Yep. Sorry I had some problems with account where my @debian.org mails are
forwarded. Should be fine now.

I read about this a few days ago and also thought about
 looking at it.
Do you have a preliminary package ready yet?

Yes and not ;)

I have some preliminary package but it simply doesn't work now, so there's
nothing to show.

If you need someone to test it, I would like to :-)

Believe me that there are plenty of people wanting to test it, and I'll
announce in this bugreport when there'll be something to show.

Please be patient... I've got some exams ;)

On my test box it started system almost *three* times faster.

I guess the obvious question would be .. does it require any
changes to the init.d scripts themselves to gain this speedup?

Yes and no ;)

By default it's total replacement of old init system. It comes with its own
starting scripts by default. And they're very gentooish, but hey.
all this packaging is about to integrate it with Debian.

Or is the asynchronous nature sufficient to boost startup
  performance?

I'm going to try to use our existing scripts although it needs some
tweaking cause we don't have any dependency information in them.

If that is the case that'd be great - but I'd be initially
suspicious unless it could ensure the correct ordering such
that network access is available before servers start, etc.

Its starting scripts keep information about ordering. I suppose that for
now it will be packaged to be used as a total replacement of our init
system. But maybe some minor changes in our init.d scripts policy would
allow us to use it with Debian scripts.

We'll see. I'm quite busy now with my exams so I didn't look much into the
code.

Bug#311479: Progress on Nexuiz

2005-06-28 Thread Alexander Schmehl
Hi!

So far I didn't made much progress on the Nexuiz packages. Mainly
because I'm currently on the road a lot, and Nexuiz doesn't support my
iBook. I probaly won't be able to test packages on my i386 at home
before the end of DebConf.

So, if someone else wants to stepp in feel free to take over this ITP
(not renaming it, because I'm still interested in packaging).

Yours sincerely,
  Alexander

  Description : Puffin Automation Framework

From the web page:

As it's name implies, Puffin allows you to automate actions. An
action, in terms of Puffin, is any high level execution item that
may require inputs, may produce outputs, and whose results may be
validated for success or failure. For example, an action may involve
making an HTTP request to a dynamic web page. It may involve grabbing
a file's contents or even retrieving a specific email based on a
keyword in the subject line. All of these are actions in the sense
that they can be automated by Puffin. Puffin will manage all inputs,
outputs, and validation for these actions.

Bug#316189: RFP: lomount -- utility to mount partitions in a hard disk image

2005-06-28 Thread Luke Kenneth Casson Leighton
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: lomount
  Version : x.y.z
Upstream Author : Name [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL :
http://www.dad-answers.com/qemu/utilities/QEMU-HD-Mounter/lomount/
* License : (GPL, LGPL, BSD, MIT/X, etc.)
Description : utility to mount partitions in a hard disk image

(Include the long description here.)

very important but very simple program that can be used in combination
with xen and the automated-installer project (hands.com/d-i).

once you have a filesystem in a file (because the automated installer
is doing testing of debian installs in a xen guest session and it
needs to test _drive_ installs not _partition_ installs) you cannot
then access it.

except with this program you can.

The guards don't often love reading..
Toren came to me at age 32 months. He had 2 words: Ma Ma and Bye Bye. He could not focus, but ran around the room. His mother was convinced I was going to have him cured by his third birthday. I told her I was no miracle worker, but we'd do what we could during the next 4 months. Immediately we started structuring Toren's day. I went home and worked up a program called 'Toren's Nouns'. The first day I showed Toren the program, he looked at it for 10-15 seconds and then left the computer. The next day he stayed about 30 seconds. Each day he built up more time at the computer. By the second week, he would sit on my lap for 10 minutes pressing whichever word he wanted to hear. But he spoke no sounds, no words. Three weeks passed. I began berating myself. 'See, Jo, you thought this noun program was so great. Look at Toren, he's not learning anything.' The fourth week Toren walked over to the computer, picked up the overlay from the IntelliKeys keyboard, pointed to 10 different words
and approximated each word. That day, I cried..
That dentist is not enjoying writing near my home..
That librarian isn't enjoying jumping at the company..

EDWARDS: But what have we seen? Relentless negative attacks against John. So in the weeks ahead, we know what's coming, don't we?.
The politicians weren't enjoying jogging..
Brian was a boy with Down's Syndrome. He was taking several medications. Brian came from a nurturing family and extended family who provided him with every opportunity. His mother was a teacher and wanted what was best for him. He exhibited no language and was considerably behind his other friends with Down?s Syndrome. We set up a noun program at school. At first he seemed disinterested. He looked at the pictures and sucked his thumb. The more we encouraged him to engage the keyboard, the more he sucked his thumb. We then paired him with a child who was very interested in the noun program. Suddenly the two were fighting over who was next to pick a picture. He worked several times a week at the computer. At his 3-year IEP, the team shook their heads. They didn't understand. Despite the track record of many students with Down?s Syndrome, Brian's language was his best skill. I smiled and his mother winked at me..
But, I spent the next three weeks making a piece of simple software for her son to her specifications. While I was at it, I put 4-8 pictures on the screen as well. The simple program was finished and ready for her child to see. As I was presenting it, the other children in my classroom were pushing each other to get to the computer screen to touch that Touch Window and hear the word spoken again and again. I looked at these kids and was amazed. There was no music, no animation, nothing cute about this program at all, just real pictures with real words. I was stunned. I just watched the children. Within 10 minutes, several children who had never said a word in their life, made approximations of several words. I was hooked..

Since I am no longer in charge of the firewall that inspired me to get
this package into Debian, I am looking for a new maintainer or
co-maintainer. I'm willing to sponsor a new maintainer if you can fix
bug 232058, which may be release-critical for etch.
