Thanks for the clarification, actually I didn't notice that.

OK so let's see if this ITA goes forward otherwise the next step is to orphan
the package

Bug#976308: ITA: cfengine3 -- tool for configuring and maintaining network machines

2021-11-27 Thread Antonio Radici
Hello folks,
what's the status on this bug?

I had zero time to work on cfengine3 and I'm going to orphan it, I see that
there was an ITA but no upload, now Bastian has taken over the ITA, is there
any plan here?

Thanks!

Bug#976308: RFA: cfengine3 -- tool for configuring and maintaining network machines

2020-12-03 Thread Antonio Radici
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I request an adopter for the cfengine3 package.

I haven't been using the package in a while and I don't believe I can be
effective maintaining it due to that.

The package description is:
Cfengine is a suite of programs for integrated autonomic management
of either individual or networked computers.
 .
Cfengine 3 is both a more powerful and much simplified version of cfengine,
which has been designed to inter operate with cfengine 2 rather than be
 backwards compatible with it.
 .
With cfengine 3 you can install, configure and maintain computers using
 powerful hands-free tools.

Description : NeoMutt is a command line mail reader (or MUA). It's a
version of Mutt with added features.

To give more context, have a look at b/870635; neomutt was packaged as 'mutt' in
stretch but the current mutt maintainer has raised issue of the tarball being
used: since the codebase of neomutt diverged (initially due to code formatting
changes, then due to some API changes and code split), which made patching mutt
with a single huge neomutt patch impractical (the patch was larger than the
source code).

We have restored original mutt source code at version 1.9.1-1 and given that
this was just done, I plan to spin up a new neomutt package starting from the
same version (with the latest version of neomutt); the plan is to fork the
pkg-mutt git repository from the latest tag and start from there, packaging the
new neomutt version.

Bug#825821: ITP: neomutt -- NeoMutt is a place to gather all the patches against Mutt.

As mutt maintainer I second every word that Evgeni has already said, we are
already working with the neomutt maintainer and there is activity, I don't
believe there we are adding much with another mutt fork/additional package.

Additionally I'm not sure why debian-devel@ was added to this bug.

Bug#520324: ITP: chromium-browser -- A web browser developed by Google based on the WebKit engine

2009-09-17 Thread Antonio Radici
Hi Alexander,
I've already packaged libv8-0 (latest 1.3.11 from upstream committed
some days ago to trunk), the package is building fine, lintian clean and
it is waiting for a sponsor (ITP 497701).
Most of the packaging comes from ubuntu but I had to adapt it for Debian;
it is in collab-maint so if you want to partecipate it would be great.

Chromium (chromium-browser) needs libv8-0 to work so if we can have a
single team to manage this it could be great; if we could have people
from ubuntu and Debian to commit to a single repository it would be even
better.

What do you think?

Hi Fabien,
I still have ITP 497701 for libv8 open and I saw that you and your team made a
great progress incorporating libv8 in Ubuntu, since upstream is now distributing
a SONAME I reckon that the debian packaging would be fairly easy and it would be
just a matter of incorporating your changes (obviousy retaining your
copyright).

Since you did most of the work on Ubuntu, I was wondering if you want to
co-maintain the package in Debian (if you don't have time) or even maintain it
(if you have time), I will take care of doing the first build by adapting your
package for Debian and then it will be just a matter of syncing the two repo.

What do you think?

I look forward to your reply.

Bug#516446: ITP: libtest-poe-server-tcp -- a POE Component providing TCP server services for test cases

2009-02-21 Thread Antonio Radici
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Antonio Radici anto...@dyne.org

Description : a POE Component providing TCP server services for test cases

Test::POE::Server::TCP provides a TCP server framework for inclusion in
client component test cases, instead of having to roll your own
.
Once registered with the component, a session will receive events related to
client connects, disconnects, input and flushed output. Each of these events
will refer to a unique client ID which may be used in communication with the
component when sending data to the client or disconnecting a client connection.

Hi,
the package is ready to be uploaded, I've moved everything

The package is also lintian clean.

I sent a mail to debian-mentors@ and I'm waiting for someone to review
it and upload it.

2009-02-14 Thread Antonio Radici

Hi Fabien,
next week I'll package libv8 with a 0d SONAME; I saw
your bug report and I remember posting a comment
in there but I don't know where I cannot see it anymore :|

I'm already using your install patch, unfortunately
scons does not support SONAME's natively; if you have
any workaround please let me know :)

A temporary git repository is here:
http://git.debian.org/?p=users/antonio-guest/libv8.git

I'll move it to collab-maint as soon as I finish the
debian packaging and tag the first release, let me know
if you want to contribute to it :-)

That's too bad, I don't see how we could collaborate here.

It seems to me you are re-doing everything differently.

I have everything needed, except the soname, which you don't have
either.

Hi Fabien,
I have no problem in copying over your branch, if you're already member
of the collab-maint group on alioth you're welcome to change it accordingly;
if not please request the membership on alioth :-)

I'm adding libv8.git to collab-maint right now, please feel free to include
all your changes and let me know if you find something not compatible, I'd be

Hi,
I can adopt this and incorporate the new upstream release.
Additionally upstream has already released cfengine with 3 as
major version so probably the cfengine3 package is needed.

Anyway, before packagaging anything I will go through the bug
list and forward upstream what's should be forwarded.

Bug#497701: ITP: libv8 -- Google V8 JavaScript Engine

2009-02-09 Thread Antonio Radici

The package seemed simple but actually there are two issues:
1) the package is using scons without any install target, that
means that it should be patched so an install target will be
added; this is trivial

2) the shared library which is built from the package (libv8.so)
is not shipping *any* soname, and scons does not support
sonames natively; upstream knows about this, see:
http://code.google.com/p/v8/issues/detail?id=151

The Debian Library Packaging Guide advices to inform upstream
about the soname missing and let him add the soname, rather than
introducing a binary compatibility only for debian.

I'm poking upstream, if he does not reply probably it's better
not to package libv8, waiting for the soname; anyway if someone
else has any other idea please feel free to change the ownership
of this ITP.

Cheers

Bug#511613: ITA: libpam-pwgen -- a password generator

2009-01-24 Thread Antonio Radici

I had a look at the source code, it is reusing some code from
a tool called Java Password Generator:
http://www.multicians.org/thvv/gpw.html

Unfortunately the page does not state clearly how to handle
derivative work, so I sent the following mail to the author of
GPW asking him to license his code.

---
Subject: Java Password Generator license

Hi Tom,
I'm working on packaging a PAM module for debian, its code was written by Jan Rêkorajski, this is
the source code of the module:

http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/pool/main/libp/libpam-pwgen/libpam-pwgen_0.1.orig.tar.gz

The author claims in the README that he's using your code to generate some pronunceable passwords;
in the tar package there is a file called README.gpw and it also links to a webpage where you state
that your code can be used freely if the source is shared, if you are let known that it is used and
if we give you credit, this is the page:

http://www.multicians.org/thvv/gpw.html

Unfortunately what's needed for debian is a license which clearly defines what can/cannot be done
with your source code, how to handle derivative work and so on; based on this I can select which
branch of debian the pam_pwgen module can stay into (main, non-free, etc).

So, my question is: could you license that code with a 'free' license that states what can and
cannot be done with it? You could use Perl artistic, GPLv2, GPLv3, BSD or whatever licence you like
(it's your code, at end of the day), but it's really important to me to have a license.

Thanks for your time, I look forward to your reply.

Cheers
Antonio Radici
---

I'll wait for his reply and then I can package the code.

Cheers
Antonio
