Bug#775456: ITP: sankore -- interactive whiteboard interface
The sankore-ThirdParty stuff hasn't changed since 2012 ( https://github.com/Sankore/Sankore-ThirdParty/commits/master ), but the most recent changes to the program itself are from January this year ( https://github.com/Sankore/Sankore-3.1/commits/master ). Have you already mixed them or do you prefer for me to prepare a working package from those sources and the current git repo? 2012/11/30 Ireneusz Imiolek imiole...@googlemail.com: There's no problem with the images - they are all either in public domain or built by me (either from scratch or by modifying the public domain ones) - so consider them public domain - they were downloaded mainly from openclipart.org, some from Tango Project and the koala from wikipedia (but I think it was public domain as well), quite a lot of links in the credits.txt file (but some of the linked images not used yet - I used this file as a shortlist of everything that I have downloaded for the game) - this file is in the game home folder. Cool! Wikipedia I think it's CC-by-sa, I'll have a look at it to check. Thanks :) There could be a little problem with the sounds - they are Creative Commons Attribution licence (only 5 simple sounds used in game so probably would have to replace them with something else at some point, or remove them altogether), and with the fonts I have used but can't track the creator/licence of some fonts - mainly the Hand fonts they are listed as freeware, but no info on licence. I attempted to recreate/combine the handwriting fonts all in one (latin, cyrlic, greek, etc.), but creating fonts is harder than I thought so I failed on that - links to the fonts used in the game are in the credits.txt as well. Sorry at the moment I don't know how to go around it, unless we change the game in the way that we don't use the non public domain stuff, but it would mean removal of some games and changes to others - in fact all of those that use handwriting at any point (learn to write, alphabets, numbers, etc). CC-by license is okay, it's DFSG-free, I just need to add the copyright owner and license explicitly to the debian/copyright file :) I'll have a look at the fonts, and see if I can think something about them, maybe just replacing them with similar DFSG-free fonts. I'll write back about that :) Please let me know if there is anything you would like me to do/change to make it acceptable for the Debian official repos and thanks for your time trying to get it there :) Thanks!! Bug#471927: Sound plugins: pulse / OSS?
2012/6/13 Amos Blanton a...@scratch.mit.edu: I notice that the package Miry currently has up is using the OSS sound plugin for the squeakvm (with a pulse wrapper if pulse is detected). Unfortunately, sound recording doesn't work and playback is very choppy on my system when using the OSS plugin. I believe the ALSA plugin has similar problems. I believe the pulse plugin will work well on 32 bit systems, but currently seg faults on 64 bit. In any case - does Debian use pulse? What would be the preferred sound solution for Debian, and is it likely to be compatible with Ubuntu? If the issue is the -vm-sound-oss parameter given to squeakvm, I can think of a couple of possibilities: 1) create different starting scripts for each system, possibly selecting the preferred one via alternatives 2) use a default parameter, and allow to modify it via environment variables What about something like this? Hi Luca, The source for ScratchGettingStartedv14.pdf is available in Word and OpenOffice/LibreOffice format at [1], and it can easily be added to the source package if needed. ScratchReferenceGuide14.pdf comes only from an Adobe InDesign source, and in HTML. The only Free / Open Source alternative for InDesign that I know of is Scribus, and it doesn't seem to handle them. I've made an initial version of the package for version 0.9, and added it to the Debian Games Team SVN repository: http://anonscm.debian.org/viewvc/pkg-games/packages/trunk/dccnitghtmare/ The packages already compile and are playable, but there is still some work to do, though. Bug#471927: [Scratch] Scratch 1.4 source code released under GPL v2
I've just found out something that might be a problem: Scratch Support materials (/Help), sample Media files (/Media), and sample projects (/Projects), are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 2.0 Generic (CC BY-SA 2.0) license. To view a copy of this license, visit http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.0/ or send a letter to Creative Commons, 444 Castro Street, Suite 900, Mountain View, California, 94041, USA. While Debian recognizes as DFSG-free CC BY-SA 3.0, there were AFAIK issues with the version 2.0 of the license that were considered not DFSG-free. Would there be any possibility of relicensing this stuff as CC BY-SA 3.0 instead of the current 2.0 version? Yup, I agree with your POV here. I don't expect big problems from ftpmasters, I hope we're right :) A more fundamental issue could be a potential show stopper. Take a look at the etoys package -- technically similar, FOSS license, but still in non-free. Below a full quote from the source package's README.nonfree: As long as the image itself is the source the preferred format for modification) and is included in the package with a free license, my opinion is that DFSG's are fulfilled. Hi Bertrand, I have taken a look at 7kaa, I want to upload it. Bug#570621: Parsing output = derivative work?
