Paragui should be updated to a newer version. As I can see paragui
can't be adopted by the Debian Games Team since is now under the
control of Debian SDL packages maintainers.

Until somebody does the update I should say that the Debian Games Team
would like to package it, so these should wait ;-)

Bug#208692: Uploading

2006-07-05 Thread Miriam Ruiz
I'm not a DD yet either, but I guess you should try to find an sponsor for the
package. Maybe searching for one in debian-mentors list would do.

I think I could find an sponsor for it, but it would be quite wierd posting an
email searching for an sponsor for another maintainer, haver you tried to find
one? Do you have problems with it?

I had made my own package with 4.1 and was about to file an ITP before finding
yours, I don't think there would be technical problems with the package.

* Package name: iaxmodem
  Version : 0.0.13
  Upstream Author : Lee Howard [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL : http://iaxmodem.sf.net
* License : GPL
  Description : software modem with IAX2 connectivity

 IAXmodem is a software modem written in C that uses an IAX channel (commonly
 provided by an Asterisk PBX system) instead of a traditional phone line and
 uses a DSP library instead of DSP hardware chipsets.
 .
 IAXmodem was originally conceived to function as a fax modem usable with
 HylaFAX, and it does that well. However IAXmodem also has been known to
 function with mgetty+sendfax and efax.

Note that iaxmodem includes modified versions of libiax2 and spandsp, both
libraries being GPL-licensed and statically linked into the iaxmodem binary.

The packaged version of the libraries cannot be used, either because they're
not current enough (as in CVS HEAD 2 hours ago) or because of the
modifications applied for iaxmodem.

I am currently finishing up the packaging and feeding my patches to make
iaxmodem a daemon upstream.

Bug#376825: ITP: haskell-newcgi -- Enhanced CGI library for Haskell

2006-07-05 Thread John Goerzen
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: John Goerzen [EMAIL PROTECTED]

  Version : 2006.6.5
  Upstream Author : Bjorn Bringert et al
* URL : http://www.cs.chalmers.se/~bringert/darcs/haskell-cgi/doc/
* License : BSD
  Programming Lang: Haskell
  Description : Enhanced CGI library for Haskell
 This is a Haskell library for writing CGI web applications.
 It provides a number of features not found in the CGI implementation
 in the standard Haskell libraries.
 .
 This library supports setting arbitrary response headers, support for
 cookies, efficient file upload support, integration with
 Data.ByteString, and other useful features.
 .
 It also provides wrapper functions for compatibility with the
 existing Network.CGI module.

Bug#376829: ITP: haskell-bytestring -- Extremely fast Haskell I/O library using packed strings

2006-07-05 Thread John Goerzen
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: John Goerzen [EMAIL PROTECTED]

* Package name: haskell-bytestring
  Version : 0.6
  Upstream Author : Don Stewart
* URL : http://www.cse.unsw.edu.au/~dons/fps.html
* License : BSD
  Programming Lang: Haskell
  Description : Extremely fast Haskell I/O library using packed strings
 Data.ByteString (formerly FastPackedString/FPS) provides packed
 strings (byte arrays held by a ForeignPtr), along with a list
 interface to these strings. It lets you do extremely fast IO in
 Haskell; in some cases, even faster than typical C implementations,
 and much faster than [Char]. It uses a flexible foreign pointer
 representation, allowing the transparent use of Haskell or C code to
 manipulate the strings.
 .
 Data.ByteString is written in Haskell98 + the foreign function
 interface and cpp. It has been tested succesfully with GHC 6.4 and
 6.5, and hugs March 2005.

Bug#376830: ITP: haxml -- XML framework for Haskell

2006-07-05 Thread John Goerzen
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: John Goerzen [EMAIL PROTECTED]

* Package name: haxml
  Version : 1.13.1
  Upstream Author : Malcolm Wallace et al
* URL : http://www.cs.york.ac.uk/fp/HaXml/
* License : Library LGPL plus relaxation, tools GPL
  Programming Lang: Haskell
  Description : XML framework for Haskell
 HaXml is a collection of utilities for parsing, filtering,
 transforming, and generating XML documents using Haskell. Its basic
 facilities include a parser for XML, a separate error-correcting
 parser for HTML, an XML validator, and pretty-printers for XML and
 HTML.
 .
 In addition to this, Haskell2Xml is a replacement class for Haskell's
 Show/Read classes. It allows you to read and write ordinary Haskell
 data as XML documents. DtdToHaskell is a tool for translating any
 valid XML DTD into equivalent Haskell types. Xtract is a grep-like
 tool for XML documents, based loosely on the XPath and XQL query
 languages. It can be used either from the command line, or within
 your own code as part of the library.

