also features kanji drawing animations for more than 6000 kanjis,
flashcard-like training, production of paper material for studying,
and extended search options for vocabulary and kanjis including
 part-of-speech and JLPT levels.

Bug#444392: Miniupnpc package in our repo

Hi to all,

Why so slow?

But I need it in Debian Sid in the nearest future.

Any progress?

Bug#612277: RFA: olsrd: optimized link-state routing daemon (unik-olsrd)

2011-02-07 Thread Holger Levsen
package: wnpp
x-debbugs-cc: olsr-...@lists.olsr.org

Hi,

now that Squeeze has been released, lets get olsrd back into Debian! (First
into sid aka unstable, then let it migrate to wheezy (which happens after ten
days in sid without serious bugs) and once it's there, we can prepare an
upload to squeeze-backports.)

I'm happy to help with that. Actually, I _prefer_ to _help_ with that and
someone else takes over maintainance. (I'm a DD and can sponsor uploads.)
Anybody can maintain a package in Debian - you don't need to be a DD nor a DM.
Some experience with maintaining software is needed though ;) Contact me if
you are interested in helping out.
(RFA is Debian lingo for request for adoption.)

So much for the rather non technical side of this.

Now for the technical points: I've cloned the git master branch and I see the
deb.patch in there. And then I forgot how this should work... Henning, can
you please enlighten me? :) Thanks already :)

(Context for those not aware: in the past the Debian package was build using
the released olsrd tarball and a debian-directory in svn on svn.debian.org.
At the end of 2000 Henning then made some changes so that its possible now to
build Debian packages directly from the git repo. This probably needs to be
polished a bit but should be the future way to maintain it.)

AIUI :-)

cheers,
Holger

How can I help them? Or how can I affect the speed of reviewing package?

Bug#543936: Take over of a package

2011-02-07 Thread Yves-Alexis Perez
Hey,

I noticed that you were interested in taking over maintainance for
gnupg-pkcs11-scd. Basically what you need is to prepare an updated
package and then submit it to mentors (see http://mentors.debian.net)

It'd be nice to have this package maintained, I've tried to play with it
to be able to use an old etoken with my gnupg keys but it doesn't really
work fine (not really investigated why, it's related to assuan
protocol).

Anyway, once you have a package ready for testing, ping here and on
mentors list to have it uploaded.

If you have more general questions about maintainership you can read the
Debian new maintainer's guide (http://www.debian.org/doc/maint-guide/)
and ask questions on the mentors list.

Regards,

Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

Hi,

I am orphaning Bacula. (I will also be orphaning the related package
bacula-doc, which has a separate upstream and Debian source tree.)

The package is in good shape, but due to a transition away from
tape-based backups, I will no longer be using it and therefore won't
have time to support it well.

The package is maintained in git and should be reasonably easy to take
over for a package of its size.

Thanks,

Here's another ping.

Seeing as squeeze is out, and the NEW queue is, as I understand it,
hundreds and hundreds of packages long right now, it would probably be
good to get CEPH into that NEW queue ASAP.

I'm a little unclear where any additional packaging changes reside, but
I've gone ahead and packaged 0.24.2 for Ubuntu, it is here:

https://code.launchpad.net/~clint-fewbar/ubuntu/natty/ceph/upstream-0.24

Note a few changes for policy v3.9.1 including removing the .la files
from the -dev libs.

Please don't get me wrong, but did you check the NEW queue? I've
uploaded ceph there[1] for more than two months. It's not processed yet,
but I hope that the backlog of the queue is going to shrink as Squeeze
is out.

Well, it's not entirely true. The exact wording[3] says [...] For
public libraries intended for use by other packages, these files
normally should not be included in the Debian package, since the
information they include is not necessary to link with the shared
library on Debian and can add unnecessary additional dependencies to
other programs or libraries. [...]. Of course please read the whole

In short, it's not 'you must remove all *.la files'; but yes, I should
remove them as well. I hope I can check your packages today and may
write an other mail.

Right, its not a must but a should. Still, this seems reason enough to
leave them out.

Since the license issue is critical, I'm going to go ahead and leave the
ubuntu package up for sponsorship so the bug is closed ASAP.

Once your packages clear the debian queue, it should be easy enough to
issue a sync request to override the -0ubuntu1 packages.