2011/3/8 Mahyuddin Susanto udi...@ubuntu.com: Parsing the output of a program doesn’t make a derivative work. However, if this parsing is vital for the operation of the application and makes it useless without that program, what is the difference with dynamic linking to a library? To a programmer, there might be one, but to a court, there wouldn’t be any. Thanks for CCing to debian-legal anyway, i'm really confused for this packages, but i'm open for input for a best solutions In general, I wouldn't consider parsing the output of another program to de a derivative work. According to the GPL FAQ [1]: Where's the line between two separate programs, and one program with two parts? This is a legal question, which ultimately judges will decide. We believe that a proper criterion depends both on the mechanism of communication (exec, pipes, rpc, function calls within a shared address space, etc.) and the semantics of the communication (what kinds of information are interchanged). If the modules are included in the same executable file, they are definitely combined in one program. If modules are designed to run linked together in a shared address space, that almost surely means combining them into one program. By contrast, pipes, sockets and command-line arguments are communication mechanisms normally used between two separate programs. So when they are used for communication, the modules normally are separate programs. But if the semantics of the communication are intimate enough, exchanging complex internal data structures, that too could be a basis to consider the two parts as combined into a larger program. I'll upload it to Debian when I get the green light from you :) Greetings, Miry Hi Miriam, Thanks for your work on 7kaa ! Especially for the use of the new config chain with autotools, which I know only a little. I had a look at your work and I have a couple of questions. I am still shy to change something a DD did, therefore I didn't commit anything : Don't worry, there's usually not a single way to do things, and your proposals will probably be as good as mine. In any case, if there's some problem, we can always revert them :) * the clean target depends on the config target. Is it standard ? It makes my usual command line to build with pdebuild fail. Nah, you can safely remove it. I'll change it in SVN. * I read carefully /usr/share/doc/autotools-dev/README.Debian.gz which I didn't know. As I understand it, their advice is to rerun all the autotools before config (method 1). I also understood that the files generated by autotools should be purged by the clean target and should not even be in the orig tarball. Again, I never packaged anything using autotools and I am quite new to this so correct me if I'm wrong. That's an option, but to prevent problems I tend not to rerun it unless I have patched the autotools source, which wasn't needed here. If you want to rerun it, it would be OK too. Except in some cases, there are usually no big problems. * Last, there seems to be dh_autotools-dev_restoreconfig and dh_autotools-dev_updateconfig to copy the config.* files. Isn't it better (more robust) to use these ? I've never tried them, but feel free to use them if you want :) Cheers, Bertrand Greetings, Miry -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-wnpp-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Also, having lots of packages in the pool that need special handling (like programs where you have to worry about stuff like desktop files and whatnot) might dilute the groups’ efficiency. Yup, that makes sense. It's probably a good idea to keep haskell-sdl in the Haskell group, and maintain the game itself in the Debian Games Team :) BTW: Miriam, if you want to maintain haskell-sdl on the DHG, I hope you’ll join the d-haskell list, in which case I can take you off CC. I redid the whole building system, as far as I remember, and had fully working packages.
