Bug#661106: RFH: scim -- smart common input method platform
Package: wnpp Severity: normal I request assistance with maintaining the scim package. scim comprises software to input complex characters in non-latin languages such as Chinese Hanzi, Japanese Kanji or Korean Hangul and others. It enjoys widespread and growing use. scim is scheduled to be eventually obsoleted by ibus. scim still has five times the user base and that base in Debian is actually still growing faster than that of ibus. Developer interest in scim has mostly faded away both in Debian and upstream. My goal as maintainer is to keep the package usable for the benefits of its users. That means making sure the package is free of RC bugs, adheres to policy and submitted patches are eventually integrated. It does not include original development and repeated calls for it in the past were simply misguided. My co-maintainer requested to step down and I thank him for his support in the past. Because of my limited time and skills I prefer to maintain most of my packages in a team of at least two and thus would call for an interested individual to step forward to fill the gap. Any area that you can help would be appreciated and I would also be willing to do some limited mentorship for someone getting their feet wet in packaging software. I understand packaging reasonably well but I'm not a good coder, somebody with complimentary skillset would be the perfect match. The packaging work is published in http://git.debian.org/?p=collab-maint/scim.git The package description is: Smart Common Input Method (SCIM) is an input method (IM) platform. Input methods are needed to enter complex characters in many non-latin languages. SCIM provides a common platform for various plugin modules and independent IM programs, as well as a set of modules and programs on its own. It is highly modularized and exposes abstract interfaces, so that plugin modules with different functions can easily communicate with each other. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-wnpp-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#661110: RFH: isdnutils -- ISDN utilities
Package: wnpp Severity: normal (I hope reportbug will actually do the right thing, despite incorrectly claiming that isdnutils package did not exist) I am requesting assistance to maintain isdnutils in Debian. The main use case would be faxing, I assume. That's what I use the package for. But others may still use it for dialing in to the internet or telephony applications. The user base is still sizeable even after years of neglect. The package is still fairly ugly, there's still lots of work needed to be done. I'm slowly moving ahead. I do have a co-maintainer who is active in upstream work as well. But his time is very limited. Upstream has recently sprung back into life, let's hope for the best. Ideally, I'm looking for someone who can help me with code-related questions. I'd be willing to share what I know about packaging if you're new to that. The packaging is published at http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=collab-maint/isdnutils.git If you want to push your changes, that would be very welcome, but please use a branch first. I found different email addresses for both committers and forwarded my message to those addresses. I'm forwarding David Huggins-Daines' reply here: Forwarded message Hi! Thomas Breuel wrote the original code for the most part. I don't recall if I added the Apache copyright notices to my parts of the code and can't look at the moment. Datum: Wed, 15 Feb 2012 20:31:30 +0100 Hi, and thank you for your work on pyopenfst! Debian maintainers and contributors would really like to package pyopenfst for Debian, but unfortunately, there doesn't seem enough copyright and license information available to fulfil Debian guidelines. pyopenfst's project homepage on Google Code states that the code is licensed under the Apache License 2.0, and we've found your email addresses in the list of committers, but please help us by stating copyright and license information clearly by adding a note to the code. There's an appendix to the Apache License 2.0 on how to do it: http://www.apache.org/licenses/LICENSE-2.0#apply Also see http://code.google.com/p/pyopenfst/issues/detail?id=6 and http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=579401 Kind regards Bernhard Reiter -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-wnpp-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. On Wednesday 22 February 2012, David Paleino wrote: 2012/2/22 David Boddie da...@boddie.org.uk: If I remember correctly, the .dat files in the LDraw parts library are basically text files, so they are the sources, but I could be mistaken. Does this help to clarify the matter, or are we discussing other files as well? I don't really remember the issue with the pieces library, but being text files doesn't automatically equal to being the source code. I need the preferred form of modification, and I need to be able to build it. OK. Well, I didn't know what the context was when I was unexpectedly copied into this discussion, and it's been quite a while since I've looked at LDraw. My understanding is that the .dat files are the preferred form of modification even though the maintainers may use tools that save and load files in other formats. I don't know anything about the library maintenance process to be able to say if the .dat files are generated from something else. Checking now, it seems that the parts library described at http://www.ldraw.org/Downloads-req-viewdownloaddetails-lid-98.html is not redistributable because it contains non-redistributable parts. Issues with the parts library include: 1. Licenses: a. Creative Commons Attribution 2.0. I don't know how this fits into any of the Debian policies. b. All rights reserved. It seems that you would have to ask the copyright holders of those parts to choose a license, or just avoid distributing those parts. 2. Binaries in the archive. a. A Windows executable file. b. Three ZIP files containing source code, with some files licensed under the GPL v2 or later, and other files with no licenses. 3. No build system for the platform-independent tool required to create the parts list. It should be straightforward to find all the CC parts, simply by using grep to find the ones with the appropriate !LICENSE statement. Bug#656903: RFP: desurium -- Desura is a gaming client that allows a user to one click download and install games and game modification.
Hi, I just had a look at the upstream source and I think getting Desurium into Debian isn't that trivial. The problem is that Desurium is built with a lot of third party applications and libraries in tree. It includes boost, wxWidgets, curl among others and expects them to reside in src/third_party in the source tree in order to build properly. However, since most of these packages are already part of Debian, the build script of Desurium will have to be patched in order to use the existing versions in Debian. It is not desirable to have redundant packages in Debian. Adrian -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-wnpp-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#585480: [uae] Does anybody run PUAE on Debian Lenny?
Hi, Currently it does not build on amd64 , so I put it on hold but if any one is interested for co-maintainance, I can try building on amd64 when I manage to take time for it. Might take some time tough. I just checked out the latest source from git and used the supplied debian directory to build the package with debuild on my wheezy/amd64 machine, the build finished without any problems and the emulator seems to run fine. So, I guess the problem has been fixed if it has ever been a problem with p-uae itself. As for the included debian directory, the upstream source should probably be stripped from it since the debhelper version used is deprecated anyway (uses the old debian/rules file) and the old source format. Also, usually the upstream source shouldn't include the debian stuff but this should be taken care of by the Debian maintainer(s) of the package. I recommend creating an orig tarball from the git repository, stripped from the debian directory (and maybe other stuff which is not compliant with the dfsg), then starting the debianization from scratch using the current debhelper version and source format. We still can reuse some of the files provided in the upstream debian directory however. Regards, Adrian -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-wnpp-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#661208: ITP: mtbl -- immutable sorted string table library
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist Owner: Robert S. Edmonds edmo...@debian.org * Package name: mtbl Version : 0.1 Upstream Author : Internet Systems Consortium, Inc. * URL : https://github.com/edmonds/mtbl * License : ISC, BSD-3-Clause, Apache-2.0 Programming Lang: C Description : immutable sorted string table library mtbl is a C library implementation of the Sorted String Table (SSTable) data structure, based on the SSTable implementation in the open source Google LevelDB library. An SSTable is a file containing an immutable mapping of keys to values. Keys are stored in sorted order, with an index at the end of the file allowing keys to be located quickly. . mtbl is not a database library. It does not provide an updateable key-value data store, but rather exposes primitives for creating, searching and merging SSTable files. Unlike databases which use the SSTable data structure internally as part of their data store, management of SSTable files -- creation, merging, deletion, combining of search results from multiple SSTables -- is left to the discretion of the mtbl library user. -- Robert Edmonds edmo...@debian.org signature.asc Description: Digital signature
