Bug#459320: ITP: buildutils -- Distutils extensions for developing Python libraries and applications

2008-01-05 Thread Piotr Ożarowski
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Piotr Ożarowski [EMAIL PROTECTED]

* Package name: buildutils
  Version : 0.3
  Upstream Author : Ian Bicking, Ryan Tomayko [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL : http://buildutils.lesscode.org/
* License : MIT
  Programming Lang: Python
  Description : Distutils extensions for developing Python libraries and
applications.

Python Build Utilities (buildutils) is a set of extension commands to Python's
standard distutils that are often useful during development and deployment of
python projects. buildutils was created with the desire of removing make and
other external build tools from the python development process.
.
Because buildutils is integrated with distutils, information about a project
can be obtained from the project's setup.py and setup.cfg files. This allows
commands to provide smart defaults when invoking external tools and utilities.

Bug#459318: ITP: ucspi-tcp -- tcpclient, tcpserver and other TCP easy-use commandline-tools

2008-01-05 Thread Jan Mojzis
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Jan Mojzis [EMAIL PROTECTED]

* Package name: ucspi-tcp
  Version : 0.88
  Upstream Author : Daniel J. Bernstein
* URL : http://cr.yp.to/ucspi-tcp.html
* License : public domain
  Programming Lang: C
  Description : tcpclient, tcpserver and other TCP easy-use
commandline-tools

 Written by Dan J. Bernstein, tcpclient and tcpserver are
 powerful easy-to-use command-line tools for building TCP
 client-server applications. tcpserver provides TCP access control
 features, similar to tcp-wrappers/tcpd's hosts.allow but much
 faster; it can run high-availability services much better than
 inetd.
 .
 Real-time Blocking List support is also included in tcpserver, so
 you can run qmail-smtpd with it and avoid a lot of SPAM.
 .
 tcpclient and tcpserver conform to UCSPI, the UNIX Client-Server
 Program Interface, using the TCP protocol.
 .

 For now is ucspi-tcp released into the public domain including distributing
 modified version.

 (I can help with packaging)

Bug#459325: ITP: clang -- A C language family frontend for LLVM

  Upstream Author : Chris Lattner [EMAIL PROTECTED]

  Programming Lang: C/C++
  Description : A C language family frontend for LLVM

The Clang project is a new C, C++, Objective C and Objective C++
front-end for the LLVM compiler. The end-user features of clang are
fast compiles and low memory use, expressive diagnostics, and GCC
compatibility. It has a modular library based architecture, supports
diverse clients (refactoring, static analysis, code generation, etc.)
and allows tight integration with IDEs. Internally, clang has a single
unified parser for C, Objective C, C++, and Objective C++.
.
Clang is still in early development stages and good for source analysis
or source-to-source transformation tools. It is not yet ready for use
as a drop in C compiler. It currently has pretty good parsing and
semantic analysis support for C and Objective-C. C++ support is still
very early.

Just my 2 cents.

  And while we're at it, it'd be great to have a pkg-llvm group on
alioth where we could package llvm(-gcc), clang, and other llvm
derivatives, especially given how llvm is built for now (with almost
only static libraries, making it quite a nightmare for upgrades)

Bug#459337: RFA: rote -- a simple C library for VT102 terminal emulation - development

2008-01-05 Thread Roberto C. Sanchez
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-

I request an adopter for the rote package.

I initially packaged rote when I was working on packaging anyterm.
Since anyterm has now been superseded by ajaxterm and webshell, I don't
use this package. If someone would like to adopt this package, it is
very low maintenance. If nobody steps forward in a reasonable amount of
time, I will move to ask for removal of the package. The upsteam of
this package is inactive.

The package description is:
 ROTE is a simple C library for VT102 terminal emulation. It allows the
 programmer to set up virtual 'screens' and send them data. The virtual
 screens will emulate the behavior of a VT102 terminal, interpreting escape
 sequences, control characters and such. The library supports ncurses as
 well so that you may render the virtual screen to the real screen when you
 need to.
 .
 This package contains the files necessary to develop programs that use ROTE.

 browsers' text areas.

 It also supports configuration files to define shortcuts for URLs

 This package also includes a Vim syntax file. However, you can use

The package is already in Ubuntu [1] (packaged by me), but by popular

Netsend transmits and receives files. It is highly configurable and
offers the transport protocols TCP, DCCP, UDP, UDPLITE and SCTP using
either IPv4 or IPv6 on the network layer. The cluster protocol TIPC
is also supported.

The user is able to tweak various options of the Linux network stack
to gain maximum performance. While this is not needed for trivial
filetransfer, it is valuable for network protocol performance testing.

  Description : Photo viewer and organizer with emphasis on IPTC fields

Cross-platform (UNIX, Mac OS X and Windows) picture manager and organizer,
Mapivi is a stand alone tool, there is no need for a web server, online
access or a database.

Deals with EXIF data (like timestamp, camera model, focal length, exposure
time, aperture, etc.), and is able to rename the pictures according to their
internal date/time, to display and modify JPEG comments and to do lossless
rotation.

The idea of using Mapivi as an picture organizer is to keep user, EXIF, and
IPTC information where it belongs -- in the pictures -- as well in a
searchable Mapivi database.

Mapivi is also able to do image processing. Mapivi serves here as a
frontend (GUI) for many proven command line tools, like the Image Magick
tools.

* URL: http://search.cpan.org/~adamk/Task-Weaken-1.02/lib/Task/Weaken.pm
* License: GPL/Artistic
* Description: (follows)
One recurring problem in modules that use Scalar::Util's weaken function
is that it is not present in the pure-perl variant.

