Bug#575717: RFP: runawk -- Wrapper for AWK interpreter implementing modules

Hello,

I won't be packaging runawk as I no longer need it and packaging
proved more difficult then anticipated. Although runawk is a useful
program, in my case igawk had sufficient functionality.

Future packagers note that the build system of this package needs
bmake (#627983) and mk-configure, both not (yet) part of Debian.

Kind regards,

Jeroen Schot

Hello,

As it turns out this package is not needed for bmake and as such I do
not have the need for this package in Debian at this moment. I do
think that it would be a useful addition (once bmake is packaged).
Because it is not really tied to bmake a different package name would
be more appropriate. A suggested name is sjg-mk-files.

Bug#627983: ITP: bmake -- Portable version of NetBSD's make

2011-05-30 Thread Jeroen Schot
Hello,

 There's also FreeBSD's pmake as freebsd-make in the freebsd-buildutils
 package.

Yes, but after 15+ years these two have diverged. There is software
that needs bmake to build, and doesn't work with freebsd-make or
Debian's older pmake.

But pmake is a manual sync from NetBSD and thus difficult to maintain
  (and as a consequence outdated).

bmake also seems to be synced from NetBSD from time to time. And as
stated on its web page it seems to be just a portability fork of
NetBSD's pmake, so it might make more sense to ask the Debian pmake
maintainer (CCed) if he is interested in switching to that version
instead of uploading yet another pmake implementation?

Yes, synced by a upstream that does the portability stuff for us (and
has been doing this actively for the last 10+ years). The Debian pmake
maintainer has been notified about bmake (see #476267 and #605623)
some time ago and didn't respond. But I confess I have not contacted
him personally and am interested in his opinion about this.

  Bmake has a active upstream.

Well the pmake Debian package has the same upstream as bmake, so that
by itself does not seem to be an advantage over the others. :)

I disagree: bmake has the same up(up)stream as pmake, but pmake has a
different upstream than bmake :)

Description : Portable collection of mk-files for bmake

Bmake-mk-files contains macros for use with bmake. These macros make it
easy to create simple makefiles that just work on many different
systems.

The *.mk files were originally modelled after NetBSD's
/usr/share/mk/*.mk, but have diverged over time and are not backwards
compatible.

simple. So if you are looking for a simple package to get experience in

Very good. Consider me your sponsor. Feel free to increase the revision
number, set yourself as maintainer and add me in the Uploaders: field.

Great, I created a package of the new upstream version and uploaded it to
mentors.debian.net. Please check it out at:
