Bug#151829: CPU package in debian

2003-08-29 Thread Guido Trotter

Hi,

I'm writing you about debian bug 151829 (bug cced for reference).
The bug is an RFP for cpu filed against the BTS on the 3rd of July, 2002.

On the 25th of April you appear to have answered to the bug report, with
subject ITP, so it may seem that you were preparing  package for CPU;
however you didn't retitle the bug report, nor you uploaded a package since
then.

So I'm writing to ask if you are (still) intrested in maintaining a debian
CPU package, or if you are no more.

In the first case: how is the preparation going? Are you going to upload it
soon? Do you have a sponsor for it? (in case you are not a DD, which
doesn't seem) Are you having trouble in your packaging?

In the second case, since I'm interested in having CPU in debian, may I go
ahead and package it? Would you like to co-maintain it?

Thanks,

Guido

PS in either case, since it's likely that CPU will be uploaded by one of us,
I'm going to retitle the bug into an ITP.

ayttm - package out of date

2003-08-29 Thread Joerg Morbitzer

Hi all,

I am not sure whether I subscribed to the correct mailing group,
however, I hope somebody can help me:

The ayttm package in unstable is still version 0.3.1 released a few
months ago by the current maintainer. Since then 5 new versions of
ayttm came out, but it looks like the maintainer is not working on it
any more. I sent him an email 3 weeks ago asking him about new debian
packages etc., but I didn't get any response unfortunately.

I now created my own ayttm debian package (ayttm version 0.4.0). What is
the procedure to get in touch with the current maintainer? Or how can I
provide my package to the debian users?

I am using Debian for 3 years now. As a system administrator I am
currently maintaining roughly 30 Debian PCs from remote, it is such a
nice Linux distribution that I would like to help with packaging some
software.

Kind regards, Joerg.

Bug#207713: O: cint -- A C/C++ interpreter

2003-08-29 Thread Richard Kreckel
Package: wnpp
Version: N/A; reported 2003-08-28
Severity: normal

I intend to orphan the cint package.
The package description is:
Cint (pronounced C-int) is a C/C++ interpreter. It has 80-90% coverage
of KR-C, ANSI-C and C++ language constructs (multiple inheritance, virtual
functions, function overloading, operator overloading, default parameters,
templates, etc.) Cint is solid enough to interpret its own source code and
let the interpreted interpreter interpret a (small) program. With the
program makecint it is possible to mix native code execution and
interpretation by linking to precompiled libraries.
 .
Cint is not aimed to be a 100% ANSI/ISO compliant C++ language processor.
It rather is a portable script language environment which is close enough
 to the standard C++.
 .
 See http://root.cern.ch/root/Cint.html for detailed information.

It's probably worth noting that the maintainer of ayttm has been active
in the BTS for this package over the last few days, closing his RC bugs
four days ago. You may want to open a wishlist bug against the package
mentioning the new version, and why it's better than the one currently
in the archive.

I now created my own ayttm debian package (ayttm version 0.4.0). What is

For questions of making your packages available to Debian users,
debian-mentors is probably the appropriate list.

Hi

Lets orphan kimagemapeditor. I havent used it for a long time now.
To be honest i havent maintained it for a long time. Well, it doesnt
look very active upstream (kimagemapeditor.sf.net).
If you take it you should upload a KDE3 version of it.

Description:
KImageMapEditor is a tool for Linux/KDE that allows you to load an
existing image map from an HTML file, edit it, and save the new map to a
new HTML file, that includes the appropriate image tag.

It can be fully integrated with Quanta since it can generate the map to
the standard output.=20

If you want this package please retitle this bug to ITA and upload a
new package as soon as possible. If you are no DD yet and need a
sponsor - i can do it.

