2015-02-13 Thread Miriam Ruiz
The sankore-ThirdParty stuff hasn't changed since 2012 (
https://github.com/Sankore/Sankore-ThirdParty/commits/master ), but
the most recent changes to the program itself are from January this
year ( https://github.com/Sankore/Sankore-3.1/commits/master ). Have
you already mixed them or do you prefer for me to prepare a working
package from those sources and the current git repo?

(I left the upstream and master branches where they were before I
stepped in, and started working on a wip/master branch).

The first challenging bit might be to get rid of the sankore-ThirdParty
code copy from the build system, I’ll start working on that now.

Anyone is more than welcome to commit any improvement to wip/master or
any new branch (maybe we should keep master as is until we have
 something working).

We may use this bug report to coordinate our efforts to bring sankore
 into Debian, debian-edu-pkg-t...@lists.alioth.debian.org is another
option (It doesn’t look too noisy).

This really sounds horribly stereotyped. (Though I'm sure we already
have other games that are similarly problematic in other ways.)

Please, at least let people decide for themselves who it's for?

I've already changed it to to kids age 8 to 12. Do you think I
should also remove a reference to th age target, or just the gendered
one?

I know that the maintainer of a package is free to choose the long

telling users that only boys or girls can play this or that game?

Hi Joss,

That's a perfectly valid complaint. I was already suggested by other
two people yesterday to change that, and I've tried to remove all the

are any references missing, I took care of changing all of them [1]

You play Maddeline, a young girl on her sweet sixteen, who will walk the

you look ruined by the dirty dogs and the bad language of the Viking man.
Watch out not to get late. Avoid playing with the butterflies.

With a lot of strategy, a bit of luck and the right look, you'll be

The game has some very nice graphics and music. It was made after a board
game with the same name.

If you have a recent version of git-buildpackage installed, the importing of
 orig.tar.compressformat is very easy.

  $ cd path/to/workingcopy/of/sankore
  $ debian/rules get-git-source
  $ git-import-orig --pristine-tar --sign-tags
../sankore_2.00~git20130309.orig.tar.bz2

I have just performed that step and committed the changes to [1].

Thanks :)

All is left is to review debian/copyright so that includes all the
copyrights, specially all those from third parties... sigh :)

If any of you test in your computers the packages in git, please tell
me if there are any issues. It should compile in squeeze too (I
haven't upgraded compat to 9 yet because of that, and I added the
patch needed for backwards compatibility with squeeze).

It seems that Open-Sankoré has been relicensed to GPL v3 [1]. I'll

consider finally uploading it to Debian, aftyer re-checking licenses

Bug#694682: Packages for Debian/Ubuntu of pySioGame 0.4.0 beta and translation to Spanish

2012-11-30 Thread Miriam Ruiz
2012/11/30 Ireneusz Imiolek imiole...@googlemail.com:

There's no problem with the images - they are all either in public domain or
built by me (either from scratch or by modifying the public domain ones) -
so consider them public domain - they were downloaded mainly from
openclipart.org, some from Tango Project and the koala from wikipedia (but I
think it was public domain as well), quite a lot of links in the credits.txt
file (but some of the linked images not used yet - I used this file as a
shortlist of everything that I have downloaded for the game) - this file is
 in the game home folder.

Cool! Wikipedia I think it's CC-by-sa, I'll have a look at it to
check. Thanks :)

There could be a little problem with the sounds - they are Creative Commons
Attribution licence (only 5 simple sounds used in game so probably would
have to replace them with something else at some point, or remove them
altogether), and with the fonts I have used but can't track the
creator/licence of some fonts - mainly the Hand fonts they are listed as
freeware, but no info on licence. I attempted to recreate/combine the
handwriting fonts all in one (latin, cyrlic, greek, etc.), but creating
fonts is harder than I thought so I failed on that - links to the fonts used
in the game are in the credits.txt as well. Sorry at the moment I don't know
how to go around it, unless we change the game in the way that we don't use
the non public domain stuff, but it would mean removal of some games and
changes to others - in fact all of those that use handwriting at any point
(learn to write, alphabets, numbers, etc).

CC-by license is okay, it's DFSG-free, I just need to add the
copyright owner and license explicitly to the debian/copyright file :)

I'll have a look at the fonts, and see if I can think something about
them, maybe just replacing them with similar DFSG-free fonts. I'll
write back about that :)

Please let me know if there is anything you would like me to do/change to
make it acceptable for the Debian official repos and thanks for your time
trying to get it there :)

Thanks!! I will!! :)

Greetings,
Miry

Bug#471927: Sound plugins: pulse / OSS?