  Description : a library for retrieving facts from operating systems

 A cross-platform Ruby library for retrieving facts from operating systems.
 Supports multiple resolution mechanisms, any of which can be restricted to
 working only on certain operating systems or environments. Facter is
 especially useful for retrieving things like operating system names, IP
 addresses, MAC addresses, and SSH keys.
 .
 It is easy to extend Facter to include your own custom facts or to include
 additional mechanisms for retrieving facts.

puppet (#348625) depends on facter.

* Package name: cgal

  Upstream Author : CGAL Developers [EMAIL PROTECTED]

  Description : C++ library for computational geometry

 CGAL (Computational Geometry Algorithms Library) makes the most important
 of the solutions and methods developed in computational geometry available
 to users in industry and academia in a C++ library. The goal is to provide
 easy access to useful, reliable geometric algorithms.
 .
 The CGAL library contains:
 - the Kernel with geometric primitives such as points, vectors, lines,
   predicates for testing things such as relative positions of points, and
   operations such as intersections and distance calculation.
 - the Basic Library which is a collection of standard data structures and
   geometric algorithms, such as convex hull in 2D/3D, (Delaunay)
   triangulation in 2D/3D, planar map, polyhedron, smallest enclosing circle,
   and multidimensional query structures.
 - the Support Library which offers interfaces to other packages, e.g., for
   visualisation, and I/O, and other support facilities.
 .
 Homepage: http://www.cgal.org/

License:
The library consists of three modules. The lower layers (Kernel and the
Support library) are licensed under LGPL, the upper layer (Basic Library) is
licensed under QPL. Code under LGPL and code under QPL is combined in one
library.

I've CC'ed debian-legal and I would like to know whether both licenses are
compatible.

Regards,
  Joachim

Description : GNU gettext library is one of best localization libraries
 (if not the best). Unfortunately, in order to use it with most widespread
 (and ugly) language of PHP, the system has to support desired locale,
 and library itself must be installed.

 Since this is rarely the case, PHP-gettext is developed to be able to
 read gettext MO files directly, without requiring anything other than
 PHP.

 Currently, it's usable if you develop most of the infrastructure
 for choosing language on your own, because it's possible to use
 both gettext() and ngettext() calls. In the near future,
 it should also be fully compatible drop-in replacement
 for all of gettext functionality written in PHP.

  Description : simple puzzle game involving untangling planar graphs

gPlanarity is a simple puzzle game involving untangling planar graphs
for fun and prizes. If you tend to get addicted to cute little math
puzzles, this one is a doozy.

gPlanarity is a super-clone of the flash Planarity game written by John
Tantalo. The original Planarity ran well in IE and Firefox on other
platforms, but was slow and liked to lock up or abort under Linux
browsers.

gPlanarity implements gameplay identical to the original Planarity but
adds some UI and game extras around the basic game such as multiple
board generation algorithms, puzzle boards, complete backing state,
group select/drag and so on.

  Description: library to access the synaptics touch pad driver

 libsynaptics is a library to access the synaptics touch pad nearly independent
 of the used driver version. It is intended to support all upcoming driver
 versions of the Xorg Synaptics Touch Pad Driver. Programs that want to access
 the touch pad should make use of this library and will thereby not interfere
 with each other. Available parameters can be read and written and the version
 of the installed driver can be determined.

  Description : Security image (captcha) generator

 The (so called) Security Images are so popular. Most internet
 software use these in their registration screens to block robot programs
 (which may register tons of fake member accounts). Security images are
 basicaly, graphical CAPTCHAs (Completely Automated Public
 Turing Test to Tell Computers and Humans Apart). This
 module gives you a basic interface to create such an image. The final
 output is the actual graphic data, the mime type of the graphic and the
 created random string. The module also has some styles that are
 used to create the background (or foreground) of the image.
 .
 If you are an Authen::Captcha user, see GD::SecurityImage::AC
 for migration from Authen::Captcha to GD::SecurityImage.
 .
 GD::SecurityImage is just an image generator. Not a captcha handler.
 The validation of the generated graphic is left to your programming
 taste.

Bug#376588: ITP: cryptomount -- a utility for accessing encrypted filesystems

2006-07-05 Thread Jonas Meurer
On 03/07/2006 Baruch Even wrote:
 * Package name: cryptomount
   Version : 1.0.1
   Upstream Author : rwpenney«AT»users«DOT»sourceforge«DOT»net
 * URL : http://cryptmount.sourceforge.net/
 * License : GPLv2 or later
   Programming Lang: C
   Description : a utility for accessing encrypted filesystems

 cryptomount enables the user to simply create and mount an encrypted
 device based on dm-crypt. It can handle either a raw device or a loop
 mounted file as the base for dm-crypt.