* URL : http://libjpeg-turbo.virtualgl.org/
* License : wxWindows Library License 3.1/LGPL/BSD
  Programming Lang: C
Description : an accelerated alternate libjpeg library

libjpeg-turbo is a derivative of libjpeg for x86 and x86-64 processors which
uses SIMD instructions (MMX, SSE2, etc.) to accelerate baseline JPEG
compression and decompression. libjpeg-turbo is generally 2-4x as fast as the
unmodified version of libjpeg v6b, all else being equal.

it claims API/ABI compatibility with libjpeg, so may very well be able to be a
drop-in libjpeg replacement.

libjpeg-turbo seems to be actively developed (svn commits within the last 24
hours and a pre-release within the last month). Fedora 14 has also included
libjpeg-turbo, so it's in use by another major distribution:

  http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Features/libjpeg-turbo

i might be able to help with the initial packaging, but am not really able to
commit to long-term package maintenance, hence the RFP.

live well,

Hi
I request assistance with maintaining the kradio package.
Right now I do not have a working card anymore, which makes it hard to
test it properly. I would act as the maintainer or the co-maintainer.
I am also happy to completely give up maintainership, if that is
required. I can also sponsor uploads if needed.

The package description is:
KRadio is a comfortable radio application for KDE 3.x with support for
V4L and V4L2 radio cards drivers.
 .
 KRadio currently provides
 .
   * V4L/V4L2 radio support
   * Remote control support (LIRC)
   * Alarms, sleep Countdown
   * Several GUI Controls (Docking Menu, Station Quickbar, Radio Display)
   * Recording capabilities, including MP3 and Ogg/Vorbis encoding
   * Timeshifter functionality
   * Extendable plugin architecture
 .
This package also includes a growing collection of station preset
files for many cities around the world contributed by KRadio users.
 .
As KRadio is based on an extendable plugin architecture, contributions
of new plugins (e.g. Internet Radio Streams, new cool GUIs) are welcome.

I request an adopter for the afbackup package; I'm stop using it for a
couple of month ago, and the package deserve more attention, Torsten
Werner (Co-maint) Agrees to have this RFA too.

The package description is:
This is a client-server backup system offering several workstations a
centralized backup to a special backup server. Backing up only one
computer is easily possible, too. Any streaming device can be used
for writing the data to it, usually this will be a tape
device. Writing backups is normally done sequentially: The
next
writing to tape goes to the end of the previous write no
matter where
you have restored from in the meantime

Description: library for assembly code compilation at runtime
GNU lightning is a library to aid in making portable programs that compile
assembly code at run time. It produces very fast code, making it ideal for
Just-In-Time compilers, and it abstracts over the target CPU, as it
exposes to
the clients a standardized RISC instruction set inspired by the MIPS
and SPARC
 chips.
 .
Lightning currently supports the i386, powerpc and sparc architectures.

I intend to orphan the libpkg-guide package. Once I packaged it, taking the
great doc from Junichi, I had hoped to invest time in expoling the shlibs world
and keep this package up-to-date. Interests followed a different path, so it's
just honest to declare my failure at this and hand the package to someone else.

Whoever will adopt this package should be a skilled libs guy(s) and able to keep
it updated, so that people badly maintaining libs can be pointed to this
package.

Also, it would be nice if the generated HTML pages can live somewhere under
www.d.o .

The package description is:
This guide tries to illustrate and illuminate the problems related to
library packaging to be clear to the Developers of Debian Project, to
hopefully raise the general awareness, and to fill the gap of Debian
documentation lacking in the direction of library package.

I intend to orphan the megahal package.

The package description is:
Conversation simulators are computer programs which give the appearance of
conversing with a user in natural language. Such programs are effective
because they exploit the fact that human beings tend to read much more
meaning into what is said than is actually there; we are fooled into reading
structure into chaos, and we interpret non-sequitur as valid conversation.
 .
MegaHAL differs from conversation simulators such as Eliza in that it uses
a Markov Model to learn how to hold a conversation. It is possible to
teach MegaHAL to talk about new topics, and in different languages.
 .
This package contains the megahal binary, and for your scripting
pleasure modules for perl, python and tcl.

I have no experience with maintaining nor even packaging debian software,
but given the low level of interest on this package, I think I could
be able to use it to learn the rules and understand if I can take more
tasks on me.

The package description is:
The swallow applet can eat any X11 window into the GNOME 2 panel.
The application then displays inside the panel instead of being in a
 window.
 .
Its primary goal is to allow use of dockapps with the GNOME desktop.

