Hi

Wonderful!

It would be great if someone else take over. Please remove me as uploader.
I have maintained it for many years now and it is time for someone else to
take it over.

Bug#654924: [Pkg-tigervnc-devel] Bug#654924: Re: Helping with tigervnc 1.5.0

2016-05-30 Thread Ola Lundqvist
Hi Martin

Good point about the depth. I guess we should consider that.

Regarding -localhost, yes that is a good security practice. On the other
hand this is nothing that is started by default, it is always started by a
human (or a human writing a script for it) so it is not a very important
thing.

However there are plenty of use-cases for connecting to local host. You can
run applications in a chroot, you can have a different desktop session as
another user in the vnc server, you can have that server running there with
more important tasks that must survive in case you have to restart your
desktop session and so on. So there are plenty of use-cases. However they
may not be the most common ones of course.

I think we should try to finalize 1.5 first, unless we see major issues
with that, or if you know what they have fixed important things in 1.6.

Bug#586418: ITA: lightspeed -- Shows how objects moving at relativistic speeds look like

2014-07-08 Thread Ola Lundqvist
Hej Alexander

Looking at the package again I must admit that I can not. Also looking at
the changelog I basically just did one real correction upload in 2006 when
I took it over. It looks like it was A Mennucc1 mennu...@debian.org that
did all the work.

Cheers

Bug#654924: Inclusion of TigerVNC sources

2012-04-09 Thread Ola Lundqvist
Hi

How dependent is the patched xorg code on the tigervnc source? Is it
so that we could provide a -dev module from tigervnc that we could
use from xorg source? In the past they have been extremely dependent
on each other but I do not know if that has changed.

I am happy with any approach. I am just more used to handling things
  with pristine-tar...

yes -- this would probably be the easiest/most straightforward way at
the moment, so just keep it this way, and let me just blurb about this
alternative approach I had in mind:

I have just moved the git submodule code out of the way in favour of
tarball imports with pristine-tar. As far as I understand, the xorg
source has to be in the package,

one shouldn't affect the other directly, although lack of
submodules support in pristine-tar (as far I see it being absent) might
be an obstacle. What I thought is to have

 xorg-server/ -- submodule in git

orig.tar.gz tarball containing full source tree including content of
xorg-server/

so the problem (nuisance) only would be the fact that pristine-tar
seems to don't know (from a quick grep) about submodules so I guess its
delta would be quite big, thus reducing the convenience of having that
 submodule in the first place.

For being +/- independent from pkg-xorg Git changes the pristine-tar
approach is probably better. The probability that such a Git change
might occur is rather low, though.

sorry -- what kind of changes did you have in mind?

atm everything seems to be in sync:

 (git)novo:~/deb/perspect/tigervnc/pkg-tigervnc[master]git
 $ diff --exclude .git -Naur xorg-server /tmp/xorg-server | lsdiff
 $ GIT_DIR=/tmp/xorg-server/.git git describe

Bug#654924: Inclusion of TigerVNC sources

2012-04-08 Thread Ola Lundqvist
Hi Mike

If you can build it against xorg dev package that would be
very good.

For vnc4 and tightvnc it is not possible due to various
reasons, but for tigervnc I do not know.

For vnc.so I think it should be possible, but to build a
Xvnc binary I do not know.

sorry for leaving an open building site... Will continue tonight,

This is a question I have right from the beginning... Do we really
need the xorg-server code in the package??? Can we not build against
Xorg's -dev packages in Debian instead? I have been involved in
providing packages for NX server where we face a very similar
situation. NX server is currently rejected by Debian as it comes
with an old and unpatched (no security patches applied that have
been applied to Xorg since 6.9) X11 source tree.

I may be able to help here. But if someone else sponsor it I would

7. We really should make the package build-able with git-buildpackage
(using pristine-tar and source format ,,3.0 (quilt)'').
I am not sure how customizable git-buildpackage is. We really have two
upstreams the tigervnc stuff and the xorg debian packages.

just craft get-orig-sources rule for debian/rules which would create the
target .tar.gz (or actually multiple ones, e.g. .orig.tar.gz and
.xorg.tar.gz since 3.0 (quilt) supports it; but afaik git-buildpackage
doesn't natively support multiple source tarballs yet... although I
recall using it somehow...). Then you just pristine-tar that beast

or may be Ola has better suggestions from his experience with vnc pkgs

Yes the full source must be available, and we are _not_ allowed to
download anything during the build process. Actually some autobuilders
have by intention no network support in the build root.

I have always re-generated a new orig.tar.gz file using two sources.

