 as they were updated. As the number of programs increased and keeping these
 pieces of code synced became more annoying, the decision was made to combine
 all of them into a single reusable shared library.

   - Choose a scene to use as a transition.
   - Set the total transition duration.
   - Set a what point the scene changes (Time or Percentage).
   - Choose a filter to trigger on the transition scene when the transition
 starts.

Ok, this is commendable. However, keeping Debian (as OS) secure is

Nope. Downgrading is a workaround for new upstream versions full broken,
but already sent to Debian. Is dangerous and undesirable to reintroduce
an old version of a software to make it "a good dependency". This action
may generate critical bugs or introduce security holes. The right way is
ask to the upstream to update the software to use the current version of
a dependency. In other words, "+really" must be used in very extreme
cases only, not for adjustments.

Bug#1019497: O: watchman -- file watching service

2022-09-10 Thread Eriberto Mota
Hello again,

After taking a look over the current source code in GitHub, I noticed
that it is a nightmare (for me).

1. The most complicated for me: there are 5 embedded libraries (in
watchman/thirdparty/). This is a very bad thing because these
libraries are old and vulnerable.

2. The program has source code based in 5 different languages (C++,
Python, Rust, Java and Thrift).

3. There are several relevant issues opened (including a question
about FTBFS in Ubuntu 22.04).

I lost interest in adopting this package. Thanks for your previous work.

Cheers,

Eriberto

Bug#1019105: RFP: lossless-cut -- Swiss army knife of lossless video/audio editing

2022-09-03 Thread Joao Eriberto Mota Filho
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
X-Debbugs-Cc: Mikael Finstad

* Package name: lossless-cut
  Upstream Author : Mikael Finstad
* URL : https://github.com/mifi/lossless-cut
* License : GPL-2
  Programming Lang: JavaScript
  Description : Swiss army knife of lossless video/audio editing

LosslessCut aims to be the ultimate cross platform FFmpeg GUI for extremely
fast and lossless operations on video, audio, subtitle and other related media
files. The main feature is lossless trimming and cutting of video and audio
files, which is great for saving space by rough-cutting your large video files
taken from a video camera, GoPro, drone, etc. It lets you quickly extract the
good parts from your videos and discard many gigabytes of data without doing a
slow re-encode and thereby losing quality. Or you can add a music or subtitle
track to your video without needing to encode. Everything is extremely fast
because it does an almost direct data copy, fueled by the awesome FFmpeg which
does all the grunt work.

Features

* Lossless cutting of most video and audio formats.
* Smart cut (experimental).
* Losslessly cut out parts of video/audio (for cutting away commercials
  etc.)
* Losslessly rearrange the order of video/audio segments.
* Lossless merge/concatenation of arbitrary files (with identical codecs
  parameters, e.g. from the same camera).
* Lossless stream editing:
- Combine arbitrary tracks from multiple files (ex. add music or
  subtitle track to a video file).
- Remove unneeded tracks.
- Replace or re-encode only some tracks.
- Extract all tracks from a file (extract video, audio, subtitle,
  attachments and other tracks from one file into separate files).
* Batch view for fast multi-file workflow.
* Keyboard shortcut workflow.
* Losslessly remux video/audio into a different container (file) format.
* Take full-resolution snapshots from videos in JPEG/PNG format, or export
  ranges of video frames to images.
* Manual input of cutpoint times.
* Apply a per-file timecode offset (and auto load timecode from file).
* Edit file metadata, per-track metadata and per-track disposition.
* Change rotation/orientation metadata in videos.
* View technical data about all tracks.
* Timeline zoom and frame/keyframe jumping for cutting around keyframes.
* Video thumbnails and audio waveform.
* Saves per project cut segments to project file.
* View FFmpeg last command log so you can modify and re-run recent commands
  on the command line.
* Undo/redo.
* Give labels to cut segments.
* Annotate segments with tags.
* Import/export segments: MP4/MKV chapter marks, Text file, YouTube, CSV,
  CUE, XML (DaVinci, Final Cut Pro) and more.
* MKV/MP4 embedded chapters marks editor.
* View subtitles.
* Customizable keyboard hotkeys.
* Black scene detection.
* Divide timeline into segments with length L or into N segments or even
  randomized segments!

