  Hey

Is this GPL or GPL with exception? Because if it is a pure GPL, then
this plugin cannot be linked against eclipse/SWT since GPL and EPL are
  incompatiable.

  ~Niels

I think its pure GPL v3, should I check with the project admin about
  this issue?

  Chris

Please do; if it is a pure GPL v3 then they have to change license of
the project and that can take quite a while as they have to get it
 approved by all copyright holders.

 ~Niels

Ok, I have a response from the lead developer of the project [1].

I recently requested that the Eclipse AVR Plug-in be packaged and
included in Debian [1]. However it was brought to my attention that
Eclipse is licensed under the EPL, and this is incompatible with the
GPL, this incomparability according to wikipedia makes combined works
 unlawful to distribute [2].

 Is this correct?

INAL, but I think that this might be correct.

The AVR Plugin was already GPL when I took over from the previous
maintainer. I like the GPL so I continued with it. However I am aware
that using a GPL Plugin with Eclipse is a somewhat grey area due to
license incompatibility.

I have contemplated for some time to change the AVR plugin license to
the EPL, if only to reuse Eclipse and CDT code in the plugin (which I
can't do as long as the plugin is still GPL).

A license change should not be too difficult as I have written probably
95%+ of the code of the plugin myself. Most of the original GPL code
from the previous maintainer and from those 2 or 3 contributors have
probably been rewritten multiple times, but I would still have to check
that and also, as a courtesy, ask those contributors if they agree with
a license change.

But as I don't really work on the AVR Plugin anymore (due to time
constraints), I have not but any effort into a license change.

brgds,

Thomas

I also filed a bug in the tracker so that this issue can hopefully be
tracked and resolved [2].

We, Debian Games, request an adopter for the conquest package. If nobody
adopt the package in the 3 comming months, we'll askftp-master to remove the
package from the archive.

The package is/was maintained in the Debian Games Team, we would prefere the
new maintainer to do so.

The package description is:
Conquest is a predecessor of netrek.
 .
The object of the game is twofold. The short-range goal
is to accumulate kills by shooting down enemy players.
You get one kill point for each enemy ship shot down,
plus some extra if the enemy had kills too. The major
weapon used to shoot down ships is the photon torpedo.
 .
The long-range goal is to conquer the universe for your
team by taking every planet. You take planets by killing
off the enemy's armies via bombardment, and then beaming
your team's armies down. When all the planets have been
taken, the game ends, a new game begins, and the player
who actually took the last planet gets his/her name up
 in lights.

Later I found out that Grails 1.3.x is uncompatible with
Hibernate = 3.5. It builds just fine but is not usable.
So, now I'm waiting for Grails 1.4. BTW, on this week upstream
added support for Hibernate 3.6 but I don't know yet when Grails
1.4 could be released (maybe by the end of this year?).

Gradle and Spring 3.0 already reached unstable, so the missing
pieces to have Grails in Debian are:

 * Upload libradeox-java (or the fork prepared by Grails team).
 * Upload libhibernate3-java 3.6.
 * Reimplement a few classes providing JSON features because they are
not DFSG-compliant (infamous clause of not doing evil with software...).

Depending on the actual implementation we may want to (re-)use this for
libjabsorb-java to get it back into main.

Maybe another missing dependencies in Debian could appear with 1.4
release but after packaging Spring 3.0 and Gradle I guess that should
not bring too much work compared with what is already
 done (famous last words?).

Bug#613293: RFS: svgsalamander (updated, take 3)

2011-03-27 Thread Nicolas Dandrimont

Hi,

I have contacted upstream with my questions about svgsalamander. He
answered quickly but I took some time to get back to work.

My latest work is available in pkg-java's git repo :
git://git.debian.org/pkg-java/svgsalamander.git

I updated the package for latest upstream (svn rev. 0095). Upstream
doesn't intend to do and keep track of a formal release, so I'm keeping
the debian version simple (well, modulo the 00, but anyways...).

I removed use of the embedded batik code copy as upstream intends it for
compatibility with Java5 and older. It is still in the source so the
copyright info is still there.

I think svgsalamander should be quite ready for upload now.

Latest source is available from mentors.d.n at

contrib non-free

This is my first Java package, so I'm sure I didn't get everything
right. Off the top of my head, here are some of my thoughts:

   - The jar is being signed at build-time. Should I disable this?

I have not tried to build it; else I would have been able to answer this
myself. :P If signs automatically without requiring any interaction,
then it is not a problem (build-wise, but the signature is probably not
worth a lot then). If the build stops waiting for the user to (e.g.)
supply a password, then it is definitely not okay (since then it will
not be rebuildable on our auto-build machines).

The jar files are automatically signed by a build-time-generated
temporary key. As this seems to be pointless, I just removed it
 altogether.

   - I decided to install the javadoc at the same time as the
package. Should I split it in another package?

Yes please; javadoc tends to take up a lot more space than the jar files
themselves. You should also make the javadoc link against the system
javadoc (this requires a Build-Depends on default-jdk-doc plus the -doc
packages of any package it depends plus [for ant] a couple of link
href=/path/to/javadoc/ / in the javadoc tag).

