Bug#1009613: ITP: rime-scj -- Rime Input Method Engine schema data - Fast Cangjie

2022-04-12 Thread Boyuan Yang
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: rime-scj
  Version : 0.0~git20190120
  Upstream Author : Gong Chen
* URL : https://github.com/rime/rime-scj
* License : GPL-3.0
  Programming Lang: N/A
  Description : Rime Input Method Engine schema data - Fast Cangjie

 RIME is the acronym of Rime Input Method Engine.
 .
 RIME is a lightweight, extensible input method engine supporting various
input
 schemas including glyph-based input methods, romanization-based input methods
 as well as those for Chinese dialects. It has the ability to compose phrases
 and sentences intelligently and provide very accurate traditional Chinese
 output. RIME's cross-platform core library is written in C++, and can work
 consistently on different platforms with OS-specific wrappers.
 .
 This package provides the fast cangjie schema data of RIME.

This package will be part of the effort to migrate from
https://tracker.debian.org/pkg/brise to https://github.com/rime/plum by
splitting individual data packages and maintaining them individually. The new
binary package rime-data-scj6 will replace old librime-data-scj6
provided by src:brise.

I plan to maintain this package under Debian Input Method Team:
https://salsa.debian.org/input-method-team/rime-scj .

Thanks,
Boyuan Yang

Bug#1009375: O: rust-rustls -- Modern TLS library

2022-04-12 Thread Bastian Germann

Package: wnpp

Hereby, I orphan rust-rustls. In the times of OpenSSL license exceptions I
wanted to introduce MesaLink to Debian to offer people a drop-in replacement.
rustls is one of its dependencies, so I packaged that first.

With the dropped license exception requirement, I am no longer interested in
maintaining this package.

  Version : 2.16.0
  Upstream Author : Anthony Sottile
* URL : https://github.com/asottile/pyupgrade
* License : BSD
  Programming Lang: Python
  Description : Automatically upgrade syntax for newer versions of the
Python language

This helper script can help you normalize your Python source code
by rewriting parts of your code to use the latest syntax improvements.

Some examples from the README:

set([])  # set()

'{0} {1}'.format(1, 2)# '{} {}'.format(1, 2)

x is 5  # x == 5

'{foo} {bar}'.format(foo=foo, bar=bar)  # f'{foo} {bar}'

I discovered this tool by reading some documentation and I'd like
it to be available in Debian so that I can try it and use it :-)

ccing debian-pyt...@lists.debian.org in the hope to catch the attention of
someone with more time than me.

Thank you!

* URL : https://metacpan.org/release/Parse-Distname

  Programming Lang: Perl
  Description : module to parse a CPAN distribution name

Parse::Distname is yet another distribution name parser. It works almost the
same as CPAN::DistnameInfo, but Parse::Distname takes a different approach.
It tries to extract a version part of a distribution and treat the rest as a
distribution name, contrary to CPAN::DistnameInfo which tries to define a
name part and treat the rest as a version.

The package will be maintained under the umbrella of the Debian Perl Group.

* Package name: linkify-it-py
  Version : 1.0.3
  Upstream Author : Tsutsu3
* URL : https://github.com/tsutsu3/linkify-it-py
* License : MIT
  Programming Lang: Python3
  Description : links recognition library with FULL unicode support

 linkify-it-py is focused on high quality link patterns detection in plain
text.
 .
 Why it's awesome:
 .
  - Full unicode support, with astral characters!
  - International domains support.
  - Allows rules extension & custom normalizers.

-

This package has become a build dependency for the package sympy, which
I am maintaining, since the last upstream version. It must be included in
debian if we want to keep maintaining the package sympy.

  Description : CTF framework and exploit development library

pwntools is designed for rapid prototyping and development, to make
exploit writing as simple as possible. The primary use case of this
framework are CTF hacking contests, where vulnerabilities in a sandbox
environment are exploited to gain access to a "flag" file or secret
string, as proof of success.

I'm packaging this framework out of personal interest and intend to
maintain it as part of the Python Team. Most dependencies are available
in Debian already, with the exception of ROPgadget, colored_traceback,
and the RPyC Remote Procedure Call library, which are currently waiting
in NEW.

It would be great if you could get the Rust team involved, as the majority of
the dependencies should go in there. I started packaging dependencies for the
non-next-Fractal back in the day, but the crypto stuff (for secret-service) was
taking ages to get through NEW, which is why I gave up at some point.

Bug#1009373: ITP: xmppconsole -- tool for XMPP hackers

2022-04-12 Thread Martin
Package: wnpp
Owner: Martin
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: xmppconsole
  Version : git master 2020-10-18
  Upstream Author : Dmytro Podgornyi
* URL or Web page : https://github.com/pasis/xmppconsole
* License : GPL-3+
  Description : tool for XMPP hackers

This tool sends raw XMPP stanzas over an XMPP connection and displays
the XMPP stream. Main purpose is to study XEPs and debug implementation
of XMPP entities.

xmppconsole has multiple options which you can review with --help
argument. It allows you to connect to a server with misconfigured TLS
and/or DNS record. Also, you can connect to a server anonymously if the
server supports this. Or you can even start working with XMPP connection
before authentication and debug in-band registration or authentication
mechanisms.

The package will be maintained here:

Bug#900928: RFP: fractal -- Matrix group messaging app

Needs embedding 370 crates (16 from git snapshot); Builds in ~40
minutes; Runs but has issues with glib schema file and libsecret

> It compiles, also in an non-networked build environment if first
> fetching 428 Rust crates (see debian/README.source).

