Bug#327081: ITP: rpmstrap -- bootstrap a basic RPM-based system

It is inspired by debootstrap, and allows you to build chroots and basic systems from RPM sources. Looking at the source it seems more based on than inspired by, particular to rpmstrap itself, though the functions and scripts/* files sure seem more derivative than just coincidently similar. If so, it's in violation of debootstrap's license (by not including debootstrap's copyright text), and it seems fairly rude to relicense it from debootstrap's BSD-ish license to GPLv2+, not to mention expunging my name and copyright notice from the source, and for that matter all references to debootstrap. Removing the copyright's a license violation, and presumably renders the program undistributable and unpackagable, afaics. At least Bastian Blank's cdebootstrap was written from scratch to justify its different license and lack of recognition. Colour me unimpressed. Cheers, aj signature.asc Description: Digital signature
Bug#326779: fixed in wmfire 1.2.1-6
Hello! Date: Wed, 7 Sep 2005 01:23:45 -0400 wmfire (1.2.1-6) unstable; urgency=low . * New maintainer. (Closes: #326779) * Previous NMU was succesfully performed. (Closes: #326575) As mentioned in #326575, wmfire was urgently fixed because it's part of the GNOME 2.10 transition. This new upload is a bit disruptive, in the sense that would further delay GNOME 2.10 from entering testing, so wmfire will be temporarily removed from testing to prevent that. You need not take any action. Your package will eventually migrate to testing, right after GNOME 2.10 makes it in. In the future, please try to find out if your package is part of some transition, in order not to interfere with it. The Release Team is also aware this information is not very easily accessible, and will think of ways of improving the situation. Bug#320387: ITP: pyicq-t -- ICQ Transport for Jabber, implemented with Python and Twisted
Hello. Althouth package requires some more work (such as addition of a debconf script), it is already useful. It allows to set up an ICQ transport for jabber server (other than jabberd1) without manual compilation of anything. Maybe somebody will sponsor the upload? I am interested in sponsoring this package. I use pyicq-t with ejabberd. I have fixed all lintian and linda warnings for the package (except warning about .svn dirs in the source package, which probably should not be fixed because it's better to make .orig.tar.gz identical to upstream tarball). pyicq-t 0.6-2 package is at http://zigzag.lvk.cs.msu.su/~nikita/pyicq-t/ If you agree to upload it, please use '-sa -v0' options of dpkg-buildpackage to ensure that .orig.tar.gz is included into the upload, and that complete changelog is present. Well, quite strange, I guess :-) I say only lack of time :-( But I hope to see official packages soon :-) Jonathan Riddell asked me at aKademy 2005 if he can include the package in Kubuntu. Bug#107808: Removing diskless?
Hi, I think it's time to remove diskless. I know we usually don't remove packages marked as being adopted, but this one looks hopeless: * It's been orphaned for two years [1], and up for adoption for two years before that [2]. * Eric Sharkey [EMAIL PROTECTED], the prospective maintainer, hasn't replied to my last ping; according to db.d.o, he was last seen in May. He set up a project on Alioth [3], but there's been no activity since 2004-09-02. * There are 2 important, 15 normal, 2 minor, and 9 wishlist bugs. * popcon lists 63 installations/12 votes. * lessdisks seems to provide similar functionality. * It's a Debian-native package. Eric, please let us know if you want to keep diskless in the archive. Note that you can always resurrect it through the NEW queue (which is pretty fast these days). Jonas, as the maintainer of lessdisks, do you think it can serve as an adequate replacement? Bug#326779: fixed in wmfire 1.2.1-6
In the future, please try to find out if your package is part of some transition, in order not to interfere with it. The Release Team is also aware this information is not very easily accessible, and will think of ways of improving the situation. First of all, I apologize for complicating this matter with my upload. I will be more careful to check for this before uploading newly adopted packages. I am sure that this idea has been discussed before, but it seems to me that it would be fairly straightforward to implement a mechanism whereby all packages involved in transitions could be explicitely marked as frozen in unstable, preventing new uploads from succeeding before the transition was complete. I absolutely agree that a certain amount of diligence should be required from all developers, but it also seems that technical solutions should also be put in place insasmuch as possible. (Maybe I simply under-estimate the difficulty of this proposition, being entirely unfamiliar with the current infrastructure.) cheers, Charles -- Here's something That could Even soak The whiskers off A radio joke Burma-Shave http://burma-shave.org/jingles/1938/heres_something signature.asc Description: Digital signature

* Eric Sharkey [EMAIL PROTECTED], the prospective maintainer, hasn't replied to my last ping; according to db.d.o, he was last seen in May. Sorry for the delay. Real life getting the better of me. Diskless has turned out to be a little too much for me to handle. Perl is probably my weakest language. Had it been done in sh or python I'd probably have had a release out by now. In order for me to effectively maintain it, I'd have to basically rewrite it from scratch and I don't really have the time, nor do there seem to be enough users who care about it to make it worthwhile. Some machines have BIOSes that are either extremely slow to reboot, or that cannot reliably perform a reboot. In which case kexec may be the only alternative to reboot in a reliable and timely manner. Kernel 2.6.13 will contain the kexec()-syscall.
