Bug#593587: ITP: libparallel-useragent-perl

2010-09-01 Thread Ansgar Burchardt
Hi,

I just saw a link [1] scroll by on #perl. It lists several
alternatives to LWP::Parallel::UserAgent, including one that might be a
drop-in solution (search for WWW::Curl::Simple).

Maybe it's easier to try those than fixing LWP::Parallel.

Regards,
Ansgar

this is very kind of yours. This information will be forwarded
to upstream, but I don't see an immediate change.
The Ensembl (www.ensembl.org) package is complex. The
value we want to add is on getting upstream's work installed
locally, just like it is, basically.

This all may mean that we need to let it reside in experimental for a while.

Best,

Steffen

Bug#595143: RFP: libjs-asciimathml -- javascript library to render high quality mathematical formulas in a browser

2010-09-01 Thread Rogério Brito
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: libjs-asciimathml
  Version : 2.0.2
Upstream Author : Peter Jipsen jip...@chapman.edu
* URL : http://asciimathml.sourceforge.net/
* License : LGPL-2.1+
  Programming Lang: JavaScript
Description : JavaScript library to render high quality Mathematics in a
browser

ASCIIMathML is a set of JavaScript functions to convert ASCII math
notation and LaTeX to Presentation MathML. Simple graphics commands are
also translated to SVG images. ASCIIMathML is designed to be very easy
to use and mimic to a great extent the way that one would use to type
mathematical formulas by means like e-mail.

This makes its use especially suited for teachers and instructors of
disciplines based on Mathematics that want to use an eletronic medium
(like, for instance, a blog or a web forum) with students and still not
be encumbered with difficult, non-intuitive, non-standard notation for
formulas.

A more Web 2.0 description of ASCIIMathML could be: a JavaScript to
convert ASCII math notation (and some LaTeX) to Presentation MathML
while your webpage loads. Now also simple graphs are translates to
SVG.

It's use is simple and only a single include in an (X)HTML page is
needed for the use of the library.

---

This would really rock to have when using a ikiwiki wiki/blog to typeset
mathematics. See the examples in the homepage of the author. [1][2][3]

Bug#590049: nxjc in livecd

2010-09-01 Thread Chris Baines
Hi Robert,

That sounds really good, sorry for the late reply, I have been away form the
computer for the last week, I have the beginnings of a package, but have
been unable to work on it for the last few weeks. I am unsure when I will
continue work on this as I am deep in packaging for the FlightGear project
at the moment.

So far I have so far packaged cpptasks, one of the build depends included
with Lejos NXJ and have been experimenting with the firmware building
process. These are the two main reasons why the Lejos NXJ package will be
quite complex, the Lejos NXJ project releases are not suited to being built,
all the binaries are already compiled in the release and secondly, the
firmware file requires a custom toolchain. The first just requires complex
build rules, the second I have tried to solve by including the necessary
sources for building the toolchain to build the firmware file in the Lejos
NXJ source package. This should allow me to perfectly duplicate the compile
process of upstream.

At the moment my package is in such a state where it would hinder you more
trying to work with it. I am unfamiliar with the process of building live
cd's but if you need to do this soon then I would find a way of doing it
without a deb package. I will have another look at my package this week and
see if I can get it working.

Chris

Description : an Artificial Intelligence Markup Language interpreter for
Python

PyAIML is an interpreter for AIML, the Artificial Intelligence Markup
Language, implemented as a 100% pure standard Python package.

The package is fully compliant with the AIML 1.0.1 standard: no less,
but also no more. PyAIML's focus is (and will remain) bare-bones AIML
interpreting. That means no support for obscure communication protocols,
no advanced non-standard features, and no user interface to speak of.

Dear Maintainer,

While reviewing some packages, your package came up as a package that
should maybe be orphaned by its maintainer, because:

* Trivial RC bug without maintainer action
* Last maintainer upload in 2003
* New upstream versions, requested in BTS without maintainer
  reaction
* No other visible activity on the package

If you think that it should be removed from Debian instead of being
orphaned, please reply to this bug and tell so.

If you disagree and want to continue to maintain this package, please
close this bug and do an upload also fixing the other issues.
Also, you can study the possibility of taking co-maintainers.

If you agree that it should be orphaned, send the following commands
to cont...@bugs.debian.org (replace nn with this bug's number):

severity nn normal
reassign nn wnpp
retitle nn O: packagename -- short package description
thanks

If you think it should be removed, send the following commands instead:

severity nn normal
reassign nn ftp.debian.org
retitle nn RM: packagename -- RoM; reasons
thanks

I rarely use my Powerbook anymore since I bought a new laptop.

I already packaged the latest upstream version but didn't get around to test

and upload it (for some months now :( ).

You can find it at http://people.debian.org/~djpig/orphan-pbbuttons

This directory also contains a tarball of my CVS repository in which

I maintained pbbuttonsd and related packages. Just in case you're interested

in the history of the packaging.