2012-06-15 Thread Miriam Ruiz
2012/6/13 Amos Blanton a...@scratch.mit.edu:
I notice that the package Miry currently has up is using the OSS sound
plugin for the squeakvm (with a pulse wrapper if pulse is detected).
Unfortunately, sound recording doesn't work and playback is very choppy on
my system when using the OSS plugin. I believe the ALSA plugin has similar
 problems.

I believe the pulse plugin will work well on 32 bit systems, but currently
 seg faults on 64 bit.

In any case - does Debian use pulse? What would be the preferred sound
solution for Debian, and is it likely to be compatible with Ubuntu?

If the issue is the -vm-sound-oss parameter given to squeakvm, I can
think of a couple of possibilities:

1) create different starting scripts for each system, possibly
selecting the preferred one via alternatives
2) use a default parameter, and allow to modify it via environment variables

What about something like this? Any better idea?

Greetings,
Miry

 Hi,

 I can't find sources for Help/en/*.pdf files.

Hi Luca,

The source for ScratchGettingStartedv14.pdf is available in Word and
OpenOffice/LibreOffice format at [1], and it can easily be added to the source
package if needed. ScratchReferenceGuide14.pdf comes only from an Adobe
InDesign source, and in HTML. The only Free / Open Source alternative for
InDesign that I know of is Scribus, and it doesn't seem to handle them. There
doesn't seem to be a nice way of converting it, in [2] it is suggested to use
.ps or .eps as an intermediate step. The HTML might be another option, the most
evident one. Would that be valid? Any other ideas?

Greetings and thanks,
Miry

Bug#471927: [Scratch] Scratch 1.4 source code released under GPL v2

2012-04-05 Thread Miriam Ruiz
2012/4/5 Amos Blanton a...@scratch.mit.edu:

According to strace, when running scratch on the latest squeak-vm the
system seems to be waiting forever to several resources that do not
 exist:
 - /usr/share/icons/DMZ-White/cursors/041870e1c79f7f3e7cc803061830
 - /usr/share/pixmaps/DMZ-White/cursors/041870e1c79f7f3e7cc803061830
 - /home/inniyah/.icons/DMZ-White/cursors/041870e1c79f7f3e7cc803061830

The funny thing is that it seems that the older machine was also
looking for them, and didn't find them, but kept trying for a couple
of times and then went on. I don't know where these numbers come from,
 żany ideas?

 Hi Miry,
I asked John Maloney, the lead developer of Scratch, and he said that those
cursor paths aren't part of the Scratch code. So it sounds like it's a VM
 issue.

Sorry we can't be more helpful...

Lots of thanks, knowing that the problem does not lay within Scratch
itself is indeed very useful :)

Bug#471927: [Scratch] Scratch 1.4 source code released under GPL v2

2012-04-05 Thread Miriam Ruiz
I've just found out something that might be a problem:

Scratch Support materials (/Help), sample Media files (/Media), and
sample projects (/Projects), are licensed under the Creative Commons
Attribution-ShareAlike 2.0 Generic (CC BY-SA 2.0) license. To view a
copy of this license, visit
http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.0/ or send a letter to
Creative Commons, 444 Castro Street, Suite 900, Mountain View,
California, 94041, USA.

While Debian recognizes as DFSG-free CC BY-SA 3.0, there were AFAIK
issues with the version 2.0 of the license that were considered not
DFSG-free. Would there be any possibility of relicensing this stuff as
CC BY-SA 3.0 instead of the current 2.0 version?

Greetings and thanks,
Miry

PS: I'll keep working on the latest VM issues meanwhile.

I also think that the current text describing the trademark license

Yup, I agree with your POV here. I don't expect big problems from
ftpmasters, I hope we're right :)

Of course, folks should know that changes to the license were done in
order to help Scratch into Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora, etc. If there
happen to be any lingering concerns, we can probably work with the

Yup, Definitely!

Yup, I agree with your POV here. I don't expect big problems from

A more fundamental issue could be a potential show stopper. Take a look
at the etoys package -- technically similar, FOSS license, but still in
non-free. Below a full quote from the source package's README.nonfree:

As long as the image itself is the source the preferred format for
modification) and is included in the package with a free license, my
opinion is that DFSG's are fulfilled. If ftpmasters don't see it that
way, we'll have to push the conflict upwards. I don't plan on
uploading it to non-free, as it is indeed a free package.

