Would switching to cronie [0] (which also provides an anacron
implementation [1]) be an option?

In contrast to cron and anacron, cronie seems to be actively maintained

to explain a set of training data. A decision tree is a kind of categorizer
that use a flowchart-like process for categorizing new instances. This

written for.

It is a suggestion for AI::Categorizer that I plan to package

Description : composable build system for OCaml projects

Dune is a build system designed for OCaml/Reason projects
only. It focuses on providing the user with a consistent experience
and takes care of most of the low-level details of OCaml
compilation. All you have to do is provide a description of your
project and Dune will do the rest.

Dune was previously named jbuilder; I am renaming the source and binary
packages to follow the upstream move.

Best,

Description : Native Go English Porter2 stemmer

Porter2 implements the english Porter2 stemmer. It is written
completely using finite state machines to do suffix comparison, rather
than the string-based or tree-based approaches. As a result, it is
660% faster compared to string comparison-based approach.

I intend to package this library under the auspices of debian-med for
the sake of recent ncbi-entrez-direct releases. However, if somebody
from the Go team wants to take this package over, they're certainly
welcome to it. ;-)

Description : Automatic Learner of Decision Trees

The AI::DecisionTree module automatically creates so-called "decision trees"
to explain a set of training data. A decision tree is a kind of categorizer
that use a flowchart-like process for categorizing new instances. This
implementation uses the gain obtained at each node in order to figure out
what are the most useful informations in order to take decisions.

This module is not developed anymore but it nicely does what it was
written for.

It is a suggestion for AI::Categorizer that I plan to package within Debian
Perl Team.

Yet another testing tool for Go.
 .
It's a mix of good things provided by the built-in testing package, the
 assertions (https://github.com/smartystreets/assertions) you know
and love from the GoConvey (http://goconvey.co) project, the xUnit
(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XUnit) testing style (the first real unit
testing framework), and it's all glued together with go test.

Bug#898432: ITP: libai-categorizer-perl -- Automatic Text Categorization

2018-05-11 Thread Laurent Baillet
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Laurent Baillet

* Package name: libai-categorizer-perl
  Version : 0.09
  Upstream Author : Ken Williams
* URL :
http://search.cpan.org/~kwilliams/AI-Categorizer-0.09/lib/AI/Categorizer.pm
* License : GPL-1+ or Artistic
  Programming Lang: Perl
  Description : Automatic Text Categorization

AI::Categorizer is a framework for automatic text categorization.
It consists of a collection of Perl modules that implement common
categorization tasks, and a set of defined relationships among
those modules. The various details are flexible - for example,
you can choose what categorization algorithm to use, what
features (words or otherwise) of the documents should be used
(or how to automatically choose these features), what format the
documents are in, and so on.

The basic process of using this module will typically involve
obtaining a collection of pre-categorized documents, creating a
"knowledge set" representation of those documents, training a
categorizer on that knowledge set, and saving the trained
categorizer for later use. There are several ways to carry out
this process. The top-level AI::Categorizer module provides an
umbrella class for high-level operations, or you may use the
interfaces of the individual classes in the framework.

I will package it within the Debian Perl Team.

Right, we normally do this and when someone asks for a new repo we create it
and give master access to it.

starting from "Public VCS repository of Debian packaging"
Use the "Display source" button for better reading.

See also http://pkg-kde.alioth.debian.org/gitguidelines.html

You can read more guidelines/rules in http://pkg-kde.alioth.debian.org/
section "Working notes"

If you plan to use the qt namespace that will not be possible (as per my last
mail).

It is worth to note that pyside2 will probably use some Qt's private headers.
If that's true:

- We try to avoid exporting (aka: creating a binary package shipping) private
headers as much as possible. They are problematic as any unstable API/ABI can
be.

- We only ship those that are needed by Qt submodules themselves, and so far
have been refusing to ship more.

- If Pyside2 uses private headers it will end up depending in qt-abi-x-y-
z, that's the way we track packages using private headers (which includes qt
submodules) and allows us to do very smooth transitions whenever possible.
That only means that it will need to get rebuilt whenever we ship a new
upstream version.

General info: due to transitions, manpower and number of bugs we normally skip
5.x.0 and even patch releases in unstable. In other words we tend to ship 5.x.
1 and 5.x.3 at most (upstream rarely does .3 releases anyways).

Sometimes we start packing .0 and even releases in experimental, to reduce the
work needed when a suitable release is about to come.

All that being said, if the package is kept under qt/ following our repo style
it's easier for us to jump in in case it's needed (for example, if we are
ready for a transition). I can't say if anyone will be able to do it if kept
under qt-extras and using gbp or alike (I personally don't use nor expect to
use gbp, for example).

Right. I think all is needed to create the repo is knowing which namespace you
will prefer: qt or qt-extras.

Of course, please feel free to ask any questions you might have.

Once again, thanks!

Bug#849267: ITP: mate-equake-applet -- Mate panel applet which monitors earthquakes

2018-05-11 Thread Jeroen van Aart

I have uploaded a new version of this package to mentors:

https://mentors.debian.net/package/mate-equake-applet

I know the previous sponsorship request was closed and archived because
it was removed from mentors. I had to migrate the application to gtk3
first, which I completed.

Should I create a new sponsorship request?

