Bug#737602: ITP: rpmlint -- RPM package checker
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist Owner: Arturo Borrero Gonzalez arturo.borrero.g...@gmail.com * Package name: rpmlint Version : 1.5 Upstream Author : Ville Skyttä ville.sky...@iki.fi * URL : http://sourceforge.net/p/rpmlint/ * License : GPL-2 Programming Lang: Python Description : RPM package checker rpmlint is a tool for checking common errors in rpm packages. rpmlint can be used to test individual packages before uploading or to check an entire distribution. By default all applicable checks are performed but specific checks can be performed by using command line parameters. rpmlint can check binary rpms (files and installed ones), source rpms, and plain specfiles, but all checks do not apply to all argument types. For best check coverage, run rpmlint on source rpms instead of plain specfiles, and installed binary rpms instead of uninstalled binary rpm files. The idea for rpmlint is from the lintian tool of the Debian project. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-wnpp-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? But if someone wants, as Lorenzo suggested, an apt-get install ffmpeg to magically switch all applications like VLC from using libav to ffmpeg, then one of the requirements for that would clearly be that there would have to be two versions of all binaries and libraries using libav/ffmpeg in the archive - one compiled with libav, and one compiled with ffmpeg. I reread Lorenzo's email, and it doesn't actually say switch all applications like VLC from libav to ffmpeg. He just said: users should be able to do apt-get install ffmpeg or apr-get install libav I think some people here are talking about using ffmpeg as a commandline-based conversion tool, not necessarily the way you are bringing up, as a library that (say) vlc is linking against. That's what I meant in my message. I'm referrig to ffmpeg vs. avconv - I should probably have written: apt-get install libav-tools to make it more clear. Before what you quote he said in the same email: Agree with many on at least providing the *option* for users to have the original ffmpeg instead of libav There is no libav program, and he is clearly talking about the libraries. Actually I meant the binary. I guess lots of the confusion (at least from a users' point of view) comes from the fact that the description of the ffmpeg package states: Libav is a complete, cross-platform solution to decode, encode, record, convert and stream audio and video. This package contains the deprecated ffmpeg program. This package also serves as a transitional package to libav-tools. Users are advised to use avconv from the libav-tools package instead of ffmpeg. Homepage: http://libav.org/ Without getting into the politics of it... I think this is at least confusing for many user. [...] The ffmpeg/libav commandline programs are relatively rarely used - what is used heavily on Linux are the libraries. Do you have any data to support such claim? I personally use ffmpeg commandline tool quite a lot. Clearly being one person I'm not a representative sample but would be interesting to know if some sort of survey/statistics could be produced. Bug#737631: ITP: php-analog -- PHP micro logging package
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist Owner: Francois-Regis Vuillemin frv-deb...@miradou.com * Package name: php-analog Version : 1.0.4 Upstream Author : Johnny Broadway jproad...@jj.com * URL : https://github.com/jbroadway/analog * License : (MIT) Programming Lang: php Description : PHP micro logging package A MicroPHP logging package based on the idea of using closures for configurability and extensibility. It functions as a static class, but you can completely control the writing of log messages through a closure function (aka anonymous functions) . Analog also comes with over a dozen pre-written handlers in the Analog/Handlers folder, with examples for each in the examples folder. These include: . - Amon - Send logs to the Amon server monitoring tool - Buffer - Buffer messages to send all at once (works with File, Mail, Stderr, and Variable handlers) - ChromeLogger - Sends messages to Chrome Logger browser plugin - File - Append messages to a file - FirePHP - Send messages to FirePHP browser plugin - GELF - Send message to the Graylog2 log management server - LevelBuffer - Buffer messages and send only if sufficient error level reached - Mail - Send email notices - Mongo - Save to MongoDB collection - Multi - Send different log levels to different handlers - Null - Do nothing - Post - Send messages over HTTP POST to another machine - Stderr - Send messages to STDERR - Syslog - Send messages to syslog - Threshold - Only writes log messages above a certain threshold - Variable - Buffer messages to a variable reference. . So while it's a micro class, it's highly extensible and very capable out of the box too. This piece of software is embeded into package galette, so as of debian policy 4.13, it should be packaged separately. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-wnpp-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#737643: RFA: wxsqlite3
Package: wnpp Severity: normal Hi, Due to lack of time and interest I intend to orphan wxsqlite3 soon. The upstream mantainer is active and his approach has always been collaborative. The packaging is in a good shape, and I'd be positive to sponsor future uploads. An excerpt from the package's description follows: SQLite3 C++ wrapper for use in programs based on the wxWidgets wxSQLite3 is a C++ wrapper around the public domain SQLite 3.x database and is specifically designed for use in programs based on the wxWidgets 2.8 library. . wxSQLite3 does not try to hide the underlying database, in contrary almost all special features of the current SQLite3 version 3.7.4 are supported, like for example the creation of user defined scalar or aggregate functions. Without it, Apache would block any Outlook Anywhere requests for reasons documented very well in https://issues.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=40029. Outlook and Exchange use an extended version of DCE RPC called MSRPC to communicate with each other. When Outlook Anywhere is in use, the MSRPC messages are wrapped into HTTP alike requests and responses. The mod_proxy_msrpc module detects these MSRPC messages and forwards it to the server or client as needed. As soon as the initial handshake completed, i.e. Exchange accepted the connecting client, the mod_proxy_msrpc module switches into tunnel mode and forwards all data from client to server and vice versa. ---End Message--- ---BeginMessage--- Source: mod-proxy-msrpc Source-Version: 0.4-1 We believe that the bug you reported is fixed in the latest version of mod-proxy-msrpc, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive. Socket.IO enables real-time web communications between a browser and a server, using a WebSocket-like API. One aim of this project is to provide a single gevent-based API that works across the different WSGI-based web frameworks out there (Pyramid, Pylons, Flask, web2py, Django, etc...). Bug#737637: ITP: haskell-pipes -- Compositional pipelines