Example lossless use cases

* Cut out commercials from a recorded TV show (and re-format from TS to
  MP4).
* Remove audio tracks from a file.
* Extract music track from a video and cut it to your needs.
* Add music to a video (or replace existing audio track).
* Combine audio and video tracks from separate recordings.
* Include an external subtitle into a video.
* Quickly change a H264/H265 MKV video to MOV or MP4 for playback on
  iPhone.
* Import a list of cut times from other tool as a EDL (edit decision list,
  CSV) and run these cuts with LosslessCut.
* Export a list of cut times as a CSV EDL and process these in another
  tool.
* Quickly cut a file by its MP4/MKV chapters.
* Quickly cut a YouTube video by its chapters (or music times from a
  comment).
* Change the language of a file's audio/subtitle tracks.
* Attach cover art to videos.
* Change author, title, GPS position, recording time of a video.
* Fix rotation of a video that has the wrong orientation flag set
- Great for rotating phone videos that come out the wrong way without
  actually re-encoding the video.
* Loop a video / audio clip X times quickly without re-encoding.
* Convert a video or parts of it into X image files (not lossless).

WARNING: Problem to package it for Debian: lossless-cut build depends of
 electron. See #842420.

  Description : Set of useful files to help to learn or test forensics
tools and techniques

 forensics-samples is a set of useful files to help to learn or test forensics
 tools and techniques. These files are examples of pictures, filesystems and
 other possible artifacts as memory dumps (not available yet).

 forensics-samples is useful for students and CI tests. The main intent of this
 work is provide a standardized set of files to avoid time waste in some tasks
 when learning about forensics or testing tools.

 There are some filesystem images available (currently: ext2, ext4, btrfs,
 NTFS, FAT2 (vfat) and extFAT). Inside each filesystem image, all files from
 "original-files" directory were copied and, after this, all directories ending
 with "2" in their names were deleted. Is possible use tools to analyse the
 files and their metadata or carvers to recover deleted files.

 On Debian, forensics-samples also is useful to provide files to be used by
 other packages in CI tests (autopkgtest), making several source-packages
 smallest (e.g.: metacam, ext4magic, foremost, magicrescue, scrounge-ntfs,
 etc). All you need is use it as a dependency for your test in
 debian/tests/control file.

I intend to orphan the volatility package.

The package description is:
 The Volatility Framework is a completely open collection of tools for
 the extraction of digital artifacts from volatile memory (RAM) samples.
 It is useful in forensics analysis. The extraction techniques are
 performed completely independent of the system being investigated but
 offer unprecedented visibility into the runtime state of the system.
 .
 Volatility supports memory dumps from all major 32- and 64-bit Windows
 versions and service packs. Whether your memory dump is in raw format,
 a Microsoft crash dump, hibernation file, or virtual machine snapshot,
 Volatility is able to work with it.
 .
 Linux memory dumps in raw or LiME format are supported too. There are
 several plugins for analyzing memory dumps from 32- and 64-bit Linux
 kernels and relevant distributions such as Debian, Ubuntu, openSUSE,
 RedHat, Fedora, CentOS, Mandriva, etc.
 .
 Volatility also support several versions of Mac OSX memory dumps, both
 32- and 64-bit. Android phones with ARM processors are also supported.
 .
 These are some of the data that can be extracted from a memory image:
- Image information (date, time, CPU count);
- Running processes;
- Open network sockets and connections;
- OS kernel modules loaded;
- Memory maps for each process;
- Executables samples;
- Command history;
- Suspicious process mappings (i.e. injected code);
- Passwords, as LM/NTLM hashes and LSA secrets;
- Cached Truecrypt passphrases;
- Others.
 .
 Current version (2.6) supports investigations of the memory images from
 the following operational systems:
- 32-bit Windows XP Service Pack 2 and 3
- 32-bit Windows 2003 Server Service Pack 0, 1, 2

Bug#951173: O: bittwist -- libpcap based Ethernet packet generator

2020-02-11 Thread Joao Eriberto Mota Filho
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I intend to orphan the bittwist package.

