Bug#465369: GoLearn
2008/2/18, Enrico Zini [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Done and committed: give it a try. For kicks, I also implemented --secondary=facet to choose the facet to use instead of 'interface'. Note: --ftags can be a comma-separated list of tags, that will be ANDed: this means that you can do this, which is probably what you want: goplay --go=field --ftags=use::learning, role::program I've just run that: the result is really nice! Your idea seems to nicely hit the spot. Great! :) I believe it would then also make sense to either use a more generic facet than gaming by default or make the --facet option required, and rename the tool and the dependent games-thumbnails package. But that is just cosmetics. Note that goplay is written by the gnome game team, so not having gaming as a default would be a bit of a shame :) Gnome game team? :P X Also, if you require --facet, you can't just click and run the program, which takes half of the ease away. However, anyone's welcome to make a godebian program that shows like 6 big stilish icons one with every direction you'd like to go, and by clicking on an icon goplay is launched with the right options. The idea we discussed with Miriam, though, was something like to store a number of preset defaults inside the program, and choose them based on the program name. That way you can, for example, run it as 'golearn' and it will choose a different set of defaults. Turns out that this was rather easy to implement as well, so I did it. I took advantage of the opportunity for, in case of golearn, use as --ftags something like: use::learning (role::program || role::documentation). Thanks Enrico! That's cool! :) I've looked around at the available facets, and I implemented this list of possible alternate names, all of which are implemented: goadmin golearn gonet gooffice goplay gosafe goweb Please try it out: does it do what you want? btw, should we reassign this bug to goplay, for filing purpose? Yep, I think we should :) Greetings, Miry -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Bug#453680: any progress on djbdns?
On Mon, Feb 18, 2008 at 02:00:24AM -0500, Robert Edmonds wrote: Hi, Gerrit: Any progress? Will djbdns make it into lenny? Hi Robert, djbdns depends on ucspi-tcp and daemontools. While ucspi-tcp should hit the main archive soon (source of previous non-free package needed to be removed), daemontools still needs some time. It first was necessary to find out how to make the daemontools installation comply with Debian policy while still respecting upstream's preferences. This seems to be done now, but it still needs some time because the runit package needs to be adapted to play well with the new packages (#461478). The djbdns package should be quite easy once the dependencies are finished. Thanks, Gerrit. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? I am actually happy about the limited interface. I feel it has a quality of its own. Yes, I remember clearly your point in Finland that brain can't cope with more than seven items at a time - but I feel that offering 6 steering wheels on an app browser is like the old misunderstanding advertising companies did with an analysis that users tend to get bored and leave a website if it took more than 15 seconds to load: They then instructed the web developers to put stuff content onto the pages until it reached just below those magic 15 seconds on an average modem speed. And still do... :-P The idea we discussed with Miriam, though, was something like to store a number of preset defaults inside the program, and choose them based on the program name. That way you can, for example, run it as 'golearn' and it will choose a different set of defaults. Turns out that this was rather easy to implement as well, so I did it. Marvellous. Please try it out: does it do what you want? I'll give it a try when I've posted this email. ...now after I cut out the rest of that quote I remembered that you mentioned something about adding documentation in addition to programs for the golearn shape of the browser. I disagree: debian-edu is about a lot of things - both educational programs, technical tools for setting up and maintaining a school network, and documentation of that. What I was aiming at with golearn was not to show the contents of debian-edu, but more specifically to promote educational applications available (and properly tagged with debtags!) in Debian. ...that paranthesis being quite important: We want to show what is considered educational according to debtags, to push more tagging, so that we can better rely on debtagging to do more flexible CDD rollouts, generate books on educational apps in Debian (automated layout but changing content and ordering based on eg. locale, target group), do analysis (eg. how would priorites and amount of packages change if we included gaming packages in debian-edu?). btw, should we reassign this bug to goplay, for filing purpose? Agreed. this has the combined result of dropping the ITP and putting a symbolic pressure on getting out a new release of goplay with these exciting features added. Should be done with this email. I believe we now need to extend to packaging to include symlinks for those added program names, and mention them in the long description too. Could you provide me write access to the repository? Then I'll go mess with the packaging part right away. Next question is what to do about games-snapshots. Should we depend on that and recommend/suggest learning-snapshots, security-snapshots etc.? That approach saves space if you only want the gaming part. But is difficult to then decide where a snapshot should go if applying to multiple scopes. Alternatively one large apps-snapshots package. Easier to handle in the browser tool (only one path to lookup, like now), but tha package might become quite large if the tool gets popular. Let me throw in here one of our future ideas related to that: For book generation we would need not low-res screenshots like now in games-snapshots but high-res images similarly tied one-on-one with packages. If you fix that issues I'll sponsor the package, if you are still interested in maintaining it. Bug#466433: ITP: dkfilter -- implements domainKeys message signing and verification
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist Owner: Thomas Goirand [EMAIL PROTECTED] * Package name: dkfilter Version : 0.11 Upstream Author : Jason Long [EMAIL PROTECTED] * URL : http://jason.long.name/dkfilter/ * License : GPL v2 Programming Lang: Perl Description : implements domainKeys message signing and verification dkfilter is an SMTP-proxy designed for Postfix. It implements DomainKeys message signing and verification. It comprises two separate filters, an outbound filter for signing outgoing email, and an inbound filter for verifying signatures of incoming email. The filters can operate as either Before-Queue or After-Queue Postfix content filters. The following is not in the control file, just in this ITP: As Yahoo! requests DomainKeys to be implemented for sending mail to them, it's quite urgent that this package reaches SID asap to allow people to be able to send email to Yahoo! Note that this package is NOT to be confused with dk-filter (with a dash) that is a package for Sendmail, and that has nothing to do with the perl scripts for which I'm doing an ITP (even though both intend to implement DomainKeys, one is for Sendmail, while this one is for Postfix). -- System Information: Debian Release: 4.0 APT prefers stable APT policy: (700, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.23.9 Locale: LANG=fr_FR, LC_CTYPE=fr_FR (charmap=ISO-8859-1) -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#304570: ITP takeover?
