Bug#617296: Any Progress with RStudio?

2014-08-14 Thread Andreas Tille
Hi,

any news about rstudio packaging? Something we could drain from
${VCS}.debian.org for testing?

Kind regards

   Andreas.

  I am semi-regularly IM'ing or emailing with the RStudio founder whom I'll
  meet tomorrow. I also have pretty good contacts with a number of other
  RStudio developers and engineers.

 That's great. I would love to know what to do about RStudio to convince it
 to (while building) to use some off-the-tree packages like hunspell, mathjax
 and possibly others.

  You want to look at the current dev packages, eg (in binary)
http://rstudio.org/download/daily/
  which, inter alia, contain a very cooked-up local build of pandoc to be able
  to get the very, very latest pandoc binary without any depends.

 Thanks. Somehow I missed that directory.

  I am not sure how ready this is even for Debian unstable, and they _do_

 You probably meant experimental here?

  provide ready-made .deb packages that users like myself deploy.

 I installed and started using rstudio and I have never been so impressed
 with an IDE like this in ages. There are so many goodies with it that it
 would be a real pity to not have it in Debian.

 That being said, I don't think that the FTP masters would let us upload
 something that duplicates a lot of stuff, but that shouldn't prevent us (or
 the interested parties) from working on the package and start solving the
 small problems (like those that I mentioned before), detecting unpackaged
 dependencies (e.g., knitr and possibly many others) etc.

  I can ask tomorrow, but RStudio is still a pretty fast moving target.

 Thanks. It would be nice to know if they are moving from Qt4 to Qt5 in the
 short time or not. Also, if they would like to see RStudio packaged
 independently from them.

 And there are probably other smaller issues like linking rstudio with
 openssl, given that rstudio is licensed under the agplv3 and I didn't see
 any licensing exception while skimming the sources (but it may be there).

 Thanks,

Bug#538067: status of the OpenCPN package?

So you are free to commit there (or even move this to Git which is as
far as I know a migration path Debian GIS has agreed upon). The offer
for sponsering the package from my side stays valid for any team member.
Some hintes what I consider worth changing to the packaging are in the
log of the bug report.

What about our (in terms of a team) patches? I wonder why you come up
with the idea of applying own patches. I have addressed some
issues[1] in the packaging which are not addressed since 1 year as far
as I can see and without testing the package should generate several
lintian warnings. This is plain Debian packaging stuff and IMHO it
would be rather sensible if people who are admitting to have no time
would give people free hands to work on such open issues. If something
might happen against your intention (you have proven an impressively
quick response time with your current answer) it is quite simple to
revert.

I understand working in a team that anybody can bring things forward. I
consider it bad leading if you stop people from working in advance
instead of inspecting their commits and tweak (rewert?) if needed. Your
lose / win terminology implies a conflict / fight which I fail to see
and my experience has shown that it brings things forward if you
encourage people to do something.

Kind regards

 Andreas.

Bug#758087: ITP: python-xstatic-jasmine -- Jasmine JS XStatic support

2014-08-14 Thread Thomas Goirand
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Thomas Goirand z...@debian.org

* Package name: python-xstatic-jasmine
  Version : 1.3.1.1
  Upstream Author : Radomir Dopieralski openst...@sheep.art.pl
* URL : https://github.com/stackforge/xstatic-jasmine
* License : Expat
  Programming Lang: Python
  Description : Jasmine JS XStatic support

 XStatic is a packaging standard to package external (often 3rd party) static
 files as a Python package, so they are easily usable on all operating systems,
 with any package management system or even without one.
 .
 Many Python projects need to use some specific data files, like javascript,
 css, java applets, images, etc. Sometimes these files belong to YOUR project
 (then you may want to package them separately, but you could also just put
 them into your main package). But in many other cases, those files are
 maintained by someone else (like jQuery javascript library or even much bigger
 js libraries or applications) and you definitely do not really want to merge
 them into your project. So, you want to have static file packages, but you
 don’t want to get lots of stuff you do not want. Thus, stuff required by
 XStatic file packages (especially the main, toplevel XStatic package) tries to
 obey to be a MINIMAL, no-fat thing. XStatic doesn't sell any web framework
 or other stuff you don't want. Maybe there will be optional XStatic extensions
 for all sorts of stuff, but they won't be required if you just want the files.
 .
 By having static files in packages, it is also easier to build virtual envs,
 support linux/bsd/... distribution package maintainers and even windows
 installs using the same mechanism.
 .
 This package provides Jasmine JS support as a Python module.

Hi Alastair,

We still haven't started with source packages - but the code is all at
github now - so you can definitely play around with what we've got.

  https://github.com/irods/irods

We are still moving stuff around quite a bit in the run up to 4.0 in
March (we're on 4.0.0b1 right now), but I think after that, we will be a
better candidate for getting into Debian upstream.

Any help / assistance you want to provide would be great. I've not
packaged anything for upstream before, so I look forward to working
together to make it a reality.

