Bug#323751: RFP: transolution -- Computer Aided Translation suite supporting XLIFF

2005-08-18 Thread W. Borgert
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

Package name: transolution
Version : 0.4beta4
Upstream Author : Fredrik Corneliusson fredrik.corneliusson |at| gmail.com,
  Fredrik Estreen estreen |at| gmail.com
URL : http://transolution.python-hosting.com/
License : GPL
Description : Computer Aided Translation suite supporting XLIFF

XLIFF = OASIS XML Localisation Interchange File Format

From the web page:

Transolution is a Computer Aided Translation (CAT) suite supporting
the XLIFF standard. It provides the open source community with
features and concepts that have been used by commercial offerings for
years to improve translation efficiency and quality. The suite is
modular to make it flexible and provides a XLIFF Editor, translation
memory engine and filters to convert different formats to and from
XLIFF. The use of XLIFF means that almost any content can be
localized as long as there is a filter for it (XML, SGML, PO, RTF,
StarOffice/OpenOffice).

Bug#322943: ITP: easyh10 -- generates databases for the iRiver H10 music player

2005-08-18 Thread Peter Samuelson

[astronut]
 Owner: astronut [EMAIL PROTECTED]

In general we encourage package maintainers to have real names.

  *  *  *

So, for future reference, here's a case study in why you can't just
copy the description verbatim from the website:

EasyH10 is an open source project to develop a multi-platform software

Everything in Debian is an open source project to develop *something*.
So there's no need to mention that.

for iriver H10 digital audio player. It enables us to transfer music and
playlist files manually (e.g., drag-and-drop, copy command, rsync, etc.)
to a player and to prepare the player without iriver plus or Windows
 Media Player 10.

The us pronoun looks quite out of place. And we can already safely
assume it doesn't need iriver plus or Windows Media Player 10 -
otherwise your software would be in 'contrib', or perhaps not available
for Debian at all.

EasyH10 works fine with Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP (GUI
version), Windows 2000/XP (CUI version), and POSIX-like platforms (CUI
version) such as Linux and MacOS X.

Nobody cares that you support Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP, Linux, and OS X.
We already assume that your package works on Debian.

Something like this would be sufficient:

Description: Utility to manage the iRiver H10 music player
easyh10 is a command-line utility to generate a media database and
playlist for an iRiver H10 digital audio player. Transferring the
actual music files must be done manually.

Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I don't care to devote much time to handling this package. It's not in
a terrible state and doesn't require a whole lot of attention, but there
are some annoying bugs that should be looked at.

Upstream development has recently picked up again, which is nice, as it
was completely dead and neglected for a while.

A knowledge of libwings is not required in order to understand the
source for this package, but it would certainly be helpful and you
should have at least some interest in learning it if you take over this
package.

Bug#310665: ITP: cl-rfc2388 -- an implementation of RFC 2388 in Common Lisp

Hello Adrian!

I'm sorry, but I didn't receive your mail, so I saw your post only
now.

BTW, the CVS source already contains a debian/ folder, as the author
accepted to let rfc2388 become a Debian native package :-)

Please don't package it as a native Debian package.

That was the conclusion we (Janis, cl-rfc2388's author, Peter and me)
arrived after having discussed in the last months. And that was also
the conclusion the cl-debian mailing-list arrived, please see posts
[1] and [2].

So, while the cl-rfc2388's CVS (and, unfortunately, version 1.0)
contains a debian/ folder, I'm going to ask Janis to delete it.

An then I'll finish packaging cl-rfc2388, so it could finally enter
Debian official.

This avoids several problems like e.g. an NMU uploading a new
upstream version having a higher version number than the maintainer
 upload of this version.

Those were exactly what we had fear of ;-)

Thx, bye,
Gismo / Luca

PS, Peter, sorry for the double mail, but I wasn't sure the BTS
will forward my mail to the bug submitter.

The program requested (snortconf) only applies to Snort 1.9.0 and
is dead upstream (no new release since 2002). I'm closing this bug
as packaging this will not serve any use (Snort is currently at
version 2.3.0 in Debian)

Description : Rule Set Based Access Control for the linux kernel.

RSBAC contains a kernel patch and a set of utilities for configuring
the security settings. The system implements many access control models
(ACL lists, MAC, RC etc) and it is a system for implementing new
access control models (as kernel modules) that can cooperate with other
RSBAC access control models.
RSBAC also implements a superset of FreeBSDs jail syscall.