The package description is:
 bittwist (or Bit-Twist) is designed to complement tcpdump, which by itself has
 done a great job in capturing network traffic. Bit-Twist can regenerate the
 captured traffic onto a live network (the packets are generated from tcpdump
 trace file, generating a .pcap file).
 .
 Bit-Twist also comes with a comprehensive trace file editor to allow one to
 change the contents of a trace file (bittwiste).
 .
 Generally, a packet generator is useful in simulating networking traffic or
 scenario, testing firewall, IDS, and IPS, and troubleshooting various network
 problems.
 .
 The Bit-Twist features are:
 .
* runs on Mac OS X (and *BSD), Linux, and Windows;
* send multiple trace files at a time;
* send packets at a specific speed or line rate in Mbps;
* comprehensive trace file editor with control over most fields in
  Ethernet, ARP, IP, ICMP, TCP, and UDP headers with automatic header
  checksum correction;
* append user payload to existing packets after a specific header;
* select a specific range of packets and save them in another trace file;
* highly scriptable - with proper manipulation you can turn Bit-Twist
  into an extremely flexible packet generator tool;
* if you are teaching Computer Networks classes, you may find Bit-Twist
  useful as a practical teaching material. It gives your students a
  hands-on experience to learn various networking protocols etc.

Bug#951161: O: distorm3 -- powerful disassembler library for x86/AMD64 binary streams

2020-02-11 Thread Joao Eriberto Mota Filho
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I intend to orphan the distorm3 package.

The package description is:
 diStorm3 is a binary stream disassembler library project.
 .
 With diStorm3, no more parsing strings is needed. diStorm3 is really a
 decomposer, which means it takes an instruction and returns a binary
 structure which describes it rather than static text. This is great for
 advanced binary code analysis.
 .

Note: diStorm3 was useful for volatility, a project based in Python2 and
to be removed from Debian (or already removed).

* Package name: dnsenum
  Version : 1.3.0
  Upstream Author : Network Silence
* URL : https://github.com/SparrowOchon/dnsenum2
* License : GPL-2+
  Programming Lang: Perl
  Description : tool to enumerate domain DNS information

 Dnsenum is a multithreaded perl script to enumerate DNS information of a
 domain and to discover non-contiguous ip blocks. The main purpose of Dnsenum
 is to gather as much information as possible about a domain. The program
 currently performs the following operations:
 .
   1) Get the host's addresses (A record).
   2) Get the namservers (threaded).
   3) Get the MX record (threaded).
   4) Perform axfr queries on nameservers and get BIND versions(threaded).
   5) Get extra names and subdomains via google scraping (google query =
  "allinurl: -www site:domain").
   6) Brute force subdomains from file, can also perform recursion on subdomain
  that have NS records (all threaded).
   7) Calculate C class domain network ranges and perform whois queries on them
  (threaded).
   8) Perform reverse lookups on netranges (C class or/and whois netranges)
  (threaded).
   9) Write to domain_ips.txt file ip-blocks.
 .
 This program is useful for pentesters, ethical hackers and forensics experts.
 It also can be used for security tests.

I will maintain this package inside Debian Security Tools Packaging Team.

Bug#934276: O: rpl -- replace strings in files

2019-08-08 Thread Joao Eriberto Mota Filho
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I intend to orphan the rpl package.

The new upstream of rpl removed two significative options for me in last
version (1.6.0): -R and -x.

 -R, --recursive  Recurse into subdirectories.
 -xSUFFIX Search only files ending with SUFFIX, e.g. ''.txt''.
  May be specified multiple times.

Consequently, this package is no longer useful for me.

The package description is:
 rpl is an intelligent search and replacement utility. It will change strings
 with new strings in multiple text files at the same time.
 .
 rpl can verify, find and edit several plain texts quickly.

Maintaining a package requires time and skills. Please only adopt this
package if you will have enough time and attention to work on it.

instructions how to adopt a package properly.

