Bug#555684: Generic inferencing causing FTBFS for guava-libraries

2011-06-01 Thread James Page
Hi Miguel

I took a look at FTBFS messages that you saw; it looks like differences
in the generics inferencing engine between sun-jdk and openjdk is
probably causing the issues (indeed in the offending code it would
appear that a workaround is causing this problem - see the patch for
details).

Looking at the upstream issue tracker it would appear to be directly
related to [0].

This could be awkward to fix as we might make it work for openjdk but
break it for the sun-jdk; I've pushed a patched based on [0] into the
separate branch in the git repo (fix-openjdk); this does fix the FTBFS
issue but I'm concerned about the potential regression on non-openjdk
installs.

Take a look and see what you think.

Cheers

James

Bug#628812: RFP: ttf-abattis-cantarell -- Cantarell sans font

2011-06-01 Thread Daniel Glassey
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
X-Debbugs-CC: pkg-fonts-de...@lists.alioth.debian.org

As Dave Crossland says:
The Cantarell typeface family was designed during my Masters study of
Typeface Design in the Department of Typography at the University of
Reading, England. All students' work is showcased at
typefacedesign.org

My typeface is a contemporary Humanist sans serif designed for
on-screen reading; in particular, reading web pages on an HTC Dream
mobile phone.
HTC Dream mobile phone

This device runs Google Android and therefore has a web browser
supporting the exciting new web fonts feature known as @font-face. As
my very first typeface design, the typeface has many faults, yet it
achieves the goal of improving readability on this device.

Each font file currently contains 391 glyphs, and fully support the
following writing systems: Basic Latin, Western European, Catalan,
Baltic, Turkish, Central European, Dutch and Afrikaans. To date, Pan
African Latin has only 33% glyph coverage.

Since the design was tested mainly when displayed on-screen at small
sizes, the printed output (especially of the bold and oblique) does
not work well. I hope to publish a final release that is tuned to the
needs of printing in the future.

This shortcoming highlights my motivation for undertaking a study of
typeface design: I believe it is essential that when we use digital
tools, our freedom to use, understand, modify and share these tools is
respected. Otherwise, when the tool does not work in the way that we
need, we will be unable to fix it.

These fonts were developed using only such software, mainly FontForge.
Typeface designs are tools too, so therefore these font files are
licensed in a way that respects your freedom — you are invited to
extend them to meet your needs, such as to add the glyphs missing from
your own writing systems, under the terms of the SIL Open Font Licence

Fw: Bug#593261: re-add wmi-client package

2011-06-01 Thread Daniel Leite
Hi

AS i sent to the -quiet bug, i'm attaching here my message for this bug

thanks
higuita
---BeginMessage---
hi
Please note that wmi-client is different from winexe. Upstream for
  The version at git://winexe.git.sourceforge.net/gitroot/winexe/winexe
This code doesn't have anything to do with wmi - it uses the svcctl
DCE/RPC interface (not WMI) to start an executable on the remote
machine. Merging it won't help with WMI support.

But the problem is that we dont have wmi-client in debian and
also don't have winexe, so we don't have any way to interact with a window
machine remotely.

Right now, its a mess, i and many people on debian must rely
on hand compiled packaged, that can break any day with the debian
updated/upgrades and forces the user to search thru many the dead pages
and links to find a pre-build package (that the last time i tried,
they don't work anymore in recent distros) or the source and compile
(if the user knows how).

The full wmi-client is useful, but most people can survive with
just the winexe and a few scripts on the windows side (using the WMIC
client ) for those needing WMI. Winexe is GPLv3 and can be included in
debian without any problem.

Samba4 is the final target, but i still didnt understand if they
have included the winexe patch or not... until its released, the external
winexe is what most people require.

Maybe what is needed is forgetting the wmi-client and create a
new package with the winexe. If the wmi-client change the license, we can
drop the winexe and re-add the wmi-client.

When samba4 is released, the winexe package should be checked and
will be probably removed (or start using to the samba4 code) if already
included the winexe functionality.

So my suggestion is to package the winexe from sf.net, its the
best package we have (it works and have the right license) to solve
the main issue here.

Bug#555684: Generic inferencing causing FTBFS for guava-libraries

2011-06-01 Thread Miguel Landaeta
On Wed, Jun 1, 2011 at 8:53 AM, James Page james.p...@canonical.com wrote:
Take a look and see what you think.

Hi James,

Thank you very much for taking a look at this, I even didn't have time to ask
for help in debian-java.

A priori I think your patch is correct because after disassembling the
problematic classes com.google.collections.collect.{Maps,SortedMaps}
from upstream and comparing them with the code generated with
openjdk-6-jdk in Debian, there are no differences. Although this is
after type erasure of generics.

I also built this code with sun-java6-jdk without issues.

The only thing what worries me is the comment in the code:
// Ideally, the extra type parameter C shouldn't be necessary

My hunch says let's go with the patch and monitor closely the issues
reported with upstream and openjdk6 compiler.

Cheers,

Description : Django-based Page CMS and CMS building toolkit

FeinCMS is an extremely stupid content management system. It knows
nothing about content -- just enough to create an admin interface for
your own page content types. It lets you reorder page content blocks
using a drag-drop interface, and you can add as many content blocks
to a region (f.e. the sidebar, the main content region or something
else). It provides helper functions, which provide ordered lists of
page content blocks.

FainCMS is dependent on python module 'mptt' which is not in Debian archive.
I am going to file an ITP for that package, too.

  Description : drawbar organ simulator

This JACK program is a port of the free VST plugin AZR-3. It is a tonewheel
organ with drawbars, distortion and rotating speakers. The original was
 written by Rumpelrausch Täips.
 .
The organ has three sections, two polyphonic with 9 drawbars each and one
monophonic bass section with 5 drawbars. The two polyphonic sections respond
to events on MIDI channel 1 and 2, and an optional keyboard split function
makes the bass section listen to the lower keys on channel 1.
 .
The three sections have separate sustain and percussion switches as well as
separate volume controls, and the two polyphonic sections have separate
vibrato settings. All three sections are mixed and sent through the
distortion effect and the rotating speakers simulator, where the modulation
wheel can be used to switch between fast and slow rotation, and the fast
and slow rotation speeds themselves can be changed separately for the lower
 and upper frequencies.

would you be willing to adopt rapidsvn as well? It is also orphaned

I would like to do it. But because of the time I feel fearful to adopt this
package. Bu I will take the risk.

I could be your sponsor for rapidsvn (or just use debian-mentors)...

Thanks