There are RSBAC packages available in the Debian sid archive. These
packages, however, do not work at the moment due to changes in the
kernel source. Help is needed to fix the RC bugs in them but this=20
RFP is no longer needed and should have been closed a long time ago.

much kernellab wouldn't even be needed.

I'm perfectly happy with kernellab being removed from debian.

Do you think enough time has passed for kernellab to be removed, or should
we wait a bit more? (This is just a ping, I'm content to leave it as-is.)

Bug#285267: RFA: libpam-heimdal -- PAM module for Heimdal Kerberos 5

2005-08-18 Thread Matthijs Mohlmann
I'm going to throw in my $0.02 as well, and suggest that this module be
dropped from the archive, and libpam-krb5 made to provide
 libpam-heimdal.

The libpam-krb5 modules doesn't work together with the heimdal-kdc or
reverse. I tested this but somehow it isn't possible.

Aug 18 17:55:21 monster login[13203]: (pam_unix) authentication failure;

And when I use libpam-heimdal everything works ok.

I intend to take this package, I'll retitle it to ITA.

what's the current state of this packaging effort? I'd like to have it in

Yeah, I apologize, that was rather caustic. You are right. The one thing

I don't have time to sponsor another NM/package, and I haven't kept up

working package availabe.

Go for it. I've attached the diff I had, though I think with CDBS,
one can now unpack zip files. You wouldn't have to repack the
original software, and people could compare it's MD5 sum against the
one found on berlios' site.

Bug#323855: ITP: opencvs -- OpenBSD CVS implementation with special emphasis in security

2005-08-18 Thread Luciano Bello
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Luciano Bello [EMAIL PROTECTED]

* Package name: opencvs
Version : unknown, posible release: 1st Sep
Upstream Author : Jean-François Brousseau [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL : http://www.opencvs.org/
* License : BSD
Description : OpenBSD CVS implementation with special emphasis in security

OpenCVS is a FREE implementation of the Concurrent Versions System, the
most popular open source revision control software. It can be used as
both client and server for repositories and provides granular access
control over data stored in the repository. It aims to be as compatible
as possible with other CVS implementations, except when particular
features reduce the overall security of the system.

The OpenCVS project was started after discussions regarding the latest
GNU CVS vulnerabilities that came out. Although CVS is widely used, its
development has been mostly stagnant in the last years and many security
issues have popped up, both in the implementation and in the mechanisms.

OpenCVS is primarily developed by Jean-François Brousseau as part of the
OpenBSD Project. The software is freely usable and re-usable by everyone
under a BSD license.

This little known secret has been kept quiet for years.  The opportunity exists

Don't misunderstand me, I like video games. I like the palmtop Nintendo I got
for my birthday and the Zelda game I got for Christmas. Because I only own two
games and I have many hobbies and interests, Nintendo gets a mere fraction of
my time. But like any stimulant, some people are bound to become addicted.
Especially those with addictive personalities. Like my boyfriend and the online
role playing game World of Warcraft, similar to the infamous EverQuest. He
plays for hours. Not two or three, but ten or twelve sometimes taking breaks
only when he's at risk of soiling his seat. While I prefer Warcraft over
alcohol as my sweetie's main vice, I can't help feeling like I've still lost
him to an addiction. Most current harm reduction models in drug and alcohol
counselling suggest that instead of removing the behaviour in question, try
doing it less. And to determine the severity or actual existence of an
addiction, assess whether or not it affects the person's ability to work,
socialize, eat, exercise, pay bills - basically their capacity to perform the
daily activities that qualify as necessary. Call it a gut feeling, but I think
that an addition is still present and harmful even if it hasn't destroyed one
or more lives yet. 3

Bug#322874: ITP: wlassistant -- Allows you to connect to wireless networks

2005-08-18 Thread Stan Vasilyev
Here is the updated description.

wlassistant - User friendly KDE frontend for wireless network connection

Wireless Assistant is a full-featured KDE application with an intuitive
interface. It scans for wireless access points and displays link quality,
encryption and other useful information. When user wants to connect to a
network, Wireless Assistant opens up its wizards and guides the user through
Wi-Fi settings. After a successful connection is made the settings are
remembered so next time the user won't have to enter them again.

Hmmm, this description is a little bit weak. There are several
programs which *enable* (better than *allow*) me to connect to WLAN.
I would start with

Description: KDE frontend for wireless network connection

and find a more descriptive long description.

