Control: Block -1 by 884697

(Adding Block There is currently a RFS on mentors for adoption of the
package, but filed before the orphaning.)

I'm considering to be available as Co-Maintainer, but when Christian
passes on maintaince, I might consider take it as maintainer (but
for sure within a team)

Bug#877849: [tryton-debian] Namespace conflict for python-magic

2018-01-14 Thread Adam Hupp
Whew, I was worried for a moment :) I've pushed an update to the
branch (note: will require a force pull if you already have a
checkout).

https://github.com/ahupp/python-magic/tree/libmagic-compat

Changes:
- disable the deprecation warning. this wouldn't actually show
anything by default unless you run python with the warning enabled
(-Wd), but until there's a clear plan for the future of this package
it seems premature to declare deprecation.
- fix the lack of `package` entry in setup.py
- various typos in the README
- fix the libmagic test under python3. this is actually a bug in the
libmagic python bindings but I'd rather not make changes there.

Bug#881297: Notes on how karaf starts and what dependencies are needed

2018-01-14 Thread Steinar Bang
 1. Karaf boots from a small kernel and the rest are pulled in, and
started, using maven. Maven initially looks to a maven repository
in the karaf distro (the "system" repository), if it doesn't find
what it looks for there, it moves on to maven central and a couple
of other maven repositories (the list of repositores can be modified
at runtime, using commands in the karaf console)

 2. Karaf is started by the karaf script

https://github.com/apache/karaf/blob/master/assemblies/features/base/src/main/filtered-resources/resources/bin/karaf

 3. The script uses environment variables that could be set from the
outside (e.g. in a systemd control file or a sysv init script) to
make karaf use other directories:
 KARAF_ETC
 KARAF_DATA
 KARAF_HOME
there used to be a point in setting the KARAF_LOG directory as well
(in my own debian package I had it set to /var/log/karaf in the
4.0.x series of karaf), but logging is now handled by the pax
logging JUL (which I guess is "java.util.logging") handler, and in
debian with openjdk ends up in /var/log/syslog and KARAF_LOG is no
longer used in the karaf script
Suggested values for the environment variables:
 KARAF_HOME=/usr/share/karaf (or maybe /usr/share/java/karaf ?)
  - This is where the scripts should end up
  - The lib subdirectory is where the OSGi runtime finds its jar
files
  - The lib/boot directory is where the OSGi runtime boots from
- Could the jar files here be symlinks to jars installed by
  other debian packages?
  - This is also where the deploy directory is expected to be (the
directory where bundles can be dropped to be installed as
plugins)
 KARAF_ETC=/etc/karaf
  - This is where the config files are
  - A problem: This directory will be written to and some files
modified on each karaf start/stop. Their md5 sum will not change
unless the config is changed, but their date will be changed
 KARAF_DATA=/var/lib/karaf
  - Will contain the persistent osgi runtime information (cached
bundles and their states)
  - Removing the contents of this directory will return karaf to its
pristine state (so "apt-get purge" should delete it)
  - Will contain the karaf tmp directory

 4. The script boots from a small CLASSPATH consisting of the contents
of the $KARAF_HOME/lib/boot directory

Bug#887006: ITP: node-rmrf -- no-BS synchronous rm -rf for node.js

2018-01-14 Thread Philip Hands
Control: forcemerge -1 887012

Hi,

I note that the description for this ITP is simply lifted from the git
repo, and that it isn't appropriate for a Debian package's description,
which combination seems to be a bit of a red flag on these ITPs.

The "longer" description is simply untrue -- the code does not in fact
run rm -rf. Instead it is a rather poor attempt at a re-implementation,
judging by this:

  https://github.com/mrDarcyMurphy/node-rmrf/issues/4

which strikes me as an RC bug.

The fix for that bug has been untouched for over two years:

  https://github.com/mrDarcyMurphy/node-rmrf/pull/5

which also have addressed the fact that the existing code cannot deal
with deleting special files, instead attempting to recurse into them on
the assumption that anything that's not a file must be a directory. :-/

The last commit here was in 2013 -- which suggests that this is dead
upstream (unless there's an active repository elsewhere).

Is this really the best implementation of a recursive delete in the node
ecosystem?

If there is something better, would it not be wise to drop this as a
dependency and use the better thing instead, hopefully pushing that
change upstream and so reducing reliance on this faulty implementation?

This doesn't give me the impression of something that's worth packaging,
unless you're planning on becoming the upstream, and fixing it first.

Cheers, Phil.

