Bug#1005853: RFA: mutt-alias-el -- Emacs package to lookup and insert expanded Mutt mail aliases

2022-02-15 Thread Nicholas D Steeves
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal
Control: affects -1 src:mutt-alias-el

Mutt-alias is an Emacs package that allows one to lookup Mutt aliases
and insert the expanded alias as an email address. The following
 functions are available:
   * mutt-alias-insert - Insert the expanded alias into the current buffer.
   * mutt-alias-lookup - Lookup and display the expansion for alias.

I'm offering this package up for adoption because I no longer use it,
and because a newcomer may be inspired to maintain a high popcon
package. The package is in good condition.

Regards,
Nicholas

Bug#1005842: ITP: rime-loengfan -- Rime Input Method Engine schema data - Loengfan

2022-02-15 Thread Boyuan Yang
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: rime-loengfan
  Version : 0.0~git20210704.7c9b0a0-1
  Upstream Author : Ayaka Mikazuki
* URL : https://github.com/rime/rime-loengfan

  Programming Lang: N/A
Description : Rime Input Method Engine schema data - Loengfan

RIME is the acronym of Rime Input Method Engine.
 .
RIME is a lightweight, extensible input method engine supporting various
input
schemas including glyph-based input methods, romanization-based input methods
as well as those for Chinese dialects. It has the ability to compose phrases
and sentences intelligently and provide very accurate traditional Chinese
output. RIME's cross-platform core library is written in C++, and can work
consistently on different platforms with OS-specific wrappers.
 .
This package provides the Loengfan (粵語兩分) schema data of RIME.
It is the Cantonese version of Liang Fen input method.

I plan to maintain this package under Debian Input Method Team:
https://salsa.debian.org/input-method-team/rime-loengfan .

Thanks,
Boyuan Yang

The screenshot says that `dput` checks for a `.upload` file.

So the `debian/changelog` changes concerning '-2' where NOT needed.
And they need be reverted or other clean up is needed.

Description : Draws signalling charts from textual description

Msc-generator is a program that parses textual Message Sequence
Chart descriptions and produces graphical output in a variety of file formats.

Msc-generator heavily borrows in concept from the 0.08 version of
Michael C McTernan's mscgen. However, it has been completely rewritten from
scratch and has a much more extensive (and only partially backwards compatible)
language. The command-line interface is fully backwards compatible with
mscgen, which enables using Msc-generator's commandline tool everywhere
where you can use mscgen, but with the richer syntax.
This includes the many tools integrated with mscgen, such as Doxygen, Sphinx
and Msctexen.

I am already packaging it in my Ubuntu Launchpad PPA, and it is used by some
(including myself). I wish to bring it to Debian proper though.
I can maintain the package myself, but need a sponsor.

  Programming Lang: Python
Description : GUI for creating and (un-)locking encrypted volumes from
LUKS/TrueCrypt container files

At the moment there is no graphical interface for using encrypted
LUKS/TrueCrypt container files in Debian. On the one hand there are licencing
issues with original TrueCrypt application and its successors. On the other the
need for elevated privileges s to handle such containers makes developing such
an interface not straightforward. The only other graphical application that I
am aware of called ZuluCrypt was unfortunately not accepted into Debian because
it uses setuid [1].

luckyLUKS aims to fill this gap by providing an easy to use interface:
- Create LUKS[2] or TrueCrypt[3] containers
- Unlock/Close existing containers
- Systray icon as a reminder to close them eventually
- Create freedesktop start menu entries as shortcuts
- Mounting works with or without running udisks daemon

Encrypted containers have some advantages compared to the much better supported
encrypted partitions (especially for casual computer users):
- No need to deal with partition table wizardry when creating an encrypted
container, just creating a file on an (internal or external) harddrive/usbstick
etc
- Backup is straightforward, just copy the file somewhere else
- Allows adding some encrypted private data to an unencrypted external
harddrive you want to share with friends or take with you while travelling
- Lots of users are already quite familiar with all this, because their first
touch with data encryption has been TrueCrypt which uses the encrypted
container approach

All tasks that require elevated privileges are executed from a seperate child
process. Sudo is used to handle this combined with strict checks on ipc
commands - reviews welcome! I developed the application to support some friends
that are not too keen on using the command line, it has been tested for a while
and is probably ready for general use by now. I have the application in a
Launchpad PPA at the moment and think I'll be able to maintain the Debian
package myself - will now start looking for a sponsor to help with that. More
information including a FAQ and a little screencast on the homepage.