Lets wait and see, though, and move from there when/if it happens. For
the moment I'm more concerned about making it work with latest

While the Scratch source code has long been available under the Scratch

easier for distros like Red Hat and Ubuntu to make Scratch available in
 their repositories.

Many thanks to all who have contributed their efforts to helping Scratch run

 this release possible.

Description : a new way to learn the piano just by playing a game

Piano Booster is a new way to learn the piano just by playing a game.
It takes elements of the game Guitar Hero but now it uses a real piano
keyboard and the game has been turned sideways so the notes scroll along
a musical stave. So instead of pressing buttons on a fake guitar you end
up learning to play a real musical instrument: the piano.

Phlipple is a unique puzzle game. The goal of every level is to reduce

to teach the basics just to later on serve hours of brain tickling fun.
It's a great way to train memory as well as orientation in 3D.

Periodic Calendar is a GUI application which assists in women menstrual
cycles tracking and fertility periods prediction. This information can
be used as supportive either for conception or contraception planning.

Periodic Calendar provides support for BBT and sympto-thermal methods
which have the highest reliability in fertility periods prediction. User
can choose any subset of the features to be used or even fall to the
 generic
calendar method (which if used alone is very unreliable).

Authors of the Periodic Calendar still insist on not being an equal
substitute to the fertility planning consultants or doctors. Before
using this application please talk to your doctor or read a good book
 on the subject.

THIS PROGRAM PREDICTIONS IN NO CASES CAN BE USED AS FINAL. THE METHODS USED
ARE NOT 100% EFFECTIVE FOR ALL WOMEN.

Bug#637835: Scratch: Question about the license of the plugins

2011-08-15 Thread Miriam Ruiz
Hi,

I'm trying to package the Squeak plugins needed for Scratch and
derivatives on Linux [1], for Debian. AFAIK, those plugins are
distributed under a MIT license [2], but I want to make sure of that
before uploading anything to the archive. Could you possibly confirm
that the code available at [3] is distributed under the license shown
in [2]?

I'm asking because it seems that Scratch itself doesn't comply with
the DFSG [4], and thus cannot be distributed in Debian's main archive
[5].

Lots of thanks,
Miry

2011-08-15 Thread Miriam Ruiz
I think both of these clauses fail to meet DFSG.

While that might be true for scratch itself, AFAIK the whole code for
the plugins is MIT licensed [0] [1]. Those plugins are not only used
by Scratch itself, but also by a number of derivative projects [2] [3]
[4]. I'm personally interested in BYOB [2], not in Scratch.

Yes, the plugins are under the MIT open source license, and I believe Squeak
is under an Linux-friendly open source license (can't remember which).

The rest of the Scratch source -- the part written in Smalltalk -- is under
the Scratch license which, as you say, is a barrier to distribution on some

That clarifies it. Lots of thanks! :)

Bug#591302: About 7kaa

2011-03-15 Thread Miriam Ruiz
Hi Bertrand,

I have taken a look at 7kaa, I want to upload it. As a suggestion, I'd
rather edit the source to look in absolute directories, instead of
using a wrapper:

./configure $(CROSS) \
--prefix=/usr \
--bindir=\$${prefix}/games \
--datarootdir=\$${prefix}/share \
--datarootdir=\$${prefix}/share/games \
--mandir=\$${prefix}/share/man \
--infodir=\$${prefix}/share/info \
CFLAGS=$(CFLAGS) \
LDFLAGS=-Wl,-z,defs -Wl,--as-needed -Wl,--no-undefined

I want to make some changes in the packaging in SVN before uploading,
is that OK with you? I'll tell you after commiting them and before
uploading, in case you want to change anything.

Greetings,
Miry

Bug#570621: Parsing output = derivative work?

2011-03-15 Thread Miriam Ruiz
2011/3/8 Mahyuddin Susanto udi...@ubuntu.com:
Parsing the output of a program doesn’t make a derivative work. However,
if this parsing is vital for the operation of the application and makes
it useless without that program, what is the difference with dynamic
linking to a library? To a programmer, there might be one, but to a
 court, there wouldn’t be any.

 Thanks for CCing to debian-legal
anyway, i'm really confused for this packages, but i'm open for input
 for a best solutions

In general, I wouldn't consider parsing the output of another program
to de a derivative work. According to the GPL FAQ [1]:

Where's the line between two separate programs, and one program with
two parts? This is a legal question, which ultimately judges will
decide. We believe that a proper criterion depends both on the
mechanism of communication (exec, pipes, rpc, function calls within a
shared address space, etc.) and the semantics of the communication
(what kinds of information are interchanged).

