Description:
MAdLib is a mesh adaptation library. This is an important tool for numerical
simulations in particular in the context of finite element
simulation. At the moment Debian is missing such a tool. This package is almost
ready to b uploaded in the git repository of pkgscicomp.
Note that MAdLib is strongly related to Gmsh : it uses Gmsh to ensure that the
geometry is preserved while adapting the mesh.
MAdLib is a library that performs global node repositioning and mesh adaptation
by local mesh modifications on tetrahedral or triangular
meshes. It is designed to frequently adapt the mesh in transient computations.
MAdLib is written in C++.
The adaptation procedure is driven by two objectives:
 - make the edge lengths as close as possible to a (non-homogenous) prescribed
length,
 - maintain a satisfying element quality everywhere.
MAdLib can therefore be used in transient computations in order to maintain a
satisfying element quality (moving boundaries, multiphase
flows with interface tracking, ...) or/and to apply selective refinements and
coarsenings (error estimators based, interface capturing:
shocks, free surfaces, ...).

MAdLib is copyright (C) 2008-2009 by the Université catholique de Louvain,

I have contacted the upstream of the two dictionaries, xdict and
stardict 1.3. Most mails are failed to send. And no one responses my
mail. I am afraid that we can not figure out how these dictionaries are
 made.

On their main dictionary entrance page,
http://stardict.sourceforge.net/Dictionaries.php

there is a disclaimer,

Notice: As the dictionaries are collected from the internet, we can't
make sure of each dictionary's license, if you find your dictionaries
are downloadable here, which is not allowed, please mail me, i will
remove it soon.

So I think (and heard) Changwoo's suspicion is right.

Just pack those save ones. All stardict dictionaries are extremely
easy to install anyway.

I am afraid that only CEDICT is safe, and we should remove package

Net_LDAP2 is the successor of Net_LDAP which is a clone of Perls
Net::LDAP object interface to directory servers. It does
contain most of Net::LDAPs features but has some own too.
 With Net_LDAP2 you have:
 .
  * A simple object-oriented interface to connections, searches entries
and filters.
  * Support for tls and ldap v3.
  * Simple modification, deletion and creation of ldap entries.
  * Support for schema handling.
 .
Net_LDAP2 layers itself on top of PHP's existing ldap extensions.

Bug#494488: Status of polyml

good question. As a matter of fact,
- the main motivation of packaging polyml, i.e., packaging Isabelle,
  has been canceled and
- there are two other SML systems (sml/NJ and mlton) already part of
  Debian.

Still, I think PolyML brings some unique features and is, moreover,
actively maintained. Thus, I would conclude it is still worthwhile to
package. I just pushed a first update to Poly/ML 5.2.1 to the git
repository and I will try to polish it within the next days ...

 http://lists.debian.org/debian-mentors/2009/07/msg00346.html

I'd be happy, if you'd like to have a look and eventually sponsor it. The
package still misses proper dependency mapping from the components version to
the releases version. For now everything depends on version 2009.1.1. I'll
 add
this mapping for the next version.

You've just pointed out a major flaw that would mean I won't sponsor the
package. Debian packages should be of the highest quality possible. If the
dependencies are missing, then things can break.

Please fix these, and then I will look into reviewing your package.

It won't be eligible for etch-backports unless a version of the package
reaches testing (and unless it's not possible to just apt pin it from
there).

It might get packaged for unstable/testing if there's a good reason why
we need a newer version (CPAN has 0.46 and perl-modules has 0.40_1).
Looks like there's some bug fixes...

Simple console based application, which can be used to lock the terminal with a
password string supplied by user from standard input, or with her login
password as needed. By default tlock prompts the user for a password and then
locks the terminal until the same password is supplied again. When invoked with
-s flag, tlock locks the terminal with the user's login password.

This package will also provide the library packages librpass0 and librpass0-dev,
with long description:

Static library installed with tlock, it provides a function readpass() that
reads in a password string from standard input of process and returns it back,
AS IS, to the calling application. While fetching password from standard
input, readpass first turns off the echo of input characters and the
generation of signals through keystrokes, reads in the password, turns the
character echo and signal generation back on, and returns to the calling
application a character pointer pointing at the password string.

Bug#539944: RFH: logcheck / also an idea for a logcheck rewrite

2009-08-04 Thread martin f krafft
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

We could use help with logcheck, specifically:

- bug triaging, which is mainly updating rule files
- bug fixing of features and faults
- implementing templates for rules, e.g. @IPADDR@ and refactoring
the rule files so that there aren't seven dozens different regexps
  for IP addresses
- improving the performance and usefulness
  * only process filters for packages that are installed
  * find a way to avoid the multipass approach logcheck currently
takes

The package is maintained with Git, but there are no branches, so
use is trivial.

