Bug#464954: IxNpeMicrocode.h and Debian
On Sat, Feb 09, 2008 at 08:54:13PM -0500, Joey Hess wrote: Hi, I'm considering including your IxNpeMicrocode.h file in Debian, and using it to build microcode files for the NSLU2, as you can see here: http://bugs.debian.org/464954 While I was reviewing the licenses, I found a problem. Your IxNpeMicrocode.h is GPL licensed. But it is #included from IxNpeMicrocode.c, which of course is not GPLed code. My analysis of Intel's license is that it's not compatible with the GPL -- the GPL does not give me the right to link Intel's non-free code together with your GPLed code. Clearly you intend for IxNpeMicrocode.h to be linked into IxNpeMicrocode.c, though. Can I suggest that you amend the license of the file to make it clear that we're allowed to do so? One way to do it would be to change the license to a BSD license, as code under a BSD license can be linked to any other code, with no problems. Or, the license could be left GPL, but with an exception added, such as: As a special exception, this program may be linked with Intel's XP400 NPE Microcode Image file (IxNpeMicrocode.c), despite that file's more restrictive license. I hope this makes sense and that this issue doesn't prevent me from including the ixp microcode in Debian non-free. I changed the licence and added the proposed exception. co ci szkodzi to tylko 5 złotych a jaka ra dość potem TO DZIAŁA SAM NIE WIERZYŁEM!!!!!
Witam Postanowiłem do tego przystąpić! W końcu to tylko 5,- zł. Przesyłam otrzymany tekst (ja tez go dostalem tak poprostu), mam nadzieje ze Ty tez do niego przystapisz a wtedy ani ja, ani Ty sie nie zawiedziesz! Pozdrawiam. Remik. Teraz daję taką możliwość Tobie i kolejnym użytkownikom allegro. Proszę poświęcić chwilkę i przeczytać maila! A jednak. A moje konto wciąż rosło i dalej rośnie. Jeżeli masz chociaż 13 lat, to możesz założyć swoje własne konto w banku. To naprawdę proste!!! Oto

I have reworded it, from the README file, and from the author description: Fusil is a fuzzing framework designed to expose bugs in software by changing random bits of its input. It helps to start process with a prepared environment (limit memory, environment variables, redirect stdout, etc.), start network client or server, and create mangled files. Fusil has many probes to detect program crash: watch process exit code, watch process stdout and syslog for text patterns (eg. segmentation fault), watch session duration, watch cpu usage (process and system load), etc. . Fusil is based on a modular architecture. It computes a session score used to guess fuzzing parameters like number of injected errors to input files. . Available fuzzing projects: ClamAV, Firefox (contains an HTTP server), gettext, gstreamer, identify, libc_env, libc_printf, libexif, linux_syscall, mplayer, php, poppler, vim, xterm. Fusil is able to crash ClamAV, Image Magick, libc printf(), Mplayer, PHP, RPM, xterm, libc gettext, libc environment variables, libpoppler (pdf), vim, etc The description is very unclear to me. After looking at the Fusil website, I have some understanding of what fusil does. It is not a stand-alone program like fuzz or zzuf that work directly with any program. It rather is a framework that allows you to write Python scripts that specifically target a certain program. You should mention that in the long description. The part about the implementation being based on a multi-agent system architecture is not useful information. multi-agent is a bit of a buzzword that can mean many things. Furthermore, it is not useful for a user of a program to know whether it is implemented in C, with a multi-agent system or with bananas. The list of programs and libraries that Fusil can crash will change over time, since the whole point of Fusil is to find bugs so one can fix them. Any progress in packaging it? I have a package for 1.0. But I failed to convince upstream the put the documentation sources into the source tarball. He seems to be pretty much set with respect to what people need and what not. Therefore the sources have to be repackages (removed docs) or a new source distribution has to be compiled from the upstream source SVN. I see. No problem, let's repackage upstream by deleting the doc directory I do that by adding a target get-orig-sources in the debian/rules, which does that for me. At the moment I am (re)evaluating whether I want to do that or go with pygame. In sympy, we use svn, but for Debian I recommend to package the latest released version (with deleting the doc dir), so that all is clear which version we have. If you or the DPMT want to take over, please feel free to do so: http://git.debian.org/?p=pkg-exppsy/pyglet.git;a=summary OK, I'll take over it. The only problem is that DPMT uses svn for all it's packages. So I just start initialize it with your latest git version, is that ok? Hello Brandon, I have a sponsor for a couple other packages. Unfortunately, he is not responding to my emails. I sent a Request for Sponsorship to debian-mentors a few days ago, but there is no response to that. It might be some time before I can adopt pydance. I fixed bug #434457, which is a bug that causes pydance to crash. I'll upload the patch there, in case I can't adopt pydance anytime soon. why don't you join Debian Python Apps Team [1], inject the package in our svn repository, and ask sponsorship under DPAT hat? I orphaned the package just a few days ago, so please wait a little bit more. Why? Did you look at http://bugs.debian.org/230358 ? The package does not work at all with a 2.6 kernel. A 2.4 kernel was last shipped with sarge, so there is absolutly no point in keeping it any day longer in sid. Normally package removals should not be requested before two months since the package has been orphaned. In the case of this package I'll request its removal within two weeks. Sure, please go on. Could you please drop me a note when you checked it into SVN. I will remove the git repository when it is done. Bug#462178: please remove this package
Dear Holger, On 11/02/2008, Holger Levsen [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Dear Raphael, This package is being tracked by me I saw your mail to this bug, but I consider QA work team work :-) Sure it is :) and its removal will be requested after giving a grace period of time (more than one week) so there are more chances for people to adopt it. But if you re-read the bug report you will see that the necessary changes to fix it aren't many (but I should probably reconsider that because of /proc not existing in newer kernels, starting with .24?) Normally package removals should not be requested before two months since the package has been orphaned. In the case of this package I'll request its removal within two weeks. As you wrote: normally... This package should not have been part of the etch release, so it's pointless to wait any day longer. Heck, you could even request its removal from stable :-) I've already requested its removal from stable :) I don't see any real problem on keeping this report a few more days on wnpp to give people the opportunity to see it is up for adoption. IMO some people prefer to fix an existing package than to 'Debianise' from scratch, hence my desire to keep it a few more days. But if you believe it really makes no sense at all to keep the report open on wnpp feel free to reassign it to ftp.debian.org with a correct removal request subject and CC me so I update packages-actions.txt regards, Holger Kind regards, -- Atomo64 - Raphael Please avoid sending me Word, PowerPoint or Excel attachments. Bug#465204: ITP: fusil -- Fuzzing program to test applications
On Mon, Feb 11, 2008 at 01:08:38PM +0100, Guus Sliepen wrote: The description is very unclear to me. If you want to mention it, change the sentence to the past or perfect tense, like Fusil was able to... or Fusil has been used to Right, the previous description was not clear. Could you please maintain pyglet in the Debian Python Modules Team (DPMT)? http://wiki.debian.org/Teams/PythonModulesTeam This is so that it's easy for the DPMT members to manage and make changes to all python modules. For example when a python policy changes, or we switch from python2.4 to python2.5 etc. Sure I would, but read on. Upstream has released a new version that works with sympy. Right.