If the modules are included in the same executable file, they are
definitely combined in one program. If modules are designed to run
linked together in a shared address space, that almost surely means
combining them into one program.

By contrast, pipes, sockets and command-line arguments are
communication mechanisms normally used between two separate programs.
So when they are used for communication, the modules normally are
separate programs. But if the semantics of the communication are
intimate enough, exchanging complex internal data structures, that too
could be a basis to consider the two parts as combined into a larger
program.

 Hi Miriam,

Thanks for your work on 7kaa ! Especially for the use of the new config
chain with autotools, which I know only a little. I had a look at your work
and I have a couple of questions. I am still shy to change something a DD
 did, therefore I didn't commit anything :

Don't worry, there's usually not a single way to do things, and your
proposals will probably be as good as mine. In any case, if there's
some problem, we can always revert them :)

 * the clean target depends on the config target. Is it standard ? It makes
my usual command line to build with pdebuild fail.

Nah, you can safely remove it. I'll change it in SVN.

 * I read carefully /usr/share/doc/autotools-dev/README.Debian.gz which I
didn't know. As I understand it, their advice is to rerun all the autotools
before config (method 1). I also understood that the files generated by
autotools should be purged by the clean target and should not even be in the
orig tarball. Again, I never packaged anything using autotools and I am
quite new to this so correct me if I'm wrong.

That's an option, but to prevent problems I tend not to rerun it
unless I have patched the autotools source, which wasn't needed here.
If you want to rerun it, it would be OK too. Except in some cases,
there are usually no big problems.

 * Last, there seems to be dh_autotools-dev_restoreconfig and
dh_autotools-dev_updateconfig to copy the config.* files. Isn't it better
(more robust) to use these ?

I've never tried them, but feel free to use them if you want :)

 Cheers,
 Bertrand

Miry

Not problem. Just let us know when you have time.
I set up a git repo to maintain this package at
 http://git.debian.org/?p=collab-maint/turpial.git.
With that the review and modifications should be more easy to do.

 Hi Miriam!

Since upstream released a new version recently I was
wondering if you had any chance to take a look at this?

I uploaded preliminary source[1] and binary[2] packages and you
also can review the git[3] repository.

Sorry for the delay. I finally had time to look at it, but I've
noticed that debian/copyright is missing some copyright lines. At
least turpial/api/protocols/twitter/oauth.py shows some Copyright (c)
2007 Leah Culver under the MIT license and
turpial/api/services/uploadpic/pyTweetPhoto.py a Copyright (c)
2010/2009, Marcel Caraciolo with a BSD license. debian/copyright
should reflect both of them, as well as the copyright of the packaging
itself (Copyright (C) 2010, Efrain Valles Pulgar and Miguel
Landaeta, I guess). ¿Could yo correct that, please? otherwise
ftpmasters will reject it.

Greetings,
Miry

PS: I'm really really sorry for the delay

2010/12/15 Miguel Landaeta mig...@miguel.cc:
 Hi Miriam!

Hi!

I just wanted to know if maybe you are interested in
sponsoring the package prepared by Efrain Valles.

Since a couple of months I began to contribute with that
packaging effort and now I think it is practically ready
 to be included in Debian.

I would have appreciated to be contacted beforehand, so that we
wouldn't have been working at the same time on the same package :P

Maybe you could be interested to take a look at the package
that I prepared (95% of the work was done by Efrain). It
is available at my alioth space:

 http://alioth.debian.org/~nomadium-guest/debian/unstable/turpial_1.4.9-a26-2.dsc
 http://alioth.debian.org/~nomadium-guest/debian/unstable/turpial_1.4.9-a26-2_all.deb

I'll take a look at it. I'll try to make it ASAP, but I'm not sure to
have spare time until the weekend.

If you are still interested in this package, we would be
 glad to be comaintainers.