If you're interested, please pass me your alioth.debian.org account
so that I can give you commit access.

* * *

In the long run, I'd love to see a rewrite of logcheck with some of
the following features:

- tag-based, so that an admin can choose whether to see e.g. daemon
restart messages, authentication attempts for invalid/nonexistent
  accounts, etc.
- runs as a daemon and can process new log entries instantly.
- possibly interfaces directly with rsyslog to avoid having to go
  via log files
- configurable actions, e.g. mail, jabber, file, postgresql
- provide patterns/templates and easy instructions (possibly
automatic filter generators) to encourage package maintainers to
  provide the files themselves.
- possibly require message samples with each filter to allow for
  a test suite.
- and many more.

Please send further ideas to this bug report.

Talk to me if you're interested in this, and I'd be happy to assist.
I don't have time to do it myself.

Do you still plan to adopt libxml-sablot-perl? If not, I would suggest
just removing that package from Debian (ie: please do it, with a RM:
libxml-sablot-perl -- RoQA ; orphaned, alternatives, no adopter for 2y

Thanks for the reminder, and the propsal.
I had looked at the package back then, and was not really amused
about its state.
So if noone else from the Debian Perl Group speaks up I will change
the bug into a removal request in a few days.

Bug#478755: RFS: ezcomponents

2009-08-04 Thread Thomas Koch
Hi Martin,

thanks for your reply. I've added the dependency mapping. This will have an
effect only for future releases of eZ Components when there will actually be
different versions in Debian to choose from.
I've also fixed a dpkg-source notice about missing line-breaks at the end of
*.dirs and *.install files and checked the package against lintian --pedantic.

The new version has been uploaded to mentors:
http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/p/php-ezcomponents

Hmm... I thought dict-stardic is safe too. Afterall, stardic has been

FireGPG is an Iceweasel (Mozilla Firefox) extension which brings an
interface to perform OpenPGP operations over the web. With it, you
can encrypt, decrypt, sign or verify the signature of a text in any
web page, including GMail, using GnuPG. There are also special

with any webmail or text box in websites.

FireGPG is written in English and French and is translated to many

FireGPG was in debian up until recently, but was removed due to
security concerns. The new upstream version i'm preparing for debian
addresses those concerns, and i've been working with upstream to
address some other usability and security concerns.

My goal is also to make this package conform to the new draft policy

Thanks for that, Daniel. I was the one who pushed to actually get the
package removed because of the bug you filed.

Upstream's fixes for problem you reported are actually quite significant
(enough to change the package into an architecture-dependent one), but
i've sorted out the packaging and the new approach appears to work
properly now, though the build process is a little wacky.

i hope to have 0.7.8 uploaded to NEW today.

Following this afternoon's discussion on #debian-devel, I'm filing
this RFH bug to note that Ron, the wxwidgets2.6 maintainer, does
encourage people wanting to actively work on getting 2.8 into Debian
to do so.

Bear in mind that there are lots of open issues that should be
tackled, preferably in cooperation with upstream. Starting with an
experimental upload is probably a good idea.

Ron is willing to grant alioth/git access.

(Filing on wnpp/wxwidgets2.6 for additional visibility.)

Thanks,
Christoph

Bug#539999: RFA: kpowersave

2009-08-04 Thread Michael Biebl
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I'm giving kpowersave up for adoption as I no longer use it.
It has been replaced/superseded by powerdevil in KDE4.

It has to be noted that the project is dead upstream and kpowersave
currently ftbfs.

It's probably best to just remove it from the archive but I'm giving
anyone interested the chance to take over.

In case no new maintainer can be found after 1 month I'll request the
removal of the package.

Bug#404942: syncevolution packaging update

2009-08-04 Thread David Bremner

So I have debian packaging for syncevolution 0.9beta3+something at

Vcs-Git: git://git.debian.org/git/collab-maint/syncevolution
Vcs-Browser: http://git.debian.org/?p=collab-maint/syncevolution

It is integrated with upstream history from moblin. The main question
mark is the embedded copy of libsynthesis.

I have a few questions for Patrick

  1) can I assume that the version of synthesis embedded is given by the git
hash in src/synthesis/README?
So if I just check that hash out, I'll get the same code?

  2) Paul Liu suggests making separate packages for the syncevolution shared
libraries so that applications
can link to them. Is the ABI stable enough (i.e. say over a few releases) to
make this worthwhile?

  3) Same question for libsynthesis. I saw there have been no tarball
releases yet, which makes me think things are still prety fluid.

Thanks and sorry for the glacial pace,

David
