It seems that islsm has been abandoned (last commit was 2006), and since
the module in its present form does not work with Linux >= 2.6.20,
there's no point in packaging it.

Bug#383316: Please vet this modified CC license for uploading FoF music to non-free (was: Re: Could you please forward this proposed license to Teosto?)

2007-05-22 Thread Jason Spiro

On 5/15/07, Matthew Johnson <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:
...

How about:

 http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nd-nc/1.0/legalcode with 4. d.
 added saying:

You may not publicly display, publicly perform, or publicly digitally
perform the Work except as part of the game and you may not
distribute the Work except with the intention of it being used with
   the Game.

 and 1. g.:

"The Game" means the game Frets on Fire or a derivative work of
   Frets on Fire.

Dear debian-legal,

The license is below. Is it good enough for Tommi Inkila's FoF music
to be uploaded to non-free?

== How it was made ==

Tommi mailed me privately, and told me he and his teammates
would prefer that the license allow use of the music in FoF only, not
in derivatives. I tried to convince him why allowing forking is good,
and he understands, but he still prefers to keep it this way for now.
So I think we should try to get the upstream music in Debian as-is for
now instead of bothering upstream more. If someone wants to fork FoF
and use the upstream music, they should take it up with upstream
themselves.

So, I took http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nd-nc/1.0/legalcode
and made some changes. For example, I changed "Creative Commons Legal
Code" to "Restricted Media Legal Code". I didn't use the name "Frets
on Fire" there since I don't want people to think the license applies
to the whole game. It is only for Tommi Inkila's music. As another
example, I removed the trademark-related text. I hereby release the
new license text to the public domain. A diff of the original and new
licenses, and a paste of the new license in its entirety, follow.

And so I ask you, dear debian-legal: Is the new license good enough
for Tommi Inkila's FoF music to be uploaded to non-free? If it's OK,
then we can kindly ask upstream to look over it themselves then send
it to Teosto for approval.

Regards,
Jason

The debian games team packaging policy mandates the usage of
debhelper. Moreover, I'm not too comfortable with cdbs either (but use
it myself for python packages). I therefore decided to stay with
debhelper. If the other team members don't object with the packaging
being cdbs, I don't mind much here as well.

I very welcome this idea, please proceed. If you need an upload to
debian, just tell me, I'll happily sponsor you. I'll also arrange the
new package to be synced over the ubuntu one.

Thanks for your work on the package

Any way is ok to me.

In an ideal world it would be nice to have all quickcam cameras supported by
one driver under Debian, but the merge is looking to be quite difficult. I'll
play with it some more and see if I can make it work, but if not I'll
probably just package the messenger stuff separately.

OK, good luck with it!

Bug#405616: DeSmuME Debian packaging

2007-05-22 Thread Pascal Giard

Hello Reinhard,

On 5/20/07, Reinhard Tartler <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:

Hi there, nice to meet you.

Nice to meet you too ;-)

Oh, I already packaged DesMuMe for the debian Games team. You can find
the package here:

http://svn.debian.org/wsvn/pkg-games/packages/trunk/desmume/?rev=0&sc=0

I actually uploaded it to ubuntu already, but didn't do so for debian
yet. The main reason is that I waited for comments on my packaging and
at least one ack from another member, but didn't get any feedback. I
don't use DesmuME anymore, since my girlfriend bought an DS, and
therefore I play now on real hardware ;)

Anyway, how to proceed from here? May I suggest you look at what is
currently in the debian games team svn and give me feedback about it? If
you are okay with what is there, I'll just upload it to debian with the
Maintainer set to the debian games team. If we do so, may I suggest you
to join the debian games team so you can directly commit to our team's
svn?

Done. I'm now part of the Debian Games Team.
I've looked at your packaging files and would like to keep and improve
your manpage but i'd rather stick with my packaging files for the
rest.

Why? Mostly because cdbs makes the debian/rules smaller and easier to read.

Also, i noticed that your ubuntu package is missing few important files...
Namely, the menu entries but more importantly the glade interface files.

You mentionned that you're not using DeSmuME anymore. With your
permission, i'd take over maintenance of the package. (In practice,
the maintainer would still be the Debian Games Team).

What do you think?

Bug#315297: ITP: fedora-directory-server

2007-05-22 Thread Masato Taruishi

Hi,

Yep, after talking with Sven I started packaging FDS a little while ago
& have a basic package thrown together. An alioth team has been created
which we're both in, and I'll commit what I have, and we'll hopefully
proceed from there.

Is there any update for this? I've worked for this, too and I experimentally
built a debian package of ldapserver by using cdbs.

Thanks

Sure, go ahead. As you're almost certainly a more experienced maintainer than
I am, it's probably best you keep it even if I do manage to make the merge
work (unless you don't want to keep it, in which case I'd be happy to take
it).

In an ideal world it would be nice to have all quickcam cameras supported by
one driver under Debian, but the merge is looking to be quite difficult. I'll
play with it some more and see if I can make it work, but if not I'll
probably just package the messenger stuff separately.

Regards,
David.