.
While this isn't necesarily always a problem in a straight CPAN-based
Perl environment, some operating system distributions only include the
pure-Perl versions, don't include the XS version, and so weaken is then
missing from the platform, despite passing a dependency on
Scalar::Util successfully.

.
This restores the functionality testing to a dependency you do once in
your Makefile.PL, rather than something you have to write extra tests
for each time you write a module.

.
It should also help make the package auto-generators for the various
operating systems play more nicely, because it introduces a dependency
that they have to have a proper weaken in order to work.

Thanks.

  Description : Hildon desktop MIME type hander

libhildonmime is a library containing an API for activating applications
to handle certain MIME types in the Hildon desktop. It is similar to
gnome_vfs_url_show() but uses X-Osso-Service field in .desktop files
and activates applications with DBus directly. It also includes
hildon-update-category-database, which is update-mime-database
(from shared-mime-info) modified to recognize additional elements.

This package will be maintained by the pkg-maemo group.

  Description : extracts information from Java class files

  jclassinfo reads Java class files and extracts useful information
  from them, such as:
  * the classes/methods/constants/fields provided
  * their dependencies
  * the version of the virtual machine necessary to run them
  * a full disassembly of the bytecode
  * other attributes

  This package could come in really useful for the building of a java
dependencies checker.

  Preliminary packaging is essentially finished. I just need to polish it up
and make sure the manual page is up-to-date.

Or alternatively maintain it only in volatile.debian.org. Upgrading to

are happening in the web apps world anyway.

retitle 363326 RFP: winefish -- advanced Gtk+ LaTeX editor
thanks

There is just spam on the winefish lists and the SVN only had one update
in March 2007. So it doesn't seem, there is anybody active anymore. So
I'm not longer interested in packaging winefish.

However, I still offer some unofficial packages [1] which could be the
base for an official package. If you are interested, just take them.

PS: Reading one of the last Linux Magazines makes me think, that there
might still be users interested in winefish. So hopefully someone will
take this RFP and officially package winefish for Debian.

Bug#458819: Re: Bug#458819: ITP: nettee -- a network tee program

2008-01-05 Thread Joel Franco
 Out of curiosity, besides being a bit easier to remember/type,
 and not requiring the user to choose a port,
 what benefits over combining normal tee and netcat does it have?

 for example:

 On A:  nettee -in IMAGE -next B -v 31  #full logging
 On B:  nettee -next C /dev/hda
 On C:  nettee -next D /dev/hda
 On D:  nettee -next E /dev/hda
 On E:  nettee -next F /dev/hda
 On F:  nettee /dev/hda

 AFAICT, that could be done more or less equivlently as
 On A: nc -q0 B 12345 IMAGE
 On B: nc -l 12345 | tee (nc -q0 C 12345) /dev/hda
 On C: nc -l 12345 | tee (nc -q0 D 12345) /dev/hda
 On D: nc -l 12345 | tee (nc -q0 E 12345) /dev/hda
 On E: nc -l 12345 | tee (nc -q0 F 12345) /dev/hda
 On F: nc -l 12345 /dev/hda

 (Some stdout redirections to /dev/null could be added, so stdin on the
 reciving does not come out as stdout on the sending end.)

Hi Joe,

Good question.

IMHO, i think that the main benefits are:

- simplicity: like you already said, the simple command, without complex
  pipe setups like showed in your example comments. You have to agree
  with me that that netcat + tee pipe commands are not trivial. If I
  had known about that commands, i will not have searched for somenthing
  like nettee in Google.
- multiple target: you can specify multiple targets to send the stream
  and not only one. Use the -next hostlist1(,hostlist2(,hostlist3(...)))
  Ok.. ok.. you can make it with a complex pipe; i just can say that
  i will say again the previous argument.
- error check in the stream data: there is a check for transmission
  errors in the code. This is util when there are failed nodes.
- error handling while data is being transmited: there is a lot of
  options to the chain not die if there is a single node failure. In
  your pipe commands, if one node die, the full chain is lost.

In short, simplicity and error check.

If you liked, can you be my sponsor? :)

The OpenVAS Security Scanner is a security auditing tool. It makes
possible to test security modules in an attempt to find vulnerable
spots that should be fixed.
.
It is made up of two parts: a server, and a client. The server/daemon,
openvasd, is in charge of the attacks, whereas the client,
OpenVAS-Client, provides the user a nice X11/GTK+ interface.
.
This package contains the GTK+ client, which exists in other
forms and on other platforms, too.

Use this module to achieve the effect of changing your system clock,
but without actually changing your system clock. It overrides the Perl
builtin subs time, localtime, and gmtime, causing them to return a
faked time of your choice. From the script's point of view, time still
flows at the normal rate, but it is just offset as if it were executing
in the past or present.

  Upstream Author : Evan Martin
* URL : http://neugierig.org/software/c-repl/
* License : BSD
  Programming Lang: C, Ruby
  Description : read-eval-print loop for C

 Many programming languages come with a REPL (read-eval-print loop), which
 allows you to type in code line by line and see what it does. This is quite
 useful for prototyping, experimentation, and debugging code.
 .
 Other programming languages, and especially C, use a compile-run model,
 and don't provide a REPL. Let's fix that.
 .
 This approach is actually more of a read-eval loop, as c-repl doesn't know
 anything about the types and parse trees of the code it's running. But
 unlike other approaches to solving the C interpreter problem, c-repl
 works directly with unmodified libraries and system headers.
 .
 This means you can experiment with a new library without writing a test
 program or any bindings. Or just use it as a simple calculator, content in
 knowing it is much faster than your neighbors using irb, like driving a
 Ferarri on city streets.