Anyone adopting this package should probably also adopt pbbuttonsd
and gtkpbbuttons and (for which I will separate O bugs though).

Bug#595162: RFP: phynx -- High-level Python interface to HDF5 files

2010-09-01 Thread Teemu Ikonen
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: phynx
  Version : 0.10.96
  Upstream Author : Darren Dale
* URL : http://github.com/darrendale/phynx
* License : BSD
  Programming Lang: Python
Description : High-level Python interface to HDF5 files

Phynx is a high-level interface to HDF5 files, using the h5py bindings to
the the HDF5 library. HDF5 is an open-source binary format designed for
scientific data. The structure of an HDF5 file is analogous to a file
system, where you can designate an hierarchy of groups (directories) and
datasets (files) to describe data of arbitrary complexity.

Phynx offers an extensible, object-oriented interface designed to provide
an easy, intuitive way to access and work with data stored in HDF5 files,
whether you are an application developer or working with your own data in
a script or the IPython interactive interpreter. The preliminary focus of
Phynx classes is to describe the multifaceted data produced at synchrotron
an neutron facilities, but phynx can be used to provide rich interfaces to
all kinds of data. Its organization is inspired in part by the NeXus
format. The NeXus project has the ambitious goal of providing a standard
file hierarchy and component specification, to bridge the gap between
experimental and theoretical research initiatives and improve our ability
to share data. Phynx is designed to provide an interface that takes
advantage of the power and expressiveness of the Python language, the full
capability of the HDF5 standard, and support for the standard NeXus
hierarchy and instrument definition, if so desired.

Bug#590049: nxjc in livecd

2010-09-01 Thread Robert Spiteri
Ok Chris, thanks for the reply. Yes at the moment I included the lejos
binaries in the live cd without the deb package, however it could be great
havin a deb package.

Keep up the good work and thanks for your time in this.

On 1 September 2010 13:50, Chris Baines cbain...@gmail.com wrote:

 Hi Robert,

That sounds really good, sorry for the late reply, I have been away form
the computer for the last week, I have the beginnings of a package, but have
been unable to work on it for the last few weeks.

 Chris

 Dear Sir,

Is there a .deb package for me to try? Or maybe I can help with one?

 Thanks

The package is in quite interesting state for new maintainers since it

I intend to orphan the soci package. There was a chance that Bradley
Smith was going to take on the package and he has uploaded an updated
version to experimental. However, neither Bradley nor myself are using
soci directly anymore, so I'm orphaning the package.

The package description is:
Database access library for C++ that makes the illusion of
embedding SQL queries in the regular C++ code, staying entirely
 within Standard C++.
 .
This package provides the shared library.

Other packages:
Package: soci
Binary: libsoci-core-gcc, libsoci-core-gcc-dev, libsoci-core-gcc-dbg,

Vcs-Browser: http://soci.cvs.sourceforge.net/soci/
Vcs-Cvs: :pserver:anonym...@soci.cvs.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/soci soci

If the package remains orphaned at the end of this month (March 09),
I'll migrate it to Maintainer: QA. If it is still orphaned at the start of
the Squeeze release freeze, I'll seek removal from Debian. (Upstream is
quiet but not completely dead.)

This icon theme for Gnome provides monochromatic icons for panels, toolbars
and buttons and colourful squared icons for devices, applications, folder,
 files and menu items.

Does it provide complete freedesktop.org coverage?

What do you mean? I'm using it and the only icon that lacks is the one

There's a list of standard icon names at

If the icon theme miss icons, they'll be inherited from another theme,
or default will be use. Depending on the coverage of the theme, it can
give a really inconsistent desktop. There's no “maximum” numbers of
icons a theme can provide, but a nice minimum is the freedesktop.org
standard (see for example Tango and Oxygen themes).

standard (see for example Tango and Oxygen themes).

Before I packaged this theme, I asked the author to add
Iceweasel/Icedove icons before I even start packaging it for Debian,
with 0.7 release he added these icons and many others.

I believe it doesn't miss a lot of icons, it's quite contrary. Also,
it's worth noting that this theme may not be mature as Tango and/or
Oxygen, but it's work in progress and it should definitely be
something worth paying attention to.

For those who want to try this icon theme, package can be found here:
http://mentors.debian.net/cgi-bin/sponsor-pkglist?action=details;package=faenza-icon-theme

Besides inclusion of these icons, I was thinking of inclusion of the
gtk theme and everything else, Debian was always a superb distro, but
lacked looks if you ask me, and maybe it's time Squeeze changes this
since I believe Squeeze is one the most important Debian releases so
far.

Final look I was going for could be something like this:

Interesting. I realize you are not the upstream but do you happen to
know if there's a tool for generating proper debian packages from
these elisp repositories? Something similar to dh-make-perl --cpan
