Bug#416033: O: doc-html-w3 -- Recommendations of the W3

2007-03-24 Thread Francesco Paolo Lovergine

This package pulls in all w3-recs* packages. Recommendations are
divided on a per-year base, in order to minimize downloading time.

W3 forum issues many recommendations every year, but this packaging
style has been started in 2002, so there is a single giant-package
for all RECs up to year 2001 (which is named w3-recs) and all other ones
are collected in one package per year.

Description: Enhanced replacement for the write command
Nwrite is a replacement for the standard write program that lets you
write directly to the terminal of another logged-in user without the
overhead of talk taking over the full screen or the other user having
 to respond first.
 .
Nwrite's advantages over traditional write include the ability to send
the same message simultaneously to multiple users, and a
receiver-configurable message format, including a tag at the start of
each line that identifies the sender.

I'm setting back 'remstats' to O: status because I have just stopped using
 it and no longer interested.

Actually, remstats was previously marked as RFA, a request for adoption.
Robert, would you like to fully orphan it, i.e. let the QA Group take over
day-to-day maintenance?

Thanks,

Matej

It was my fault, sorry!

I've changed to ITA but no longer interested on this package so changed to O

I'm setting owner back to Robert so he can decide what to do with it, ok?

Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I request an adopter for the libspf2 package. I've lost interest in this
package and nothing in Debian uses it apparently. If you'd like to see
it survive, please take it.

The package description is:
libspf2 implements the Sender Policy Framework, a part of the SPF/SRS
protocol pair. libspf2 is a library which allows email systems such
as Sendmail, Postfix, Exim, Zmailer and MS Exchange to check SPF
records and make sure that the email is authorized by the domain name
that it is coming from. This prevents email forgery, commonly used by
 spammers, scammers and email viruses/worms.

Description : PAM module to blacklist hosts/users with many login failures

This PAM module automatically adds hosts and/or users with many
authentication failures in pre-defined time intervals to a temporary
blacklist. While blacklisted, any authentication attempt will
silently
fail, pretending the given authentication credentions are wrong.
After
the pre-defined blacklist interval, the host/user will be unbanned
again.

Thus, this module provides effective protection against the
password
guessing attacks agaings ssh servers seen lastly in the
internet.

Description : Convert IRC chat logs into valid HTML with valid CSS

Yet another converter from IRC log files to HTML, but this one produces valid
xhtml which really annoyed me about the other ones I found. It's not hard to
do and it's essential for accessibility. I also think the colour selection
algorithm is pretty neat too, hashing nicks with overrides possible.
It optionally takes one argument, which is put in the HTML page title. It
reads a common ircII log file from stdin and generates HTML on stdout, so
use pipes or and to redirect them to useful places. Debug information
should come to stderr.

From the website: Retroshare is a cross-platform private p2p sharing
program. It lets you share securely your friends, using a web-of-trust

RetroShare provides filesharing, chat, messages and channels.

It is LGPL licensed, but the sourcecode of the newest version (0.3) is
not yet available. But it looks very promising.

This module is a variation on the lovely Text::Diff module. Rather than
generating traditional line-oriented diffs, however, it generates
word-oriented diffs. This can be useful for tracking changes in
narrative documents or documents with very long lines. To diff source
code, one is still best off using Text::Diff. But if you want to see how
a short story changed from one version to the next, this module will do
 the job very nicely.

I hope you didn't upload to main like the preliminar version at

This also allows the usage of free plugins as well.

Feasibly, ia32-libs' only purpose is to allow the execution of software that
cannot be recompiled natively. By example, that should also be in contrib.

How many free plugins are out there that don't work on amd64 ?

Few, but feasibly someone could choose to use an i386 binary of a GPLed
project with nspluginwrapper. What users choose to do with the software is
not a reflection on the software itself.

The area of what software it could run is dependant on how the user chooses
to use it. As I mentioned, ia32-libs' primary purpose is to run software
that cannot be recompiled for amd64/ia64. However, it can feasibly both run
free and non-free software. But it goes into main.

Never the less, if it's decided that nspluginwrapper should go into contrib,
then into contrib it should go.

No problem. ;)

Just be aware that this is the address of a public e-mail list.

I made an ITP request yesterday via reportbug for the package pdb2pqr
which I'm working on at the moment. reportbug quit successfully, and I
was informed to get an email about my request in about an hour. It's
been about a day now, and at least one ITP request passed, so I'm
 wondering where mine is gone.

Did you properly setup your MTA? reportbug can send the message
if you are able to send messages from the console. You can use reportbug
to generate the text of the message and then use your MUA to sent it, or
you can try the new reportbug-ng that it is a graphical interface that
can talk with lots of MUAs;)

I assume that I made a mistake somewhere, probably. I'd like to know if
you have the possibilities to check if the request was sent at all; I
don't want to re-request to avoid duplicates. If you could tell me about
the status and what I got wrong I'd be glad, so I can avoid it in the
 future.

I didn't found your name on the mails from yesterday and I
didn't find your ITP on the packages being worked on:

http://www.debian.org/devel/wnpp/being_packaged

If I wrote to the wrong people/list, please point me to where I could
get the information I'm looking for!

I think you wrote to the right place.

 Thanks for your help!
 Manuel

Hope this helps, kind regards,

Few, but feasibly someone could choose to use an i386 binary of a GPLed
 project with nspluginwrapper.

How feasable is that? Can you give an example?

Also note that if GPLed plugins that have 64-bit issues, it's more productive
to fix those issues than running them through a wrapper that presumably has
other problems (reportedly, crash conditions). In the context of a pure DFSG
environment, I see a loss in that rather than a gain (in the sense that it
misleads users into addressing the wrong problems).

(of course, without the context of a pure DFSG env this may no longer apply,
but then we're in contrib land already ;-)).

What users choose to do with the software is
not a reflection on the software itself.

We don't consider unfeasible uses of software to stablish main/contrib
separation. Think of the implications: one could argue that flashplugin-nonfree
belongs in main, because you can copy the script to /dev/random to fill your
entropy pool :-)

I don't claim that nspluginwrapper use in a pure DFSG env is unfeasible, but I
haven't seen anything supporting that, and to me it seems unlikely.

The area of what software it could run is dependant on how the user chooses
to use it. As I mentioned, ia32-libs' primary purpose is to run software
that cannot be recompiled for amd64/ia64. However, it can feasibly both run
free and non-free software. But it goes into main.

ia32-libs can be useful if you want to run apache in 32-bit mode because this
gives you higher memory efficiency in a performance-critical environment.

Never the less, if it's decided that nspluginwrapper should go into contrib,
then into contrib it should go.

I suppose that we're deciding that as we speak :-)