 It offers the following advantage:

 * access to improved functionality in the kernel
 * transparent support for filesystems stored on either raw disk
   partitions or loopback files
 * separate encryption of filesystem access keys, allowing access
   passwords to be changed without re-encrypting the entire
   filesystem
 * storing multiple encrypted filesystems within a single disk
   partition, using a designated subset of blocks for each
 * rarely used filesystems do not need to be mounted at system
   startup
 * un-mounting of each filesystem is locked so that this can only be
   performed by the user that mounted it, or the superuser
 * encrypted filesystems compatible with cryptsetup
 * encrypted access-keys are compatible with openssl

hello Baruch,

i like the idea of cryptomount, as it seems to have advantages over
cryptsetup. for example cryptsetup does not support to store multiple
filesystems on one disk out of the box.

nevertheless most of cryptmount seems like a reinvention of cryptsetup,
or cryptdisks.

do you know the cryptsetup package from debian? we have a rather complex
initscript called cryptdisks there, which implements lots of additional
features for encrypted disks.
additional, cryptsetup has support for LUKS devices, which cryptomount
doesn't have.

maybe you're interested in joining the maintainer group:
Debian Cryptsetup Team [EMAIL PROTECTED]

we could maintain cryptomount as an additional package or discuss the
possibility to merge the advantages into cryptsetup/cryptdisks.

David Härdeman currently tries to reimplement cryptdisks (the
initscript) as a standalone wrapper for cryptsetup, written in c.
the idea is to implement a system similar to mount, with a /etc/crypttab
and similar syntax.

maybe we can join our efforts to develop a good implementation for
encrypted harddisks in debian :-)

greetings
 jonas

In the past, I have also asked at some other places and created a special

 I think I could find an sponsor for it, but it would be quite wierd posting an

 one? Do you have problems with it?

Yesterday, Aníbal Monsalve Salazar (thanks Aníbal) has send
picprog_1.8.1-2.dsc to his pbuilder mail interface. And this has showed that
picprog doesn't compile with g++-4.1. So, let's first concentrate on this
g++-4.1 problem.

 I had made my own package with 4.1

Do you mean that you have compiled picprog with g++-4.1?

I get this error with g++-4.1:

 CurlFtpFS is a tool to mount FTP hosts as local directories. It connects

  * automatic reconnection if the server times out
  * conversion of absolute symlinks to point back into the FTP filesystem

It's linked with OpenSSL without having the additional GPL/OpenSSL

Otherwise have fun convincing FTP masters to accept it...

I'm answering myself because I didn't receive any response

 I currently do not have enough time to become a Debian Developer, and
 I'm not sure that I'm maintaining enough packages (2 currently) to
 become one. So, do not hesitate to take the biloba package in charge.

  Well, I understand you don't have time, but if you already maintain
2 packages in the archive this is enough for becoming, so don't let the

  In other news, I'm taking care of the ITP bug now so I'll be uploading

PyQt4 is the successor of PyQt3 and exposes the Qt4 GUI library
to Python via a Python extension library. As PyQt3, it is created
using sip.
PyQt4 contains:
 * all libraries from Qt4 (QtCore, QtGui, QtOpenGl, QtXml, QtSvg etc.)
 * a user interface compiler similar to Qt4's uic

A first release of PyQt4 is expected in the next two months.
Until that, Debian packages of the snapshots are already available
at http://diotavelli.net/files/deb.

Well, to answer my own question, I see that puppet is currently waiting
NEW processing as it was uploaded about 2 weeks ago. This is great news,

Description : python module for producing postscript graphics

From the web page:

 PyScript is a python module for producing high quality postscript
graphics. Rather than use a GUI to draw a picture, the picture is
programmed using python and the PyScript objects.

Some of the key features are:

 * All scripting is done in python, which is a high level, easy to
   learn, well-developed scripting language.
 * All the objects can be translated, scaled, rotated, ... in fact
   any affine transformation.
 * Plain text is automatically kerned.
 * You can place arbitrary LaTeX expressions on your figures.
 * You can create your own figure objects, and develop a library of
   figure primitives.
 * Output is publication quality.

Bug#208692: picprog doesn't compile with g++-4.1

2006-07-05 Thread Jan Wagemakers
Jan Wagemakers [EMAIL PROTECTED] schreef:

 To compile, just remove the picport:: part in front of that
 set_clock_data definition in picport.h.
 I have tried that, but when I type make I get a lot of error-messages:

Ok, I have just tried it again, and it works now :-)

I don't know why, maybe it is the hot weather here ;-) , or because I have
done an apt-get upgrade.

Anyway, I'll create a new debian-package this weekend.