Bug#207709: ITP: module-assistant -- helper script to automate kernel module building

2003-08-29 Thread Eduard Bloch
Package: wnpp
Version: unavailable; reported 2003-08-28
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: module-assistant
Version : 0.1 (currently beeing written)
Upstream Author : myself, nativ package
* URL : http://modass.alioth.debian.org (when it has been approved)
* License : LGPL
Description : helper script to automate kernel module building

Here the current usage info and rationale, package description will be
done when the most functionality is there:

#
# Script to assist users with building of the kernel modules
# First purpose: automate as much as possible for Joe User
# Second purpose: have a database about the source of module packages
# (and all steps needed to get it)
# Third purpose: provide general debian/rules include snippets
#

USAGE:

# autobuild name|all|dir-list [ alternatives headers dir, list ]
# locate the right kernel source or headers directory and build the
# given modules with them. Primary choice for most people.
#
# auto-install (ai)
# like autobuild but also tries to install the created packages
#
# list-available (la), list-installed (li), list-everything (le)
# get name|all|dir-list [ alternative headers dir, list ]
# download (gets implies download)
# update (update the lists, version numbers)
# build name|all|dir-list [ alternatives headers dir, list ]

# Lists are collon-separated

Directory tree of the module-assistant

How does the whole thing work?

Every package that should be controlled with modass provides a
maintainer script (see below) that accepts the following commands:

 update
updates the intenal data when needed, eg. version number.
Scripts can do whatever they want, any may use the
/var/lib/modass/cache directory as playground for caching the
data.

 version
outputs the current version of the package; syntax == dpkg-style

 lastpkg
outputs the filename (full path) of the last built package.
Empty if the build was not successful.

 download
installs the source package or fetches the source with
apt-get/apt-src/whatever

 unpack
unpacks the downloaded package source in $MODULE_LOC

 purge
removes the working source directory and cached data

 purge-all
like purge plus removes the binary packages built from the
source

Ressource directory (planned location: /usr/share/modass)

modass
|-- include (files to be sourced by package maintaining scripts and
 makefile includes)
|-- overrides (package maintscripts taking precedence over the default ones)
`-- packages(some default scripts, provided by the modass package itself)

Package maintainence scripts are either shipped with module-assistant or
installed by other binary package that have something to do with the
modules. For example, cloop-utils installs one into modass/overrides/.

Of course no module source package does support all this know. For this
reason, I plan to import them all in a big SVN repository on alioth,
having the Debian branch and Modified branch and working on them. All
good things from their rules files will be extracted and merged into
common rules which will become part of module-assistang (similar to the
story of dbs and dpatch packages).

Eduard.

Hi

Another one, kxmleditor is O: now.
As with the other kde package i just orphaned i havent used it for a
long time now. And havent maintained it as it should be maintained.
Upstream is active here. There is a 0.8 beta at their site
(kxmleditor.sf.net).

Description:
KXML Editor is simple program, that display and edit contents of XML
file. Left side contain tree with XML document structure, right side
contain list of attributes for selected XML element and its contents.

The one that takes this package should retitle this Bug to ITA: and
upload a KDE3 ready version of it.
If you are not a DD yet and need a sponsor i can do that.

Hi AM! =]

I'm really delayed with this package, because of real-life issues, but I
think I'll have it up at http://people.d.o/~costela/ by the weekend (I
had promised upstream it would be up LAST weekend... =/ ...)

I'll let you know when it hits the web!

Cheers

Description : a standalone redesign of the Mozilla mail component

Mozilla's Thunderbird mail client is a redesign of the Mozilla mail
component. Our goal is to produce a cross platform stand alone mail
application using the XUL user interface language. We are modeling
ourselves after the Mozilla Firebird rewrite of the Mozilla browser. Our
intended customer is someone who uses Mozilla Firebird (or another non
mozilla.exe browser) as their primary browser and wants a mail client
based on mozilla that plays nice with their browser. Currently,
mozilla -mail is not a good option for these users because link clicks
and attachments end up going to mozilla browser windows instead of the
preferred browser. In addition, by focusing solely on stand alone mail,
we believe we can make some dents in the overall footprint and
performance of the mail client by removing components and chrome we
don't need. On top of that, the UI becomes much cleaner as a stand alone
application as opposed to being part of the mozilla suite.