 Done.

   - I'll put the package under team-maintainance. If I understand the
   Policy correctly, I should set:
   ---8---
   Maintainer: Debian Java Maintainers
 pkg-java-maintain...@lists.alioth.debian.org
   Uploaders: Nicolas Dandrimont nicolas.dandrim...@crans.org
   ---8---
even though I'm neither a DD nor a DM. Is that correct?

  Yes.

 Done.

So; debian/docs is empty - if the file is not needed you should remove it.

 Done.

The copyright file does not list that
  svg-core/src/main/java/com/kitfox/svg/batik/RadialGradientPaintContext.java
(and quite possibly other files) are Copyright Apache Software
  Foundation and under Apache-1.1
You should probably ping upstream about that.

I updated the copyright file with the info for
svg-core/src/main/java/com/kitfox/svg/batik/*. Those seem to have been
taken verbatim from batik, but I don't know which version. I'm pinging
upstream about this to know :
 - From which batik version those files were taken
 - If the files were modified
 - If it is at all possible to use the system batik library instead of
embedding a few source files... Which should be okay as long as the
Apache project is properly attributed as per the Apache-1.1 license.

Then there is doc/dev/GetTRDoc.pdf which says that Distribution is
unlimited but says nothing about modification. Torsten would probably
ask where the source of it is, though it looks to be a scanning of the
  paper document.

This paper is a thesis work done inside the US Naval Postdoctoral
School. Unlimited distribution is indeed allowed, but I couldn't find
any info on modifications (whether that is pertinent or not). As the
file is not installed anyway, I dropped it from the orig tarball and
 left a note in

Description : MooseFS is a fault tolerant, network distributed file

MooseFS is a fault tolerant, network distributed file system.
It spreads data over several physical servers which are visible to the user as
one resource.
For standard file operations MooseFS acts as other Unix-alike file systems:

* A hierarchical structure (directory tree)
* Stores POSIX file attributes (permissions, last access and modification
times)
* Supports special files (block and character devices, pipes and sockets)
* Symbolic links (file names pointing to target files, not necessarily on
MooseFS),
and hard links (different names of files which refer to the same data on
MooseFS)
* Access to the file system can be limited based on IP address and/or
password

Distinctive features of MooseFS are:

* High reliability (several copies of the data can be stored across
separate computers)
* Capacity is dynamically expandable by attaching new computers/disks
* Deleted files are retained for a configurable period of time (a file
system level trash bin)
* Coherent snapshots of files, even while the file is being written/accessed

Bug#619847: RFA: mp3gain -- Lossless mp3 normalizer with statistical analysis

2011-03-27 Thread Stefan Fritsch
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

Due to lack of time, I request an adopter for the mp3gain package.

The package description is:
MP3Gain analyzes and adjusts mp3 files so that they have the same volume.
MP3Gain does not just do peak normalization, as many normalizers do. Instead,
it does some statistical analysis (using the replaygain algorithm) to
determine how loud the file actually sounds to the human ear.
 .
MP3Gain can adjust the volume in a completely lossless way by modifying the
mp3 file directly, without decoding and re-encoding. This works with all mp3
players, i.e. no support for a special tag is required.
 .
MP3Gain can also add replaygain compatible (APE) or ID3v2 gain tags to
 mp3 files.

Upstream is mostly inactive.

There have been some new feature requests including patches in the BTS,
but I lack the time to properly deal with them.

I would be willing to continue as co-maintainer or to sponsor uploads by
a non-DD maintainer.

Bug#615158: Progress?

2011-03-27 Thread Michael Tautschnig
Hi Stéphane,

[...]
I've pushed a preliminary packaging to:

   http://git.debian.org/?p=pkg-ocaml-maint/packages/ocaml-cil.git

Do I need some specific permissions to be able to access that one? All I get is:

warning: remote HEAD refers to nonexistent ref, unable to checkout.

[...]
If anyone feels like continuing the work, please feel free to proceed...
but I won't dedicate much more efforts to this before months.

Somewhat complementary to your interests I mainly care about the interface to
Cil via the cilly binary. I'd be happy to help in packaging at least that bit,
if it helps.

Best regards,
Michael

Bug#619846: RFA: sam2p -- convert raster images to EPS, PDF, and other formats

2011-03-27 Thread Stefan Fritsch
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

Due to lack of time, I request an adopter for the sam2p package.

The package description is:
sam2p is a command line utility that converts many raster
(bitmap) image formats like GIF, JPG/JPEG, and PNG into
PostScript or PDF files. PS or EPS files created by sam2p are
usually not much larger than the source file.

The importance of sam2p has decreased a lot with the rise of
pdflatex. Still, it's a useful utility for creating efficient
EPS files.

Upstream has been mostly inactive for some time.

sam2p has a tendency to FTBFS with most major new gcc releases.
Therefore, the new maintainer should have some C++ knowledge
and the ability/willingness to dig into some hand-crafted build
system.