If you look into vnc4 package you can see that the source file is a
combination of vnc 4.1.1 and Xfree 4.3.0. You can even see that in the
version name of the package.
Unpack vnc4 source package and read debian/README.GENERATED and you
can see how I did.

Bug#650394: preliminary tigervnc 1.1.0 package

Hi Laszlo

Yes this is really good news. If you want some help on the alternatives

 Hi Laszlo,

Great to see efforts going forward ;-) What about making packaging
available in some public VCS (I would prefer/recommend GIT) so we could
collaborate more efficiently. Few brief comments (can't look in detail
 atm):

 * have you considered dh-autoreconf to help with the pain of regenerated
   files?

 * as you could see from other vnc packages, /usr/bin/vnc* is managed
   through alternatives:

 $ ls -l /usr/bin/*vnc* | grep altern
 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 22 Jan 21 2010 /usr/bin/Xvnc -
 /etc/alternatives/Xvnc*
 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 27 Jan 21 2010 /usr/bin/vncconfig -
 /etc/alternatives/vncconfig*
 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 27 Jan 21 2010 /usr/bin/vncpasswd -
 /etc/alternatives/vncpasswd*
 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 27 Jan 21 2010 /usr/bin/vncserver -
 /etc/alternatives/vncserver*
 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 27 May 22 2009 /usr/bin/vncviewer -
 /etc/alternatives/vncviewer*
 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 29 Jan 21 2010 /usr/bin/x0vncserver -
 /etc/alternatives/x0vncserver*
 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 28 May 22 2009 /usr/bin/xvncviewer -
 /etc/alternatives/xvncviewer*

so it would be great to adopt this strategy for this package as well

 * would be great similarly to split out server and client into separate
 packages

 * what kind of error were you getting while hitting that problem with building
twice in a row? I have tried on a stable Debian system, and succeeded to
do fakeroot debian/rules build, clean, build

 * jpeg library is probably not just libjpeg (didn't look what is from it
there) but extended one with turbojpeg, which ideally indeed should be
 packaged
separately... FWIW it is already present in few other packages:

 $ zgrep turbojpe ~/deb/docs/Contents-sources.gz
 chromium-browser: src/third_party/libjpeg_turbo/turbojpeg.h
 chromium-browser: src/third_party/libjpeg_turbo/turbojpegl.c
 ssvnc: vnc_unixsrc/vncviewer/turbovnc/turbojpeg.h
 x11vnc: x11vnc/misc/turbovnc/turbojpeg.h

 * zlib -- I don't see any commits in tigervnc repository hinting on them
patching it (besides build system)... they carry 1.2.5 version which is
 already
in Debian unstable (stable carries 1.2.3.4) so it would be ok to use
system-wide available one so little patching I guess is due to make that
 happen

NB I don't know if 1.2.3.4 is API compatible, so it might make sense to carry
copy of zlib along in the sources so it could be easily used while
building backports (which I would hope to be able to do)

Hope this of some help ;) keep on good work

Although I cannot take on sole maintainership, I'm interested in the
survival of the best VNC server and client in Debian. If a team can be
put together, I would be happy to contribute in what small ways I can.

What about eventual replacement by TigerVNC (http://tigervnc.org/),
since upstream for that fork is actually active?

I once started to package tigervnc in addition to the vnc4 and
tightvnc packages, but I had problems with crashes so I dumped
that attempt. But having an active upstream surely help in the
maintenance of the package.

Packaging of tigervnc with support for both client and server
part would be very nice. It would probably solve a few of the
current outstanding issues.

 I'm a daily user of vnc4server/xvnc4viewer 4.1.1+X4.3.0-31. Please let
me know if you need help in testing :-)

What about eventual replacement by TigerVNC (http://tigervnc.org/),

realvncserver, tightvncserver and vnc4server all seem to contain an
embedded copy of xfree/Xorg source code. If tigerVNC's Xorg module
actually works this sounds really promising. Any idea why it is not
developed in the Xorg tree? Is it still because Xorg does not want
 GPL'd code?

Yes. License problems do not change over night.

The only earlier attempt on a modular Xorg vnc module I've heard about
 is xf4vnc: http://xf4vnc.sourceforge.net/modular.html -- How does this
 compare against TigerVNC?

It compiles (with a few fixes), but I never got it working, at
least not in a compatible way to the current vnc packages.

I have not got either TigerVNC nor xf4vnc in a good enough way
for release. So I do not know.

