Bug#459320: ITP: buildutils -- Distutils extensions for developing Python libraries and applications
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist Owner: Piotr Ożarowski [EMAIL PROTECTED] * Package name: buildutils Version : 0.3 Upstream Author : Ian Bicking, Ryan Tomayko [EMAIL PROTECTED] * URL : http://buildutils.lesscode.org/ * License : MIT Programming Lang: Python Description : Distutils extensions for developing Python libraries and applications. Python Build Utilities (buildutils) is a set of extension commands to Python's standard distutils that are often useful during development and deployment of python projects. buildutils was created with the desire of removing make and other external build tools from the python development process. . Because buildutils is integrated with distutils, information about a project can be obtained from the project's setup.py and setup.cfg files. This allows commands to provide smart defaults when invoking external tools and utilities. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#459318: ITP: ucspi-tcp -- tcpclient, tcpserver and other TCP easy-use commandline-tools
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist Owner: Jan Mojzis [EMAIL PROTECTED] * Package name: ucspi-tcp Version : 0.88 Upstream Author : Daniel J. Bernstein * URL : http://cr.yp.to/ucspi-tcp.html * License : public domain Programming Lang: C Description : tcpclient, tcpserver and other TCP easy-use commandline-tools Written by Dan J. Bernstein, tcpclient and tcpserver are powerful easy-to-use command-line tools for building TCP client-server applications. tcpserver provides TCP access control features, similar to tcp-wrappers/tcpd's hosts.allow but much faster; it can run high-availability services much better than inetd. . Real-time Blocking List support is also included in tcpserver, so you can run qmail-smtpd with it and avoid a lot of SPAM. . tcpclient and tcpserver conform to UCSPI, the UNIX Client-Server Program Interface, using the TCP protocol. . For now is ucspi-tcp released into the public domain including distributing modified version. While this isn't necesarily always a problem in a straight CPAN-based Perl environment, some operating system distributions only include the pure-Perl versions, don't include the XS version, and so weaken is then missing from the platform, despite passing a dependency on Scalar::Util successfully. . This restores the functionality testing to a dependency you do once in your Makefile.PL, rather than something you have to write extra tests for each time you write a module. . It should also help make the package auto-generators for the various operating systems play more nicely, because it introduces a dependency that they have to have a proper weaken in order to work. If, however, Alex or his previous sponsor (Daniel Ruoso) happen to have a copy of the current state of the package, so I don't have to package it from scratch, it might save me a bit of work (depending on how much time I want to spend on the configuration process, I guess...) Ove, an advance warning: Joomla! wouldn't be supported with security updates in a stable release, since security problems are too frequent. There's also serious concern, whether it's supportable through the life cycles of a full Debian release. I see. So if I make a package, maybe I should just be making it an unofficial package, then. Hmm. Or alternatively maintain it only in volatile.debian.org. Upgrading to the latest upstream version in case of a security update is the way things are happening in the web apps world anyway. Bug#363326: ITP: winefish -- advanced Gtk+ LaTeX editor
noowner 363326 retitle 363326 RFP: winefish -- advanced Gtk+ LaTeX editor thanks There is just spam on the winefish lists and the SVN only had one update in March 2007. So it doesn't seem, there is anybody active anymore. So I'm not longer interested in packaging winefish. However, I still offer some unofficial packages [1] which could be the base for an official package. If you are interested, just take them. PS: Reading one of the last Linux Magazines makes me think, that there might still be users interested in winefish. So hopefully someone will take this RFP and officially package winefish for Debian. Bug#458819: Re: Bug#458819: ITP: nettee -- a network tee program
Out of curiosity, besides being a bit easier to remember/type, and not requiring the user to choose a port, what benefits over combining normal tee and netcat does it have? for example: On A: nettee -in IMAGE -next B -v 31 #full logging On B: nettee -next C /dev/hda On C: nettee -next D /dev/hda On D: nettee -next E /dev/hda On E: nettee -next F /dev/hda On F: nettee /dev/hda AFAICT, that could be done more or less equivlently as On A: nc -q0 B 12345 IMAGE On B: nc -l 12345 | tee (nc -q0 C 12345) /dev/hda On C: nc -l 12345 | tee (nc -q0 D 12345) /dev/hda On D: nc -l 12345 | tee (nc -q0 E 12345) /dev/hda On E: nc -l 12345 | tee (nc -q0 F 12345) /dev/hda On F: nc -l 12345 /dev/hda (Some stdout redirections to /dev/null could be added, so stdin on the reciving does not come out as stdout on the sending end.) Hi Joe, Good question. IMHO, i think that the main benefits are: - simplicity: like you already said, the simple command, without complex pipe setups like showed in your example comments. You have to agree with me that that netcat + tee pipe commands are not trivial. If I had known about that commands, i will not have searched for somenthing like nettee in Google. - multiple target: you can specify multiple targets to send the stream and not only one. Use the -next hostlist1(,hostlist2(,hostlist3(...))) Ok.. ok.. you can make it with a complex pipe; i just can say that i will say again the previous argument. - error check in the stream data: there is a check for transmission errors in the code. This is util when there are failed nodes. - error handling while data is being transmited: there is a lot of options to the chain not die if there is a single node failure. In your pipe commands, if one node die, the full chain is lost. In short, simplicity and error check. It overrides the Perl builtin subs time, localtime, and gmtime, causing them to return a faked time of your choice. Bug#459401: ITP: c-repl -- read-eval-print loop for C
Package: wnpp Owner: Robert S. Edmonds [EMAIL PROTECTED] Severity: wishlist * Package name: c-repl Version : 0.0.20071223 Upstream Author : Evan Martin * URL : http://neugierig.org/software/c-repl/ * License : BSD Programming Lang: C, Ruby Description : read-eval-print loop for C Many programming languages come with a REPL (read-eval-print loop), which allows you to type in code line by line and see what it does. This is quite useful for prototyping, experimentation, and debugging code. . Other programming languages, and especially C, use a compile-run model, and don't provide a REPL. Let's fix that. . This approach is actually more of a read-eval loop, as c-repl doesn't know anything about the types and parse trees of the code it's running. But unlike other approaches to solving the C interpreter problem, c-repl works directly with unmodified libraries and system headers. . This means you can experiment with a new library without writing a test program or any bindings. Or just use it as a simple calculator, content in knowing it is much faster than your neighbors using irb, like driving a Ferarri on city streets. -- Robert Edmonds [EMAIL PROTECTED] signature.asc Description: Digital signature