Now reduced to needing 370 crates embedded. A few more should be
possible to replace with system crates, but a large part is either not
yet packaged at all or needs upgrading to link with gtk4.

As mentioned in previous posts, on my (non-GNOME) environment it
segfaults unless I remove
/usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas/org.gnome.Fractal.gschema.xml, and then it
logs in but then apparently disconnects again whe it cannot store
credentials. Maybe those two issues are connected, and maybe they
disappear on a GNOME desktop (i.e. are a matter of depending on and
loading proper desktop daemons): Help needed to investigate that.

I have orphaned the usb-modeswitch-data package for reasons independant of
this package, or of Debian.

The package description is:
 Several new USB devices have their proprietary Windows drivers onboard,
 especially WAN dongles. When plugged in for the first time, they act
 like a flash storage and start installing the driver from there. If
 the driver is already installed, the storage device vanishes and
 a new device, such as an USB modem, shows up. This is called the
 "ZeroCD" feature.
 .
 On Debian, this is not needed, since the driver is included as a
 Linux kernel module, such as "usbserial". However, the device still
 shows up as "usb-storage" by default. usb-modeswitch solves that
 issue by sending the command which actually performs the switching
 of the device from "usb-storage" to "usbserial".
 .
 This package contains the commands data needed for usb-modeswitch.

Great!

The segfault can apparently be avoided by removing
/usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas/org.gnome.Fractal.gschema.xml and then
running "glib-compile-schemas /usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas".

I can now log in, and Fratal begins indexing data (I can hear
matrix-synapse churning at my self-hosted non-SSD server few meters from
me), but when done it presents no rooms, and in terminal it spewed this:

> Error: Can't store the password using libsecret
> Error: Can't store the token using libsecret

If you want to compile on your own, then try if you get as far as me -
or further if you happen to be running GNOME, which I suspect might
provide a smoother ride than my sway environment.

If you want to try packages I build, then say so and I can arrange to
put them online.

I have now put together a draft source package, tracked at
https://salsa.debian.org/matrix-team/fractal

It compiles, also in an non-networked build environment if first
fetching 428 Rust crates (see debian/README.source).

Build takes ~40 minutes on my local amd64 system.

The built executable segfaults, however:

> $ LANG=C fractal

> (fractal:354481): GLib-GIO-ERROR **: 12:02:22.755: Settings schema
> 'org.gnome.Fractal' does not contain a key named 'markdown-active'
> Sporings-/stoppunkts-fælde (smed kerne)

That last message oddly ignores the LANG variable - it says something
like "Tracing/stoppoint trap (threw core)" which I guess essentially
means a segfault.

My plan is to continue refine this package until suitable for release
into Debian, and then maintain it in the Matrix team.

@Antoine (and others reading along): You are quite welcome to help. If
you want to help test, then please tell if you want me to provide
pre-built binaries (when no longer segfaulting I expect to compile for
amd64 and arm64 for my own use, and can share those more widely if there
is interest).

Hi Roberto and others,

FYI I've been able to build the PPA version of yq 4.16.2 in a Debian
schroot just my bumping the golang-1.15 dependency to 1.18, and
adjusting d/rules GOVERSION accordingly.

Aside from postfix-ldap as a lookup module, SASL modules might also need
the files to be in the chroot.

For example, I'm preparing the sasl-xoauth2 module for debian (see
https://bugs.debian.org/1006888) and the upstream developer for that
package (Tarick Bedeir, in Cc here) has some hooks in his upstream .deb
packaging (that targets ubuntu), which trying to copy
/etc/ssl/certs/ca-certificates.crt into the chroot whenever
ca-certificates is updated:

https://github.com/tarickb/sasl-xoauth2/blob/master/scripts/update-ca-certificates.sh
   https://github.com/tarickb/sasl-xoauth2/blob/master/debian/install

https://github.com/tarickb/sasl-xoauth2/blob/master/debian/sasl-xoauth2.postinst

This seems to be a not-particularly-robust approach, including at
least:

   https://github.com/tarickb/sasl-xoauth2/issues/13
   https://github.com/tarickb/sasl-xoauth2/issues/14

I don't plan to adopt this particular approach for the debian package,
for (at least) a few reasons:

- the sasl-xoauth2 package isn't even explicitly related to postfix --
  that's the main upstream test case, but that doesn't mean that the
  sasl-xoauth2 package should fiddle with the default postfix
  installation.

- This approach won't work for a multi-tenant postfix installation; it
  doesn't transfer the CA directory, etc.

- /usr/share/doc/postfix/README.Debian.gz section 2A suggests that
  /etc/default/postfix is supposed be the right way to ensure that these
  files are updated on postfix restart.

My current plan is to drop a short note in
/usr/share/doc/sasl-xoauth2/README.Debian that encourages use of
/etc/default/postfix for postfix admins who install this module.

But it would be pretty cool if postfix could automagically figure out
that it needs the ca-certificates file if this sasl module is
configured.

Scott, if you have any suggestions for how to approach this going
forward, i'd be happy to try to adopt those suggestions in the
sasl-xoauth2 packaging. Or, if you can see that i'm making some kind of
mistake here, i'd appreciate hearing about it too.

Please let me know what you think!

 --dkg

PS i recognize that some packaging/system-integration decisions might be
   different were i to try to backport sasl-xoauth2 for the existing
   debian stable; but i'd prefer to sort out the cleanest and most
   easily-maintainable packaging for debian unstable first, which is why
   i'm raising this here. Whoever wants to do fiddly stuff for
   backports can do so as necessary, but i don't want to have to
   maintain that fiddliness in the packaging going forward if i can
   avoid it.
