the blocking bug 407722 [1] is marked »wontfix« and judging from the
answers on my question sent to the Git list (also cc-ed to [1]) it looks
like the only option is to link statically against libgit. :(

Can some Debian Developers please comment on this? And if no other
solution is proposed could we get cgit included into the Debian package
repository and with luck cgit might be available in Debian squeeze.

I'm not optimistic that the git developers will support development
against the library. It's really a shame since it would benefit some
kinds of projects that are performance bound

You are right, as can be seen by the replies to bug #407722 [1].

So we should deal with this situation and link against libgit
statically. What do I miss?

do a git bisect, but given the build time, that will take quite a while!

Which was the last version that ran without this error? I'd like to
figure out the differences and try to get this working. I've tried a

from a -5 release...

libhivex is a library for extracting the contents of Windows Registry
hive files. It is designed to be secure against buggy or malicious
registry files.

Unlike many other tools in this area, it doesn't use the textual .REG
format for output, because parsing that is as much trouble as parsing
the original binary format. Instead it makes the file available through
a C API, or there is a separate program to export the hive as XML (see
hivexml(1)), or to get individual keys (see hivexget(1)).

This application is based on USBView of Greg Kroah-Hartman but
uses GTK+ as graphical library. Additionally to the functions of
USBView, it implements three list views with extende device infos
  and a new properties dialog.

The package looks nice, but it to use /proc/bus/usb, which seems to be
deprecated nowadays (it isn't mounted on my system).

You are right! The usbfs is marked as deprecated now (I have checked it in the
mainline kernel), but on my running system it doesn't (I have here a Lenny
kernel).

I haven't investigated that much, but I thought I should warn you before
you invest too much time in this tool.

Well, I will update the tool for supporting the new device nodes too.

Also, the package description should be reviewed. It should mention that
the tool provides low level (technical details) of the devices.

Good, I will add this info too.

I will start working on the new support and report it when it's done.

Thanks,

Luis