That would be OK for me, but if you prefer to keep maintaining it by
yourselves, I can sponsor it, and I have no problem at all with that
either. I'm a bit overloaded with the packages I'm already
maintaining, and I have more I want to upload, so that would be OK for
me :)

Greetings,
Miry

as well as speed and flexibility, and its primary feature is the ability

both indexing and searching: when an index doesn't exist, Zettair will
create one for you based on the parameters you provide, and when you do
have an index, Zettair will use that index to search the indexed data.
Zettair has a simple command-line interface, and supports ranked, simple

2010-01-31 Thread Miriam Ruiz
2010/1/31 Joachim Breitner nome...@debian.org:

So my bottom line would be: Packaging for Haskell-written programs is
_welcome_ in the group if it’s convenient (e.g. because the maintainer
needs sponsoring, or the package is part of a larger set that includes
libraries anyways), but I don’t see the need to actively advocate it.

Also, having lots of packages in the pool that need special handling
(like programs where you have to worry about stuff like desktop files
and whatnot) might dilute the groups’ efficiency.

Yup, that makes sense. It's probably a good idea to keep haskell-sdl
in the Haskell group, and maintain the game itself in the Debian Games
Team :)

BTW: Miriam, if you want to maintain haskell-sdl on the DHG, I hope
you’ll join the d-haskell list, in which case I can take you off CC.

Yup, I already did, thanks :)

Miry, you said you had almost-working packages. How far did you get? Did
you go around the hard-coded Makefile? I considered remaking the
build-system and sending it upstream, but I have no idea how receptive
he'd be, considering the apparently aggressive optimizations made
 specifically for the Maemo platform...

I redid the whole building system, as far as I remember, and had fully

  Description : omnidirectional shooting game

Area 2048 is an excellent retro-type shooter, in which the player has to
clear each room packed with enemies before being allowed to proceed to the
next. Every few maps you get a boss enemy.

While the game is a very entertaining shooter, in true innovative Japanese
freeware style, the really remarkable feature of the game is the very intuitive
 interface and user controls.

Bug#527962: ITP: jstest-gtk -- joystick testing and configuration tool

2009-05-09 Thread Miriam Ruiz
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Miriam Ruiz little_m...@yahoo.es

* Package name: jstest-gtk
  Version : 0.1.0
Upstream Author : Ingo Ruhnke grum...@gmx.de
* URL : http://pingus.seul.org/~grumbel/jstest-gtk/
* License : GPL3+
  Programming Lang: C++
Description : joystick testing and configuration tool

jstest-gtk is a simple joystick tester based on Gtk+. It provides a list of
attached joysticks, a way to display which buttons and axis are pressed,
a way to remap axis and buttons and a way to calibrate your joystick.
 .
Even when your joystick is working mostly fine, you might want to give it a
try, as the calibration lets you get rid of overlarge default deadzones that
many joysticks use and then is a noticeable problem in some games.

Bug#482680: Calibre 0.5.1 in my git tree

2009-03-16 Thread Miriam Ruiz
2009/3/16 John Goerzen jgoer...@complete.org:
 Hi folks,

I updated the 0.4.125+dfsg packages to Calibre 0.5.1.  You can get the
 result with

 git clone git://git.debian.org/users/jgoerzen/calibre

(note - I am unsure if I got the non-DFSG-free components removed)

Cool, I'll try to have a look at it as soon as I can.

You're of course welcome if you want to help with the package :)

Do any of you intend to upload it to sid?

Yup, 0.4.143+dfsg-1 is currently waiting in the NEW queue [1] :)

Greetings,
Miry

This is definitely a package which should be added to
the tasks files[1]. I have not recieved any answer to
my mail about editing the Debian Jr. tasks files. [2]

Sorry, I'm being extremelly busy these weeks, that's why I'm not that active. I
hope to solve that soon and be back to normal.

I'm really unsure whether this kind of help is welcome
or not and I even have to admit that I'm not able to
continue with this job as the only one. There is no
problem in just doing *some* edits or helping out in case
of questions but as long as I have no response at all
I'm completely unsure whether this is welcome at all.

Help is definitely welcome, I'll try to get back to doing more things in Debian
as soon as I can.

My plan is to get Platinum Arts Sandbox as soon as I can, hopefully this week,
lets see if I find the time. Peg-e is already packaged, but I doubt I'll push
it into Debian before Lenny release.

Even though I would like to, and it's a cute game, I don't think I'll put
Anagramarama in Debian because of the hard work that would mean to
internationalize it.

Stagavorto still has some licensing issues, so it won't fit in main for the
moment. I'm in conversations with upstream to fix that.

Sorry for the delay, this last week has been a really busy one.

Miry

I wanted to package numpty physics for Debian and found your ITP. I
wondered if you have already packaged it or if you would be interested
in co-maintaining it inside the Debian Games Team. I already have
working packages ready, even though they're not finished yet.