Bug#368542: holdup

2006-07-05 Thread Charles Fry
This package is currently being held up by the hep.aida package which is
included with the source code. The source files don't contain any
licensing information, and the colt package documentation claims an LGPL
with a military prohibition (non-free). However an analysis of the
upstream CVS repository:

   http://aida.freehep.org/source_code.thtml

reveals that the first CVS version of hep.aida that included licensing
information at the top of each source file was created on 2002/10/04.
The version included in colt is from 2000/03/23, and is not even in the
CVS repository.

I am currently exploring options for dealing with this with the upstream
author. However as active mainenance ceased years ago, it may be
necessary to manually update the package to work with the 2002/10/04
release of hep.aida. I have not yet evaluated the complexity of such a
task.

Charles

Bug#352155: xephyr status

2006-07-05 Thread Matt Taggart
I noticed the ITP for xephyr at

 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=352155

I was looking at multiseat stuff and some older howtos mentioned using xephyr
to help with this. But it also seemed that maybe xorg could handle multi-seat
itself. Is xephyr still useful and what sort of things would you use it for?

Are you still working on this ITP?

Thanks,

Bug#376431: Is the Sybase Open Watcom License ok?

2006-07-05 Thread Adam Borowski

  any Contributor.

 This copyright licence attempts to enforce all Sybase's and
 Contributors' patents, whether applicable or not. All patents.
 Not just software ones.

Hmm, it doesn't appear to say even a word about _Sybase's_ patents at
all. It speaks about Your (ie, the user/distributor's) patents.

So, let's say an organization/company which owns one of Debian's
mirrors, a mirror which carries non-free like most mirrors do, owns a
patent. Not a software patent -- a patent for a mousetrap or a drug.
Now, let's say that EvilCorp wants to do some patent trolling. They
buy out any of openwatcom's contributors -- it's a big patent with
hundreds or thousands of contributors, many of them corporate. In
fact, often you can't tell who owns CorpA without a longer research;
it can be owned by CorpB and then by CorpC and finally by EvilCorp.
Now, EvilCorp starts a litigation against the university/company
which provides our mirror. The defender for all practical reasons
just lost all his patents.

Sure, software patents are evil, but we're talking about patents of
_any_ kind here. And even though non-software patents are often
controversial as well, Debian can't make dropping any patents owned
by one of mirror operators as simple as buying out a legal entity
which by a long chain of ownership owns the copyright to a 10-line
patch buried deep inside openwatcom.

The license isn't good enough even for non-free, I would say.

Bug#354490: RFP: multiseat

2006-07-05 Thread Matt Taggart
Daniel,

I noticed your comments in #354490 about multiseat maybe not quite being ready
for primetime (back in May).

Has the situation changed at all?
What are the things you think needs to happen before this could be
packaged/integrated with Debian to support multiseat easily?
It would be nice to be able to support this in etch.

Thanks,

Bug#310920: Forgot to add...

2006-07-05 Thread Arjan Oosting
Hi John,

I have prepared a new revision based on upstream version 0.13.1. It took
a little bit longer because I have dropped CDBS and had to test my new
just debhelper rules file. The package again provides libhugs-haxml
(and diverts all the files of the old 0.12 HaXml version hugs ships)

I think it is ready for upload, hope it will be processed soon.

The source is available by doing

dget http://moonshine.dnsalias.org/debian/unstable/haxml_1.13.1-1_i386.changes

Thanks for your offer to sponsor me, I hope you don't find any packaging
bugs so it can finally be uploaded.

Greetings Arjan

You have a bashism -- the Hugs package contains this directory:

drwxr-xr-x root/root 0 2006-07-05 21:29
./usr/lib/hugs/packages/HaXml/Text/XML/HaXml/{Html,Xtract,DtdToHaskell}/

That occurs in the upstream Makefile actually (naughty, naughty). You
can fix that by either patching the Makefile or manually setting
SHELL=/bin/bash (that's probably preferable).

I did, however, go ahead and upload the package as-is, to at least get
it to start working its way through NEW. Please let me know when you
have a -2 ready with a fix for that, and I'll upload it as well.

Nice work, BTW.

Bug#376993: ITP: tcpser -- emulate a Hayes compatible modem

2006-07-05 Thread Peter Collingbourne
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Peter Collingbourne [EMAIL PROTECTED]

* Package name: tcpser
  Version : 1.0rc10
  Upstream Author : Jim Brain [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL : http://www.jbrain.com/pub/linux/serial
* License : GPL
  Programming Lang: C
  Description : emulate a Hayes compatible modem

 TCPSER turns a PC serial port into an emulated Hayes compatible modem that
 uses TCP/IP for incoming and outgoing connections. It can be used to allow
 older applications and systems designed for modem use to operate on the
 Internet. TCPSER supports all standard Hayes commands, and understands
 extended and vendor proprietary commands (though it does not implement
 many of them). TCPSER can be used for both inbound and outbound
 connections.