Last try was a few (1-3 I do not remember) years ago though so
things may have changed.

mmmh, ok, I think I can afford it... this package doesn't require a lot

Bug#525948: RFA: dhttpd -- minimal secure webserver without cgi-bin support

2009-04-27 Thread Ola Lundqvist
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

Hi

I think it is time to let someone else take over this package as
I have not really had the time to maintain it. It is a quite simple
piece of software so it should be easy to maintain.

Best regards,

AFAIK (and i'm not currently a DD :), and as said in [1], Java program are
ordinary programs, from the user point of view so I dont see the need of
appending -java to package name. For example, we don't append -python to
every python program (take GRAMPS or apt-listchanges). We don't need to
clutter package's names with programming language :)

  2) Do not strip the .orig.tar.gz file unless strictly necessary. In this
case I can not see that it is necessary. It would be good to ask upstream
if it is possible to release one version without GPL references... If that
is necessary is up to the ftp masters to decide though when accepting the
  package.

You're right, it's best to get a new release from upstream without GPL crufts
but Marc Prud'hommeaux (upstream author) answer to me :

Unfortunately, I'm not going to have any time to make a new SQLLine
release in the near future correcting the issue of the license file.

So for now, I'll revert to pristine upstream tarball and make a note in
debian/README.source. Is it ok for you ?

I've also had a look at sqlline:

- if (as README.Debian suggests) it is only useful with a jdbc driver
it should probably depend (or at the very least recommend) a jdbc
driver. I'd Depend on all of them as alternatives (those that are
packaged).

Initially, it's exactly what I've done in debian/control. But I then
remember using sqlline with Oracle or Firebird JDBC drivers which are not
in Debian : I don't want to force debian users installing a package they
don't need so I downgraded that to a Suggests.
But you're right, we may concentrate on what Debian is providing.

I've made all JDBC drivers Recommends.

- debian/copyright claims BSD licence, but the LICENSE in the tarball
says GPLv2, which is it?

  It's really weird :
  - Upstream website say BSD licence [1] and links to [2]
  - Source code is under 3-clauses BSD : src/sqlline/SqlLine.java
  - root LICENCE file is GPLv2

I've re-downloaded upstream tarball to double check that but I got exactly
the same file. I'll try to contact upstream author on this issue.

  [1] http://sqlline.sourceforge.net/#license
  [2] http://www.opensource.org/licenses/bsd-license.php

I've contacted upstream (Marc Prud'hommeaux) about this issue, and he reply
 to
 me :

SQLLine was once GPL, but it was changed to be BSD a few years back.
Any references to the GPL are vestigial. Hopefully the license
 declaration at http://sqlline.sourceforge.net/#license is sufficiently
 authoritative in this regard.

To me, this seems a reasonable answer so I've stripped wrong LICENCE file
 from
 orig.tar.gz.
 I've reuploaded a new version on mentors.debian.net :
 http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/s/sqlline/sqlline_1.0.2-1.dsc

I have made some progess, which you can find at

However it is not something that is useable.

Maybe I should turn this bug into a RFP instead of ITP?

It doesnt make sense to put this stuff into two different source
packages either. One source package is enough. We need to finish the
icedtea package. Then we will have all we need in Debian.

Things seems to have changed since I started packaging. Back then
it was clearly two diffent sources.

From what I have read about icedtea it is just a build framework
for openjdk. Or is it already included?

In any case it would be most welcome with a free jvm with classes
inside Debian. :)

This means that I'll merge these two bugs into one. :)

 Michael

I have taken a short look some time ago.

The still seems to don't provide source tarballs but CVS is accessible
and seems to be alive to some degree ;-)

I just need it for my own use... First I was so confused that I thought
that xf4vnc is the vnc4server. Now that I know the history of branching,
I am at better position ;-)

:)

Well I know that some other distributions are using this instead of
vnc4server. I have not really any plan to distribute it as I already
maintain too many vnc versions. Is there any real benefits with this
version instead of the other variants?

  drwxr-xr-x root/root 0 2006-11-16 20:38
  ./usr/lib/openjdk-hotspot-jvm/

why -jvm? is there a separate dir for -jdk?

Because the package name is -jvm. It has no jdk functionality as it is not
released yet.

please provide the jvm in /usr/lib/jvm, as we currently do for the
 majority of packaged runtimes.

Oh such a directory exist. I'll move it there. I'll check the other jvms
to see how they handle the structure.

  -rw-r--r-- root/root 1503518 2006-11-16 20:38 ./usr/lib/sa-jdi.jar

is this arch-specific? is this jvm-specific?

