module
#make install

Veja o resultado.

É importante verificar se o módulo foi corretamente instalado em
seu /lib/modules/ e também verificar o dmesg para mensagens da
inicialização.

Olá,

Comprei uma placa de vídeo nova, e ainda não tive sucesso em configurá-la.

Baixei o instalador do sítio da nvidia. Tive que instalar fontes e 
cabeçalhos do Linux, e rebaixar a versão do gcc.


Agora o instalador compila silenciosamente, mas diz não poder carregar o 
módulo. Pede para remover módulos como nvidiafb. Esse módulo de fato