Bug#921434: O: splitpatch -- split the patch up into files or hunks

2019-02-05 Thread Joao Eriberto Mota Filho
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I intend to orphan the splitpatch package.

The package description is:
 Divide a patch or diff file into pieces. The split can made by file
 or by hunk basis. This makes is possible to separate changes that
 might not be desirable or assemble the patch into more coherent set
 of changes.
 .
 The hunk option opens up possibility to compare similar patches
 hunk-by-hunk using tool like interdiff(1) from patchutils package.
 Operating on hunk level also gives more control, similar to Git, to
 selectively shelve in changes e.g. to Version Control repository.

IMPORTANT additonal information:
 Currently, splitpatch has two upstream places, managed by two distinct
 person (Benjamin Close[1] and Jari Aalto[2]). Jari doesn't allow one to
 sent issues to the project. He accepts pull requests only. It is a bit
 compicated because we can't forward bugs (does he want solutions only?).
 The Benjamin's repository is outdated in relation to Jari's repository.
 When I sent a pull request to Jari[3] he applied it. However, Chris Lamb
 had sent the same pull request to Benjamin[4] and it was closed with a
 explanation: "closing, because the new upstream is
 https://github.com/jaalto/splitpatch and it already merged the patch".
 I asked to Benjamin to release a new version because already there are
 several changes since 2017 (the last release)[5]. To my surprise, Jari
 answered, via Benjamin's repository, saying about no new releases possible.
 He also asked to Benjamin to apply the pull request from Chris. Well, we
 have a upstream (Jari) that seems want solutions only, not problems. There
 are some interesting information here[6][7]. The original upstream place
 is here[8].

I intend to orphan the outguess package.

The package description is:
 OutGuess is a universal tool for steganography that allows the insertion
 of hidden information into the redundant bits of data sources. The nature
 of the data source is irrelevant to the core of OutGuess.
 .
 The program relies on data specific handlers that will extract redundant
 bits and write them back after modification. The supported formats are
 JPEG, PPM and PNM.

Bug#849486: O: core-network -- intuitive network emulator that interacts with real nets (metapackage)

2016-12-27 Thread Joao Eriberto Mota Filho
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I intend to orphan the core-network package.

The package description is:
 The Common Open Research Emulator (CORE) is a tool for emulating
 networks in one or more machines. You can connect these emulated
 networks to live networks.
 .
 CORE consists of a GUI for drawing topologies of lightweight virtual
 machines, and Python modules for scripting network emulation.
 .
 Key features:
 .
   1. Network lab in a box
- Efficient and scalable
- Easy-to-use GUI canvas
- Centralized configuration and control
   2. Runs applications and protocols without modifying them
   3. Real-time connection to live networks
- Hardware-in-the-loop
- Distributed with multiple COREs
   4. Highly customizable
   5. The emulated machines can use several resources and programs
  installed on the real machine, as tcpdump.

IMPORTANT NOTICES:

- CORE is useful when testing or learning about several network environments.
  However...

- This package has a RC bug and the upstream does not have a solution. Please,

Bug#848676: O: diskscan -- scan storage media for bad or near failure sectors

2016-12-19 Thread Joao Eriberto Mota Filho
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I intend to orphan the diskscan package.

The package description is:
 diskscan is intended to find sectors of a storage medium
 (hard disk, flash drive or pendrive, etc.) which are bad
 or in the process of going bad.
 .
 The operation is entirely read-only and does not cause
 damage to the data on filesystems. As the program reads
 block device sectors, it will work whether there is a
 filesystem or not.
 .
 diskscan reads the entire block device and notes the time
 it took to read a block. When there is an error it is
 immediately noted and also when there is a higher latency
 to read a block. A histogram of the block latency times is
 also given to assess the health of the medium.
 .
 diskscan can also be used to test the speed and quality of
 the medium. All sectors of a perfect medium could be read
 at the same speed.

The package is updated and working fine. The upstream is
very responsive and already was a DD.

Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I intend to orphan the f3 package.

 have not been bought a card with a smaller capacity than stated. Note that
 the main goal of F3 is not to fix your removable media. However, there
 are resources to mark the invalid areas.
 .

 and f3probe.