Bug#522935: squeeze is out, could you please bump?

2011-02-07 Thread Adam Borowski
Well, Squeeze is finally out. This means the major distraction for the DDs
is gone, they no longer have the excuse of doing something like preparing
the release instead of uploading Emerald.

It's a shame it's not present in the official repositories.

Could you please push whatever new polish you have done and send another
RFS? I'm not a DD myself but I can at least raise noise for you :p

Description : Python programs execution tracer and profiler

Lets you see your Python program's execution as a tree of function invocations,
each tree node exposing the real time, and CPU time (user/sys) of that call.

This project consists of two main components: A Python tracer that can run your
Python programs (much like cProfile and friends). A Gtk+ based GUI that can
show the trace results.

It uses a tiny auxiliary library written for it graphfile to allow append-only
writing and reading static DAG's directly from file without reading it whole
into memory at any stage.

  Version : 2.0.20
Upstream Author : Philippe Charles pgchar...@users.sourceforge.net
* URL : http://lpg.sourceforge.net/
* License : EPL-1.0
  Programming Lang: Java
Description : Java Runtime support for the LPG parser

The LALR parser generator (LPG) is a tool for developing scanners and parsers
written in Java, C++ or C. Input is specified by BNF rules. LPG supports
backtracking (to resolve ambiguity), automatic AST generation and grammar
inheritance.

Rationale for packaging this: eclipse-cdt appears to have modules depending on
this, which are currently disabled.
If it turns out that I also need the lpg-generator (written in C/C++), I will
probably put both parts into the same source package.

Note: On the upstream author I chose Philippe, because SF lists Philippe as
project manager and there did not appear to be a team mailing list.

~Niels

The rst2pdf utility (see #496864) can apparently do much better
hyphenating when the pyhyphen library is installed. In fact, rst2pdf
currently has some bugs[0] that make hyphenating break entirely unless
pyhyphen is present.

Packaging this turns out to be a nightmare, because setup.py does
horrible things[1], and I don't have enough Python-fu to tell it to
use libhyphen-dev instead of the convenience copy.

Description : module for loading modules by name

require EXPR only accepts Class/Name.pm style module names, not
Class::Name. For that, Class::Load provides load_class 'Class::Name'.

It's often useful to test whether a module can be loaded, instead of throwing
an error when it's not available. For that, Class::Load provides
try_load_class 'Class::Name'.

Finally, sometimes it is important to know whether a particular class has
been loaded. Asking %INC is an option, but that will miss inner packages and
any class for which the filename does not correspond to the package name. For
that, this module provides is_class_loaded 'Class::Name'.

Bug#444392: Miniupnpc package in our repo

2011-02-07 Thread Thomas Goirand
On 02/07/2011 08:54 PM, Boris Pek wrote:
I will upload to SID once it's approved by the
 ftp-masters in experimental!

 This is good.

Ask the ftp-masters that have the job of approving
 new packages...

Yes, I see this. But some packages are waiting
solution for 11 months. And it is a bit worrying.

Packages waiting for that much time are problematic, I don't think this
will be the case for miniupnpc.

Their list is big, you can help
them if you feel it's slow!

How can I help them? Or how can I affect the speed of reviewing package?

Get in touch, and ask, I don't really know. The main work of the
ftp-masters is reviewing copyright files, so I guess you could send them
reports about packages.

Anyway, I think you should just be patient...

Thomas

Bug#612386: O: fpm2 -- a password manager with GTK+ 2.x GUI

2011-02-07 Thread Wen-Yen Chuang
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I'm hereby orphaning the fpm2 package.

The package description is:
Figaro's Password Manager 2 (FPM2) is a program that allows you to securely
store the passwords. Passwords are encrypted with the AES-256 algorithm.
 .
If the password is for a web site, FPM2 can keep track of the URLs of your
login screens and can automatically launch your browser. In this capacity,
FPM2 acts as a kind of bookmark manager. You can teach FPM2 to launch other
applications, and optionally pass hostnames, usernames or passwords to the
 command line.
 .
FPM2 also has a password generator that can choose passwords for you.
It allows you to determine how long the password should be, and what types
of characters (lower case, upper case, numbers and symbols) should be used.
You can even have it avoid ambiguous characters such as a capital O or the
 number zero.