Kind regards

Breaking news at the lat minute always get aggravating, your ready to go home
and then Wham, you get hit somewhere breaking news and at the late hour it is
never a good story. You find your self getting a little mad, and mumbling to
yourself, I was about to go home, why is it always so late. Then as you get the
details, you realize that at least you alive, you don;t have a bullet hole in
you or a child missing. I always end up feeling like a vulture waiting to feast
on the anguish of others, but this is my job and everyone out there wants the
news rather it be good or bad and if I am telling it then at least I can
control some of what is seen on the airI have a few Do's and Dont's about
what I will shoot. I will shoot what I need to convey the story, I won't shoot
blood, guts or the grieving family that does nothing for the story, I also won't
go try to interview them, if the family wants to talk they will come to you,
that I can guarantee. I also Won;t use a person just standing around to get a
sot from (Sound on Tape) Most times they are just wanting to be on TV. I am
just glad my bosses feel the same way. 3

Bug#323855: ITP: opencvs -- OpenBSD CVS implementation with special emphasis in security

Description : OpenBSD CVS implementation with special emphasis in
 security

OpenCVS is a FREE implementation of the Concurrent Versions System, the
most popular open source revision control software. It can be used as
both client and server for repositories and provides granular access
control over data stored in the repository. It aims to be as compatible
as possible with other CVS implementations, except when particular
features reduce the overall security of the system.

The OpenCVS project was started after discussions regarding the latest
GNU CVS vulnerabilities that came out. Although CVS is widely used, its
development has been mostly stagnant in the last years and many security
issues have popped up, both in the implementation and in the mechanisms.

There is a good reason that CVS development has stagnated. CVS is
broken and there are better alternatives. Please look into those.

And among the most horrible ones.

Agreed. Why anyone would bother to reimplement an already existing free

I oppose to this ITP for the single reason that CVS should be faded
out and its users starved and deprived and forced towards SVN and
 bazaar! Har har har!

Not only that, but the stated purpose of OpenCVS, AIUI, is to be a
reimplementation of CVS under the BSD license. It makes no sense to try
and have both in Debian. I also agree with you that there are far
better alternatives.

The doc at the ER did one test and decided to admit me. Now I don;t really mind

In September 2003, I went to Scotland to visit relatives and they warned me
about wind and cold. I'd already heard about harsh highland weather, but I
didn't let it phase me. I didn't even bring a proper jacket and didn't suffer
(except this one day that was particularly windy and we were on foot to and
from the local pub). But their idea of cold brings me back to the stereotype of
Canadian winter weather. Specifically, the knowledge that sadly,
generalizations are often correct.3

Bug#320075: falconseye developments

2005-08-18 Thread Paul Wise
Hi,

Some info I found out while looking for the upstream status of
falconseye:

There is an unofficial version 1.9.4a here (by Jeroen Demeyer), which is
in fedora atm:
http://cage.rug.ac.be/~jdemeyer/nethack/

There is a fork of Falcon's Eye here:
http://www.darkarts.co.za/projects/vultures/
It is split into two packages, Vulture's Eye and Vulture's Claw, the
first based on nethack and the second on slashem. Fedora will be
switching to this soonish.

I suggest that a similar transition to the tuxracer - planetpenguin be
done if someone feels like taking this up (if I feel motivated enough
and get time, I will do this myself). Perhaps initially 1.9.4a could be
uploaded, as well as turning off sounds, music (since these are quite
broken) and global game scores in /var (since the binary is not setgid
games, resulting in annoying brokenness for new users not in the games
group).

In my final year of undergraduate classes at UVic I had a theory. It should
have been written as a psychology paper, but since I was in a creative
non-fiction course, it was a writing prof that told me I wasn't functioning
with all cylinders. I wrote a paper about baby dreams interviewing women
between the ages of 18 and 24 and quoting excerpts from their accounts.3

Due to mounting concern on the part of friends and the media, in December 2004
I switched my birth control from the Depo Provera shot to the Ortho Evra patch.
While I was initially concerned that I might have been adversely affected by
over 8 years of the shot depleting my calcium and estrogen, I found a more
immediate concern when a week after starting the patch the doctor who gave my
yearly exam found a lump. A cyst. She said it was likely caused by the influx
of estrogen from the patch. But I had to come back for a follow up around
Valentines Day. Fine, I'd rather get it dealt with than stew over what caused
it. The doctor I saw last night (different every time at a public health
clinic) didn't seem to understand why I was there. I told him what happened in
December and that I was told to come back. He finally found the report in my
file. Apparently there were actually two lumps but only one had been blacked
out on the crude diagram of my breasts. When he felt around not only did he
find another lump in my left breast, but he told me cysts were normal. In fact,
he said the lump I had been searching for on the armpit side of my right breast
was probably just fibrous tissue. 3