Debian changelog:

  * New upstream release (Closes: #849267)
  * Migrated to gtk3 which is the default major version of gtk used by
mate in

the current debian stable and newer
  * Limited the amount to which text can grow before being displayed into
GtkLabel when viewing historical data for the week, to prevent
GtkLabel from

crashing
  * Added test to count amount of commas left in text to be processed

Thank you. Note that you granted me "developer" access which doesn't let
me create new repositories, so I will need one of you to create the
repository and also to add sophie (sbrun-guest) as member of the
pyside2 repository.

Are the rules documented somewhere?

At this point, there are no (versioned) upstream tarball releases so it
might be better to be able to have full sources in the git repository and
generate the .orig.tar.gz out of it.

There are no Uploaders left in debian/control both for pyside and
shiboken:
https://salsa.debian.org/python-team/modules/shiboken/blob/master/debian/control

And at least the version embedded in the code matches the Qt version, yes.

Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Laurent Baillet

* Package name: libai-decisiontree-perl
  Version : 0.11
  Upstream Author : Ken Williams
* URL : https://github.com/kenahoo/perl-ai-decisiontree
* License : GPL-1+ or Artistic
  Programming Lang: Perl
Description : Automatic Learner of Decision Trees

The AI::DecisionTree module automatically creates so-called "decision trees"
to explain a set of training data. A decision tree is a kind of categorizer
that use a flowchart-like process for categorizing new instances. This
implementation uses the gain obtained at each node in order to figure out
what are the most useful informations in order to take decisions.

This module is not developed anymore but it nicely does what it was
written for.

It is a suggestion for AI::Categorizer that I plan to package within Debian
Perl Team.

Description : Minetest module to add a Lucky Block to the game

This minetest module provides a new block, which when broken can give
the player something good, surprising, bad, hurtful or simply a troll.
 .
The exact number of Lucky Blocks depends on the enabled mods.

I plan to maintain this package within the Debian Games Team, along the
other minetest-mod-* packages.

This PEAR class provides a text-based diff engine and renderers for
multiple diff output formats: in classic context diff, inline, or the
more commonly used unified format.

This is a new dependency of eXtplorer that I have already uploaded
to SID, so I wish to package this in order to upload the new version
of eXtplorer and ExtJS.

Hi all,

First of all, thanks Raphaël and Sophie for working on PySide2 packaging!

It looks like pyside2 will use the same release cycle as Qt uses, so we
will most likely have to update it together with the other Qt modules.

It would be a bit easier for us if you put it into the Qt namespace and
followed our packaging scheme (debian/ only repository), but Qt extras and
whatever repo structure should work too.

As far as I know, there are no current pyside 1.x maintainers. So there is
nobody who can complain about this move.

I really hope someone with good Python Debian packaging skills will
soon package pyside2 for inclusion in Debian!

Sophie and me are working to bring pyside2 into Debian. We would like to
put it in pkg-kde-extras. I requested access to the salsa group for this.

Welcome to the team!

Should it go in "Qt" or "Qt extras"? It's going to be something official by
the upstream Qt project so I think that "Qt" might be good.

Right, but please take into account that the packages maintained under the qt
tree use a debian directory only packaging branch, and in general, they use
all the same packaging structure (no dpm, no upstream branches or tags in the
public repos, etc). This set of rules is more relaxed in qt-extras
and kde-extras.

Also, I don't see in the bug log any comment about the current pyside
maintenance, are the pyside maintainers ok with moving the new version of the
project to a different repository in a different team?

Happy hacking,

Sophie and me are working to bring pyside2 into Debian. We would like to
put it in pkg-kde-extras. I requested access to the salsa group for this.

Should it go in "Qt" or "Qt extras"? It's going to be something official by
the upstream Qt project so I think that "Qt" might be good.

Currently the code is split among two git repositories upstream:
https://code.qt.io/cgit/pyside/pyside-setup.git/
https://code.qt.io/cgit/pyside/pyside-tools.git/

pyside-setup contains PySide2 and Shiboken2 (and pyside2-tools as
submodule).

I think we will want to name the source package and the git repository
"pyside2" anyway. And we possibly want to integrate pyside-tools
in the .orig.tar.gz as well.

Cheers,

Bug#898400: RFP: sccache -- Shared Compilation Cache for Rust

2018-05-11 Thread Carsten Schoenert
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: sccache
  Version : 0.2.6
  Upstream Author : Mozilla GitHub
* URL : https://github.com/mozilla/sccache
* License : Apache 2.0
  Programming Lang: Rust, Markdown, Shell
Description : Shared Compilation Cache for Rust

sccache is a ccache-like tool. It is used as a compiler wrapper and
avoids compilation when possible, storing a cache in a remote storage
using the Amazon Simple Cloud Storage Service (S3) API, the Google Cloud
Storage (GCS) API, or Redis if wanted.

sccache can also be used with local storage instead of remote.

It works as a client-server. The client spawns a server if one is not
running already, and sends the wrapped command line as a request to the
server, which then does the work and returns stdout/stderr for the job.
The client-server model allows the server to be more efficient in its
handling of the remote storage.

We all know of ccache [1], a wrapper for compiler calls to gcc or g++.
sccache does the same for Rust code and can keep compile time of the
source at a minimum. Firefox and Thunderbird, which is still based
mostly on the code of Firefox, are using Rust as programming language
more and more and building them take now a lot of time.

Firstly the availability of sccache will help to get Firefox and
Thunderbird packages more qickly while doing testing builds, but all
other Rust based projects with their source code will benefit from
sccache.