Cheers,
Jasper

* Package name: luckyLUKS-gtk
  Version : 1.2.0
Upstream Author : Jasper van Hoorn
* URL : https://github.com/jas-per/luckyLUKS
* License : GPLv3+
  Programming Lang: Python
Description : Gtk-GUI for creating and (un-)locking encrypted volumes
from LUKS/TrueCrypt container files

luckyLUKS-gtk contains alternative gtk2 (python2) and gtk3 (python3) packages
of the qt-based application luckyLUKS, that provides a graphical interface for
using encrypted LUKS/TrueCrypt container files [1]. Encrypted containers offer
some advantages compared to encrypted partitions especially for casual users :

-> No need to deal with partition table wizardry when creating an encrypted
container, you basically create a file on a harddrive, it doesn't matter if its
an internal one or an external usbstick etc..
-> Backup is straightforward as well, just copy the file somewhere else
-> sharing confidential information: again, copy the container file. similar to
gpg encrypted archives but easier to handle: unlock -- view or modify data --
lock again
-> You can easily add some encrypted private data to an unencrypted external
harddrive without repartitioning
-> Lots of users are already quite familiar with all this, because their first
touch with data encryption has been TrueCrypt which uses the encrypted
container approach

The success of TrueCrypt has been based on making the rather complex operation
of handling encrypted data easy to perform, even for casual computer users -
using containers (simple files) instead of partititons helped a lot in reducing
that complexety, because many casual users are confident in handling files,
while only a much smaller group likes to deal with partitions.

Right now support for encrypted containers in Linux faces a bit of a chicken-
and-egg problem: To encourage users to encrypt their personal data everywhere a
simple interface to handle encrypted containers and getting used to the concept
is needed. Ideally support for encrypted containers could be provided by an
application tightly coupled with a desktop environment or file manager, but
this won't be a priority as long as there is no demand from casual users.

The aim of luckyLUKS is to help testing the water by providing a GUI for all
the basic needs in regard to encrypted containers. To enable efficient
integration into most current desktop environments without requiring
substantial dependencies, the major current toolkits are supported: gtk2/3 and
qt4/5. All versions have been extensively tested on the current debian releases
and various debian based distributions.

Package: x11-utils
Version: 7.7+5
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

   * x11-utils copy of luit was superseded by luit 2.0 in 2013.
   * mentioned this several times to developers in X Strike Force
   * developers did not reply to those comments
   * developers could have suggested a way to address the issue

As a solution to that, I propose to create a new package "luit2",
and modify x11-utils to install its luit as "luit1", allowing the
alternatives feature to let users select an up-to-date luit.

The change to x11-utils is in bug #1003021.
This bug covers the new packaging for luit.

* Package name: python-bracex
  Version : 2.2.1
  Upstream Author : Isaac Muse
* URL : https://github.com/facelessuser/bracex
* License : MIT
  Programming Lang: Python
  Description : brace expanding library

Bracex is a brace expanding library (à la Bash) for Python. Brace
expanding is used to generate arbitrary strings.

Bracex actually follows pretty closely to how Bash processes braces.
It is not a 1:1 implementation of how Bash handles braces, but
generally, it follows very closely. Almost all of the test cases are
run through Bash first, then our implementation is compared against
the results Bash gives. There are a few cases where we have purposely
deviated. For instance, we are not handling Bash's command line
inputs, so we are not giving special meaning to back ticks and quotes
at this time.

On the command line Bracex can handle more expansions than Bash itself.

This package is a build-dep of ansible-lint 5.x and it will be
maintained under the Debian Python Team
 at
https://salsa.debian.org/python-team/packages/python-bracex