The package is updated and working fine. The upstream is active.

Bug#835554: ITP: jdupes -- A powerful duplicate file finder

2016-10-09 Thread Eriberto Mota
Hi,

I agree with Christoph. This is an interesting alternative and is welcome.

I can sponsor this package. I also can package it, if you want, ever
since you implement this feature[1].

Bug#838848: ITP: bruteforce-salted-openssl -- try to find the passphrase for files encrypted with OpenSSL

2016-09-25 Thread Joao Eriberto Mota Filho
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Joao Eriberto Mota Filho

* Package name: bruteforce-salted-openssl
  Version : 1.3.1
  Upstream Author : Guillaume LE VAILLANT
* URL : https://github.com/glv2/bruteforce-salted-openssl
* License : GPL-3 with OpenSSL exception
  Programming Lang: C
  Description : try to find the passphrase for files encrypted with OpenSSL

 bruteforce-salted-openssl try to find the passphrase or password of a file
 that was encrypted with the openssl command. It can be used in two ways:
 .
- Try all possible passwords given a charset.
- Try all passwords in a file (dictionary).
 .
 bruteforce-salted-openssl have the following features:
 .
- You can specify the number of threads to use when cracking a file.
- The program should be able to use all the digests and symmetric ciphers
  available with the OpenSSL libraries installed on your system.
- Sending a USR1 signal to a running bruteforce-salted-openssl process
  makes it print progress and continue.
- There are an exhaustive mode and a dictionary mode.
 .
 In the exhaustive mode the program tries to decrypt the file by trying all
 possible passwords. It is especially useful if you know something about the
 password (i.e. you forgot a part of your password but still remember most of
 it). Finding the password of the file without knowing anything about it would
 take way too much time (unless the password is really short and/or weak).
 There are some command line options to specify:
 .
- The minimum password length to try.
- The maximum password length to try.
- The beginning of the password.
- The end of the password.
- The character set to use (among the characters of the current locale).
 .
 In dictionary mode the program tries to decrypt the file by trying all the
 passwords contained in a file. The file must have one password per line.
 .
 This package is useful for security tests and forensics investigations.

Bug#833486: O: yowsup -- library to implement a WhatsApp client

2016-08-04 Thread Joao Eriberto Mota Filho
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I intend to orphan the yowsup package.

Yowsup is a very good WhatsApp client implementation. However, the constant
changes in protocol makes a bit hard to maintain this package (specially in
Debian stable). The dependencies aren't updated and it is impeditive to
release a new Debian revision.

I don't think that Yowsup must be removed from Debian. I suggest to wait a
more stable version of WhatsApp protocol. I believe that it will occur in
a medium time (one or two years).

The package description is:
 WhatsApp Messenger is a cross-platform mobile messaging app
 which allows you to exchange messages, via Internet, without
 having to pay for SMS, using a mobile phone.
 .
 In addition to basic messaging, WhatsApp users can create
 groups, send each other unlimited images, video and audio
 media messages.
 .
 Yowsup is a cross platform Python library that enable to do all
 the previous in your own app. Yowsup allows you to login and use
 the WhatsApp service, providing all capabilities of an official
 WhatsApp client, allowing to create a full-fledged custom
 WhatsApp client.
 .
 python-yowsup has these features:
- Registration.
- Text send/receive.
- Encryption of messages.
- Media send/receive (images, videos, audio, location,
  contact cards).
- Groups(create, leave, join, update picture, updating
  subject).
- Fetch user profile picture.
- Fetch user status.
- Set profile picture.
- Set group icon.
- Set status and others.
  .
  The package yowsup-cli is a good example of the python-yowsup
  implementation.

I am suggesting sxiv because it is a very light and efficient image
viewer. It so few dependencies and I recommend it for forensics
analisys.

It is a simple suggestion only. The suggests field can be used to
suggest a program that will be useful if used with the package. The
content of suggests field isn't installed. Advanced users will ignore
this field and use the his own option. The newbie users will take
advantage of this.