Bug#887312: ITP: libtickit -- Terminal Interface Construction KIT

Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: James McCoy

* Package name: libtickit
  Version : 0.2
  Upstream Author : Paul Evans
* URL : http://www.leonerd.org.uk/code/libtickit/
* License : MIT
  Programming Lang: C
  Description : Terminal Interface Construction KIT

This library provides an abstracted mechanism for building interactive
full-screen terminal programs. It provides a full set of output drawing
functions, and handles keyboard and mouse input events.
.
Using this library, applications can
.
 * Divide the terminal into a heirarchy of nested, possibly-overlapping
   rectangular windows
 * Render output content and react to input events independently in any
   window region
 * Use fully Unicode-aware string content, including non-BMP, fullwidth
   and combining characters
 * Draw line-art using Unicode box-drawing characters in a variety of
   styles
 * Operate synchronously or asynchronously via file descriptors, or
   abstractly via byte buffers
 * Recognise arbitrary keyboard input, including modifiers*
 * Make use of multiple terminals, if availble, from a single
   application
.
The following terminal features are supported (depending on terminal
support):
.
 * Many rendering attributes; bold, italics*, underline, reverse,
strikethough*, alternate font*
 * 256 and 24-bit (16million) colours*
 * Mouse including mouse wheel and recognition of position reporting greater
than 224 columns*
 * Arbitrary scrolling regions*

This is going to be a dependency of neovim, once required functionality
finishes being implemented. It will replace the libtermkey usage in
neovim.

* Package name: gpass
  Version : 0.5.1
  Upstream Author : Morten Fjord-Larsen, Kouji TAKAO
* URL : http://projects.netlab.jp/gpass/
* License : GPL
  Programming Lang: C
  Description : The password manager for GNOME2

I would like to have Gpass packaged in Debian again. It was present in Debian,
but removed. See

#617590 - RM: gpass -- RoQA; dead upstream, low popcon, alternatives exist,
orphaned - Debian Bug report logs
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=617590

I fixed (hopefully) the problem that prevented Gpass to compile with gcc
versions newer than 4.4, and also updated gpass to version 0.5.1 from its
official site. The code: https://code.launchpad.net/~stanray/gpass/gpass051 .
Gpass now compiles succesfully. If you compile Gpass manually with compilers
newer than gcc-4.4, configure script should be edited as well, e.g.
LDFLAGS="$LDFLAGS -Wl,--no-as-needed". See these bug reports:

Bug #770994 “gpass version 0.5.0-2 failed to build on amd64 with...” : Bugs
: “gpass” package : Ubuntu
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gpass/+bug/770994

Bug #505921 “[needs-packaging] newer version” : Bugs : “gpass” package
: Ubuntu
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gpass/+bug/505921

Gpass is useful. E.g., it allows to copy both ID and the password with single
Ctrl+Shift+B, and then paste them one by one.

Bug#887145: RFA: bluefish -- advanced Gtk+ text editor for web and software development

2018-01-14 Thread Daniel Leidert
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA512

I request an adopter for the bluefish package. I've happily maintained it for
around 12 years. Now I'm rarely using it and package management lacks behind.

This package deserves better.

It is usually a low maintenance package and has an active and responsive
upstream. The packaging and backporting files for Debian are currently located
in the upstream subversion repository at sourceforge.net. Bugs are tracked with
GNOME bugzilla. Backporting is done as a service to Debian users and requires
a few changes to the default packaging files, so there are different branches
for the packaging files. I tried to keep the differences as small as possible.
If you have any questions, please ask.

Regards, Daniel

The package description is:
 Bluefish is a powerful editor targeted towards programmers and web
 developers, with many options to write websites, scripts and programming
 code. Bluefish supports a wide variety of programming and markup languages
 and has many features, e.g.
 .
  - Customizable code folding, auto indenting and completion
  - Support for remote files operation over FTP, SFTP, HTTPS, WebDAV, etc.
  - Site upload and download
  - Powerful search and replace engine
  - Customizable integration of external programs such as lint, make, etc
  - Snippets plugin to automate often used code
  - Code-aware in-line spell checking
  - Zencoding or Emmet support
  - Bookmarks panel
 .
 but is still lightweight and fast.
 .
 For validation of CSS/HTML/XML documents you need csstidy, tidy, weblint
 and/or xmllint. For preview to work, you need a web browser that can view
 local files given to it on the command line. For PHP or Python bluefish
 supports php-codesniffer and pylint. Tools not suggested but supported
 are make, perl, php5-cli and java-compiler.