Hi David, 2008/2/17, David Paleino [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Can't we propose him to upload it to experimental? That wouldn't hurt unstable (thus also testing -- and stable) users, but we could still have Code::Blocks inside Debian repositories. As he told me, he doesn't believe on 2.8 version but he believes in the 3.0version in the near future. I think he wouldn't be interested about having a lot of work on a version he doesn't see as stable enough just to let it go to experimental which is a version only used or even known by people who are really testing softwares. Fully agree w.r.t. respecting upstream's decisions (ando also other maintainers') So do I, for two reasons: - He knows better than me the real situation of the softwares he have been involved for so much time. - I really want to help Debian because I am very grateful to this distro. It worths nothing to start fighting other members which are helping Debian for more time than me. Again, why don't you propose it for experimental? I really don't think it is a good idea as I told you before. I am conformed to wait though it is not my point-of-view. I'm currently using packages provided by the Code::Blocks team itself, plus the wxWidgets from wxwidgets.org: deb http://jens.lody.name/debian/ any main deb-src http://jens.lody.name/debian/ any main deb http://apt.wxwidgets.org/ etch-wx main My packages were based upon their job but the developers made those only to let Debian users to have a package. To create a package is completely different of that package be in conformance to all Debian standards and able to go to the repositories. That's why so much work. Before your reply we were planning on team-maintaining Code::Blocks -- if it was the case. What do you think about this? (again: I'm talking about an experimental package -- not unstable as its dependencies wouldn't be satisfied in Debian at the moment) Maintaining a package in the repositories is not a hard job. There is always someone looking forward to be a maintainer. It is not something that one doesn't need too much help except by some rare cases. So the only reasons for me not uploading it into the repositories are the problems already related. Anyway I really appreciate you are in a hurry to have Code::Blocks on the repositories too. I have been using it and I am very fan of the project. I really believe it will be very good to Debian and to Code::Blocks itself. If you still will be so helpful at the moment of some change of the actual blocks then write to me again so we can always help each other and the whole community. I think future communications from now on should be made without cc to mentors and to the ITP bug hence we don't fill Debian systems with things we can not be helped anyway. Best regards, Erick Mattos.

Bug#456227: Notes on this package
I have fixed most of these things... (might have missed one or two) and uploaded to mentors.debian.net... Micah Anderson wrote: I've reviewed this package and made some notes on things that I think need to be changed before it can be uploaded to the archive. I previously sent these directly to Monty, but for posterity, I am re-sending to the ITP bug here. I can offer sponsorship of this package if you need it. That would actually be nice. I've got packaging up and usable on launchpad. If you'd like to look at it: https://launchpad.net/~pkg-sphinx/+archive I cannot sponsor for ubuntu, but for debian I can. I was able to pull the source package and am taking a look at it. Otherwise, let me know where to stick them and I'll make a new source package that's actually targeted at Debian. Have you given much thought about how you are wanting to maintain both an ubuntu and debian package? There are going to be differences in both and perhaps you will want a different branch in the SCM? I'm new to launchpad and bzr, but it looks like there is just a trunk branch at the moment (correct me if I am wrong). If you want to create debian specific packags, and separate development completely, you could create an alioth account to get a SCM repository in Debian land. But if you just want to make a different branch in the existing launchpad bzr for Debian, you could upload the debian-specific package to http://mentors.debian.net, or just put it somewhere that I can get at it. I need to update this to a later version - but this would be ok for now I think. If there is a newer version available, lets do that at the same time, probably best to get the latest and greatest in all at once, no? Although, it looks like you've been pulling from the SVN trunk, and the Sphinx page says that r1112 is pretty much a release, except for out of date documentation. Specific notes on the package: . README.Debian needs to be filled out . the version numbers in the changelog are long and ubuntuy, but I think it makes sense to denote the svn revision, maybe change those to debian in the debian branch (version 0.9.8-0u buntu3~svn985 has a space in the version number, which is not legal... maybe you want to fix that?) . The Vcs, Homepage, and Browser debian/control fields would have to be changed if you made a different branch for debian . I know the upstream home page has as their description of Sphinx Free open-source SQL