Thanks for pointing out that `pipes` was already packaged. I just went by the Hackage page showing distro support and didn't see Debian listed, but I should have double-checked. Sorry about that. `pipes-zlib` can be fixed with a simple patch on the upper bound. This has already been fixed in the `master` branch of `pipes-zlib` [0]. I don't know when Renzo plans to upload the latest `pipes-zlib` to Hackage but I've copied him on this. The threaded options for the `pipes` test suite are unnecessary. The tests were written up by somebody else and I don't know why they included those options; the tests run just fine without them. I fixed this in the `master` branch of `pipes` [1] and I can optionally upload a `pipes-4.1.1` release with those options removed. if it's not urgent and you can patch it for Debian, I'd prefer to wait a month before uploading a new release to Hackage. However, if you prefer to patch upstream then I will upload it. Regardless of the status of concurrent.futures, there is an issue of consistency with the 'python-future' package name. There is already a 'future' package for python [1, 2], and the naming convention established in the Debian Python policy [3] would make users expect this package be available as 'python-future'. Bug#737696: ITP: mpria -- multi-precision rational interval arithmetic library
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist Owner: Jerome Benoit calcu...@rezozer.net * Package name: mpria Upstream Author : Jerome Benoit jgmben...@rezozer.net * URL : http://www.gnu.org/software/mpria/ * License : GPL Programming Lang: C Description : multi-precision rational interval arithmetic library GNU MPRIA is a mathematical C library for rational interval arithmetic computations with arbitrary precision. The basic principle of rational interval arithmetic consists in enclosing every number by a rational interval containing it: each number is stored as its lower and upper endpoints and these bounds are rational numbers; their absolute difference measures the precision. The purpose is on the right hand to obtain guaranteed results, thanks to interval computation, and on the left hand to compute accurate results, thanks to arbitrary precision arithmetic. The arithmetic operations are extended for interval operands in such a way that the exact result of the operation belongs to the computed rational interval. The GNU MPRIA library is built upon the GNU MP library for operating on rational numbers. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-wnpp-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? In Debian, there is no use of Python 3.1 support anymore, and only 2.7, and to some extend 2.6 (for backports), is useful. ---End Message--- ---BeginMessage--- On 02/05/2014 06:29 AM, Javier Candeira wrote: Regardless of the status of concurrent.futures, there is an issue of consistency with the 'python-future' package name. There is already a 'future' package for python [1, 2], and the naming convention established in the Debian Python policy [3] would make users expect this package be available as 'python-future'. We shouldn't do a mistake between: https://pypi.python.org/pypi/future and https://pypi.python.org/pypi/futures (notice the last char...) By the way, what I needed was futures (with s at the end), which is part of concurrent.futures. So this ITP can be closed. Cheers, Thomas---End Message---

But not exactly sure whether pkg-multimedia would want to collaborate... Considering the history of the libav/ffmpeg split it is very unlikely that they would. No matter what you do, for bringing the ffmpeg libraries back into Debian you will likely at some point need to have the opinion of pkg-multimedia overridden by either the TC or a GR. One of the proposals on the table is to bring back ffmpeg, at least as a program, possibly as a library. You seem to be saying that is insane, ... I would appreciate if you would in the future refrain from wrongly claiming that I said something, when I did in fact state the opposite: -- snip -- If all you expect to happen after apt-get install ffmpeg is that there is an ffmpeg binary that is using the ffmpeg libraries, then this might be doable. -- snip -- I am refering to your position which you restate below No. What you were claiming was that I would have called it insane bringing back ffmpeg *at least as a program*. This claim is false. The value of having only the ffmpeg programs without the libraries would be very limited. And it is clear that any statement ffmpeg is back in Debian would be considered a bad joke by most people interested in libav and/or ffmpeg if it would turn out that only the programs would be in Debian and not the libraries. But contrary to what you were claiming, the word I used was not insane, I said it would be doable. Insane would be attempting to have both the libav and the ffmpeg libraries in Debian in parallel. ... What's your proposal to fix the problems with libav mentionned in this thread? What's your response to the claims that ffmpeg is a superset of libav and that libav is lagging in development? If ffmpeg is technically superior and compatible with libav, why shouldn't we package it? All I am saying is that suggestiong along the lines of having both the libav and ffmpeg libraries and then switching between them through apt-get install is insane. I do not see any answer to the technical questions I have asked above. ... There is no point in a technical discussion between you and me whether libav or ffmpeg is better - even if I'd agree that wouldn't change anything. If you think ffmpeg is superior to libav and should therefore be shipped in jessie instead of libav, you have to discuss that with the Debian multimedia maintainers. And if you don't come to an agreement with them, the Debian Constitution describes in detail your options for having their decision overridden. The only thing I am saying is that having both libraries in the archive would not be a reasonable option for the reasons I've already explained. cu Adrian -- Is there not promise of rain? As far as I understand it the problem is that it is *not* a drop-in replacement as far as the libraries are concerned, every package needs to be recompiled depending on which library should be used. So you would need two different packages for every program that uses the libraries if you wanted to offer both in parallel. And I don't think Adrian (or anyone else) is against ffmpeg as such, it's just that there should be made a decision which one to use in order to avoid these issues. It's not as bad as you think. FFmpeg has a --enable-libav-incompatible-abi configure option. Didn't test the effectiveness of it though. This makes some functions that have different signatures in libav and ffmpeg API-compatible with libav by switching them to the libav one. It does not change the sonames of the ffmpeg libraries. cu Adrian -- Is there not promise of rain? Ling Tan asked suddenly out of the darkness. There had been need of rain for many days.