Thanks,

2014-08-14 Thread Andrey Rahmatullin
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I'm no longer using hg-fast-export and in the future I will probably use git-
remote-hg (already in the archive) for such tasks.

The upstream git tree is at git://repo.or.cz/fast-export.git and
debian/{,README.}git-hg are taken from https://github.com/cosmin/git-hg

 .
   * New upstream version implementing all the stuff that I used to put in
 the build fix patch. This patch is now removed.
 .
   * This version clears the way to Debian as upstream has removed the
 sentence in LibMathematics/NumericalAnalysis/Wm5EigenDecomposition.cpp
 that could lead to think that there might be copyright issues with the
 code (thanks to Thorsten Alteholz ftpmas...@ftp-master.debian.org
 for spotting it). The author has commented about the sentence, removed
 it and fixed any potential issue by rewriting parts of the code (more
 details in private mail). This is an excerpt from a private mail:
 .
That sentence is badly worded. It should have said: TODO: This is
 a modified version of code from Numerical recipes in C that should not
 violate the copyright agreement. Regardless, rewrite the code to avoid
 any potential copyright issues.
 .
   * Reminder to (Closes: #736536) the bug.

Bug#753012: ITP: vagrant-libvirt -- Vagrant provider for libvirt

2014-08-14 Thread Antonio Terceiro
Hi,

 I pushed my packaging to
 git://anonscm.debian.org/pkg-ruby-extras/vagrant-libvirt.git.

 This is not ready because:

 * It needs to be tested with vagrant = 1.5. (see #741478).
 * Support for vagrant plugin is needed in Debian. (see #740165).

 I based my work on what Antonio Terceiro did for vagrant-lxc, so I'm
 CCing him in case he wants to add a comment about this.

A heads up:

I recently uploaded vagrant with the patch supporting Debian plugins,
but it turned out to break installing plugins via vagrant itself
(#758033), so I had to revert that and reopen the original bug for
Debian-provided plugins (#740165).

I will have to figure out a different way of providing plugins via
debian packages that does not break the standard one.

Bug#758135: ITP: python-pymemcache -- comprehensive, fast, pure Python memcached client

2014-08-14 Thread Thomas Goirand
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Thomas Goirand z...@debian.org

* Package name: python-pymemcache
  Version : 1.2.4
  Upstream Author : Charles Gordon char...@pinterest.com
* URL : https://github.com/pinterest/pymemcache
* License : Apache-2.0
  Programming Lang: Python
  Description : comprehensive, fast, pure Python memcached client

 Pymemcache is a comprehensive, fast, pure-Python memcached client. It supports
 the following features:
  * Complete implementation of the memcached text protocol.
  * Configurable timeouts for socket connect and send/recv calls.
  * Access to the noreply flag, which can significantly increase the speed
  * of
writes.
  * Flexible, simple approach to serialization and deserialization.
  * The (optional) ability to treat network and memcached errors as cache
misses.

This is a dependency of python-tooz, which itself is now one of the Python
dependencies for OpenStack. Note that, to the contrary of python-memcache,
this package works with Python 3.

Bug#754120: ITP: python-gnupg-ng -- A Python wrapper for GnuPG

2014-08-14 Thread micah anderson

 Why exactly should shell=True be necessary?

It turns out that shell=True (basically what started the fork) is not
needed now. Vinay changed it in the latest release of the original
python gnupg, which came after a bunch of CVEs and some comments in this
thread as a result of python-gnupg-ng:
http://seclists.org/oss-sec/2014/q1/303

The original reason for doing shell=True is/was commented on
python-gnupg (original) code: without that, it didn't work in windows.

So while it is true that Shell=True is not needed, python-gnupg-ng has
other advantages: its more community based (it has a bugtracker and
public repo, to begin with), the code has diverged from the original a
bit in adding various gnupg functionality to the module, re-reading of
the original having security and documentation in minde and improving
the overall code quality.

I'd argue that including this in Debian is a win because this one has:

 * Better gnupg options parsing
 * Better code structure.
 * Better documentation.
 * Open repo and bugtracker.

Also - we have a package ready to upload for it.

Description : Maven plugin to replace tokens in a given file with a value

This plugin is typically used to change database or network configuration
within a
project during a maven build. It also can perform some advanced text replacement
functions, such as providing a separate token/value file to keep your build
script
concise, writing resulting text after replacement to a separate file and token
matching with regular expressions. There is even support for making exact
document
node replacements via X-Path.

I intend to orphan the openhackware package. Ideally Aurelien or the QEMU
team should take preference over the adoption, if they so desire.

The package description is:
 OpenHackWare is an OpenFirmware emulator intended to be used on PowerPC
 machines. It is not a real OpenFirmware as it knows nothing about Forth.
 It emulates the OpenFirmware boot time interface as well as the RTAS
 interface. It also emulates some known interpret strings, to make it
 able to launch known OSes.