full-text search engine, but what about changing it to be a little more descriptive, such as, Fast standalone full-text SQL search engine or similar? The Free open-source part of the description is what gets me... . Longer description shouldn't reference the license in the first paragraph, just cut that first part out. In the second paragraph, instead of using the project text verbatum, maybe change Generally, to be Sphinx search is a standalone... and change the last paragraph just to be, Sphinx is an acronym which is officially decoded as SQL Phrase Index. and get rid of the Yes, I know... part (its a little glib for a package description). The doc/sphinx.txt has some good additional information that might be worth including (in the About and Features sections), but you do want to keep things not too long . I made a couple minor cosmetic changes to debian/rules, I've attached a diff to this email . I notice that there is a daemon (searchd), but you are not providing an initscript for it, there should be one created and it should be named after the package (perhaps a cronjob is needed as well?) . libmysqlclient-dev is only in experimental right now, can this use libmysqlclient15-dev until that is available in sid? . the /bin/bash bootstrap in the rules is something that is weird, first of all it is not a bash script at all, and you aren't build-depending on bash, so you probably shouldn't include it. It would be better to have an autotools: build target in debian/rules that maybe did that if you needed to run it. The sphinx.conf file. There isn't one being generated with some sane defaults and put into /etc/sphinx.conf (perhaps considering putting some defaults in /etc/defaults/sphinxsearch?). This filename might cause some problems, because of the package name, but it shouldn't be a big deal for now, but it might be worthwhile to make things be in /etc/sphinxsearch/sphinx.conf. The config also has /var/log/searchd.log created, maybe that should be /var/log/sphinxsearch.log, or maybe /var/log/sphinxsearch/searchd.log would be better. The default location for the PID file in the config is: @CONFDIR@/log/searchd.pid That should be /var/run/searchd.pid I do notice however that /var/lib/sphinx-search is created, when that=20 probably should be /var/lib/sphinxsearch to correspond to the package name. Also /var/lib/sphinxsearch/data should be created, as that is used. I hope this isn't all

Apart from a few additional characters such as Chinese punctuation marks, the design is the same and represents a new rendering of the New Tai Lue (Xishuangbanna Dai) script, which was added to Unicode 4.1. These fonts include a complete set of New Tai Lue consonants, vowels, tones and digits, along with punctuation and other useful symbols. A basic set of Latin glyphs, including Arabic numerals, is also provided. Chinese punctuation used in New Tai Lue texts are included as well. Two font families, differing only in weight, allow for a wide range of uses. The New Tai Lue script is used by approximately 300,000 people who speak the Xishuangbanna Dai language in Yunnan, China. It is a simplification of the Tai Tham (Old Tai Lue) script as used for this language for hundreds of years. These fonts are smart fonts and use a Graphite description. The font sources (Graphite .gdl and FontLab .vfb) are available in the source package and on the upstream website. -- Nicolas Spalinger http://scripts.sil.org http://pkg-fonts.alioth.debian.org/ https://launchpad.net/people/fonts signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature ---End Message--- ---BeginMessage--- Source: ttf-sil-dai-banna Source-Version: 2.000-1 We believe that the bug you reported is fixed in the latest version of ttf-sil-dai-banna, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive: ttf-sil-dai-banna_2.000-1.diff.gz to pool/main/t/ttf-sil-dai-banna/ttf-sil-dai-banna_2.000-1.diff.gz ttf-sil-dai-banna_2.000-1.dsc to pool/main/t/ttf-sil-dai-banna/ttf-sil-dai-banna_2.000-1.dsc ttf-sil-dai-banna_2.000-1_all.deb to pool/main/t/ttf-sil-dai-banna/ttf-sil-dai-banna_2.000-1_all.deb ttf-sil-dai-banna_2.000.orig.tar.gz to pool/main/t/ttf-sil-dai-banna/ttf-sil-dai-banna_2.000.orig.tar.gz A summary of the changes between this version and the previous one is attached. Bug#466481: RFA: dirdiff -- Display and merge changes between two directory trees.
Package: wnpp Severity: normal The package is very stable: last upstream release was 2 years ago. But there are a couple of bugs that could be addressed by someone with interest and proficiency in tcl. I lack both, so I hereby request an adopter for the dirdiff package. The package description is: Dirdiff can handle up to 5 trees. It displays a main window with a list of the files which are different between the trees, with colored squares to indicate the relative ages of the versions. A menu allows you to display the differences between any two of the versions in another window. Another menu allows you to copy the file from one tree to another. -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (990, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.24-1-686 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C (charmap=ANSI_X3.4-1968) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe.