Bug#618579: Unofficial TEI repositorium already running

2011-03-27 Thread Daniel Stender
Hello people,

I've now seen (thanks to Patrick Mc Allister for the pointer) that TEI and
related packets are
already hosted on an server in Oxford: http://tei.oucs.ox.ac.uk/teideb/

That's a lot of stuff and looks like it's decently made, so would it be a good
idea to follow the
idea to get that or something similar into the official repositories, too? Is
there actually anybody
who would like to sponsor that?

Greetings,
Daniel Stender

Bug#593011: ITP: icedove-compact-header -- extension to allow message headers to be abbreviated

2011-03-27 Thread Jonathan Wiltshire
Uploaded, thanks for your work!

There's one minor change to be made next upload:

and there are a couple of trailing whitespace in debian/copyright that I
missed last time.

I'm not subscribed to -mentors at the moment; please contact me directly

I request an adopter for the libtar package.

The package description is:
libtar allows programs to create, extract and test tar archives.
It supports both the strict POSIX tar format and many of the commonly-used
 GNU extensions.

This package needs love. Upstream is gone, and the packaging is not in its
best shape. autotools usage is very fragile and probably a bit broken,
but it still builds.

Changes:
 libtar (1.2.11-7) unstable; urgency=low
 .
   * New maintainer (Closes: #526618).
   * Change source format to 3.0 (quilt), clean up Debian diff and split
 into several patches:
 * libtool.patch: Using libtool to build dynamic library;
 * autoreconf.patch: Changes needed to call autoreconf (bug 511741);
 * memleak.patch: Fix memory leaks;
 * bad_ptrtoint.patch: Document stupidity of tartype_t in libtar.c
   (bug 309945).
   * Increase Debhelper compat level to 7.
   * Use dh_autoreconf to avoid having to keep track of files to clean.
   * memleak2.patch (new): Applied instead of memleak.patch. Fix memory
leak by making th_get_pathname() return a pointer to a static buffer
instead of a pointer to a copy of a local buffer (LP: #41804).
   * Add homepage field and watch file (in case there is ever a new
 upstream release).
   * Upgrade to Standards-Version 3.9.1.

 * License         : mostly GPL, some BSD, CC-BY-SA-3.0

Description     : A real time audio synthesis programming language

SuperCollider is an environment and programming language for real time
audio synthesis and algorithmic composition. It provides an interpreted
object-oriented language which functions as a network client
to a state of the art, realtime sound synthesis server.

OK, status of the supercollider packaging. Here's what I wrote on 4th
jan (re a patch to add versioning to the soname):

The patch is in, upstream. What's happening right now is we're
preparing a 3.4.2 release, which will include this patch. (release
 candidate files are at
 http://sourceforge.net/projects/supercollider/files/Source/3.4.2/)

The neatest thing is to wait for 3.4.2 official release, then import
it to the deb-mm repo and tweak the scripts for .so.1. Should be soon!

Since then, there's been some delay in supercolliderland due to
debating garbage-collection issues in the development branch. We can
either wait more, or apply the patch downstream, in which case it
would I think be ready for others to try? What's the next step once
 we're OK with the packaging?

Since the patch is already applied upstream, and we are likely to wait
a while before 3.4.2 is out, it should be OK to apply the patch
locally to 3.4.1 for now. Please do that, and update the packaging
 accordingly.

 Ping?

OK I've had a look at this tonight. There is a scons problem, which
lintian handily discovers for me. (Hooray lintian! I think.)

The patched build script creates symlinks such as
libscsynth.so-libscsynth.so.1.0.0. However, when scons is installing,
it doesn't install a symlink but copies the file contents. Therefore
instead of one lib file and one symlink, we get two identical lib
files - and lintian correctly reports this as an error.

I've been trying to find a way to convince scons to do the right
thing. I pushed an experimental branch to the git named
scons_soversion where instead of creating a symlink and asking scons
to install it, we add a symlinking command that should run during
installation. The problem is, that scons (v1.2.0) uses python chdir()
when running commands, which jumps it straight out of the DESTDIR and
tries to install in the system /usr/lib rather than the current build
tree. So I can't find a way of getting scons to create the symlink
during the install step AND inside DESTDIR. One or the other but not
 both.

If anyone can offer suggestions I'd be grateful.
 http://git.debian.org/?p=pkg-multimedia/supercollider.git;a=shortlog;h=refs/heads/scons_soversion

It seems to me that the problem you are having is because your
debian/rules uses the --install-sandbox option instead of the
handcoded (by upstream) DESTDIR variable handling in SConstruct.

 Interesting...

I've pushed a commit to that branch that apparently solves the issue.

 Great, works here, thanks.

Someone else started the supercollider packaging (on ubuntu) and he
had reasons for going with --install-sandbox. He is bcc'ed here -
Artem please send me (or deb-mm) a mail if you have objections.

I'll merge that branch into master, and send the change upstream (for
 inclusion in 3.4.2).

Remember to include the change in master as a patch instead of
 directly modifying SConstruct!

Ping?
