Well, IANAL, but it seems that permission is not granted to modify the
program, so you probably can't package it for debian.

However, if I am right, this can probably be fixed by asking upstream to
modify the license.

It's the same licence as libjpeg62:

/usr/share/doc/libjpeg62/copyright:
==
In plain English:

1. We don't promise that this software works. (But if you find any bugs,
   please let us know!)
2. You can use this software for whatever you want. You don't have to pay us.
3. You may not pretend that you wrote this software. If you use it in a
program, you must acknowledge somewhere in your documentation that
   you've used the IJG code.
==

libjpeg62 is packaged and is main (not non-free distribution).

Anyway, I'll ask.

Bug#128042: ITP: libtar -- C library for manipulating tar archives

2002-01-06 Thread Glenn McGrath
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

I intend to package libtar, which is available from
http://www-dev.cso.uiuc.edu/libtar/ its a c library for
creating/extracting tar archives.

I want use the package in a project i am working on, the only projects i
know of that use libtar are epkg and i think some slackware packaging
tool (they have no debian packages). tar is a pretty fundamental tool so
i think it will be a useful library to have.

Current progress of my packaging effort is at
people.debian.org/~bug1/libtar problems i need to fix before uploading
are, - shared library version number
 - fix up example application
 - add build dependencies

In order to build the shared library i changed the build system to use
libtool and autoconf v2.5, my config files introduce some problems that
upstream doesnt have, so i need to improve them before trying to sync
them with upstream.

Description: Protection against buffer overflow vulnerabilities
Libsafe is a library that works with any pre-compiled executable and can be
used transparently. Libsafe intercepts calls to functions known as
vulnerable, libsafe uses a substitute version of the function that
implements the same functionality, but makes sure any buffer overflows are
contained within the current stack frame.

The libmng library supports decoding, displaying, encoding, and various
other manipulations of the Multiple-image Network Graphics (MNG) format
image files. It uses the zlib compression library, and optionally the
JPEG library by the Independent JPEG Group (IJG) and/or
lcms (little cms), a color-management library by Marti Maria Saguar.

Unfortunately time is getting the better of me and, as my finals are
approaching I was planning to put it up for adoption anyway :-(

I'm fairly certain that this was because the original orphan report had a

Hi Daniel,

I'm a KDE hacker. I would like to eventually adopt KDE3 packages. Could Chris
please contact me?

Unfortunately I'm not available until February, but if you have any problems
I'd try to help.

Thanks,

Bug#127974: O: epan -- offline ethernet protocol analyzer

2002-01-06 Thread Angel Ramos
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I haven't the source code and I can't solve the bugs there are opened.
Not much to do about this package. I orphane it.

Package: epan 1.3.1-4 [non-free]
offline ethernet protocol analyzer

This program allows you to capture data from network devices like
ethernet, SLIP or PPP and analyze this data. You can decode the captured
data in detail, i.e. you'll see all the details of protocols like IP,
TCP, UDP, DNS or RIP. Epan currently contains more than 25 protocol
decoders.

I no longer have the time to effectively maintain this package.

Maintenance has consisted of mainly fixing typos and moving fortunes from

Bug#127979: RFP: netjuke -- yet another web-based audio streaming jukebox

2002-01-06 Thread Robert McQueen
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

  Package name: netjuke
  Version : 1.0b1
  URL : http://netjuke.sourceforge.net/home.html
  License : BSD
Description : yet another web-based audio streaming jukebox

This caught my eye on freshmeat the other day, looks like a nice prog
for the old MP3 jukebox idea for someone's home or office. Thought
someone might like to have a go packaging it.

Regards,
Rob