No probably not arch specific. Not really sure what it is at all, more
than it was needed to compile itself... :)

I'm not sure that they have actually tried to build this on Linux

Bug#398448: ITP: openjdk-compiler -- sun java compiler, javac

2006-11-13 Thread Ola Lundqvist
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

Hi

I intend to package openjdk-compiler (normally called javac) that
was released today by Sun as GPL software.

Name: openjdk-compiler
URL: https://openjdk.dev.java.net/compiler/
License: GPL with CLASSPATH exception, see text below
Description: Sun Java compiler

I have not yet determined what software that is needed in order
to compile this package. It may need a java virtual machine
or java classes. The java virtual machine is released under GPL
but the classes has not been released yet.

Help, name suggestions etc is appriciated. If this seems to be a
too big job, then I'll consider someone else to co-maintain, maintain
or group maintain by the java team.

CLASSPATH EXCEPTION TO THE GPL

Certain source files distributed by Sun Microsystems, Inc. are subject to
the following clarification and special exception to the GPL, but only where
Sun has expressly included in the particular source file's header the words
Sun designates this particular file as subject to the Classpath exception
as provided by Sun in the LICENSE file that accompanied this code.

Linking this library statically or dynamically with other modules is making
a combined work based on this library. Thus, the terms and conditions of
the GNU General Public License cover the whole combination.

As a special exception, the copyright holders of this library give you

executable, regardless of the license terms of these independent modules,
and to copy and distribute the resulting executable under terms of your
choice, provided that you also meet, for each linked independent module,
the terms and conditions of the license of that module. An independent
module is a module which is not derived from or based on this library. If
you modify this library, you may extend this exception to your version of
the library, but you are not obligated to do so. If you do not wish to do
so, delete this exception statement from your version.

Bug#365645: ITP: interceptty -- intercept a tty

2006-05-01 Thread Ola Lundqvist
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

Hopepage: http://www.suspectclass.com/interceptty/
License: GPL
Description: intercept a tty
Interceptty is designed to sit between a serial port (or other
terminal device, or program, or socket, or something connected to a
file descriptor) and a program which is communicating with that
device, recording everything that goes back and forth between the two.
 .
It does this by opening the real device, creating a pseudo-tty, then
forwarding everything between the two, recording whatever it sees. It
has a number of options that let you fine-tune the devices it uses and
the terminal options for the real device.

I got response from upstream and that normally is a good thing. :)

Bug#360867: Preliminary Debian packages

2006-04-30 Thread Ola Lundqvist
Hi

Just wanted you to know that preliminary Debian packages is now
available for testing. Until the first Debian upload I will
keep update the same version number, unless a new upstream
version arrives. The reason is that the first Debian version
should end with an -1, something like 3.0.0.8-1.

You can download the deb files from
http://debian.opalsys.net/dists/unstable/main/binary-i386/admin/
http://debian.opalsys.net/dists/unstable/main/binary-all/devel/

There are three packages, vzctl, vzquota and kernel-patch-openvz.

Most things are done, but some things remain:
* Compliance with FHS. About to be fixed upstream (by openvz).
* Testing if it work as it should. I have not yet installed it
myself, so be aware that some things may not work perfectly.
It should work fine though, as this is just a clean install
like make install of the software.

Bug#364499: O: svncviewer -- virtual network computing client software for SVGA

2006-04-23 Thread Ola Lundqvist
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

Hi

I'm now orphaning this package. The reason is not that it is
hard to maintain (no bugs in a long time). It is that I have
no hardware that support SVGA output in a good way so I can
not test this package.

I therefore let over this package to someone else that can
support it better.

I will probably help with QA work for it when it below to the
QA group if no one else have the time for that.

Bug#364347: O: rfb -- VNC Server for X11 - exports current display

2006-04-22 Thread Ola Lundqvist
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

Hi

I'm now orphaning this package rfb. The reason is that all the
functionality is now provided by the vnc4 package that I also
maintain with the difference that it is more complete and less
buggy.

But I know that some people like this package and therefore
it may be kept in Debian.

If you like it and want to keep maintaining it, then please take
it over.

You should be aware that upstream no longer exist and even the
upstream site have vanished, or it was at least gone for a long
time.

Regards,

// Ola

apt-rpm is Connectiva's port of Debian's APT to RPM. This Debian
package contains the tools to create an APT RPM repository, so RPM-based
systems can be maintained via APT while the APT repository resides on a
Debian system. The client-side part of apt-rpm will obviously not be
 included in the Debian package.

I think maybe this should be named apt-rpm-repository to avoid confusion.

It is just a suggestion.

   Description: pool-based DEB package archiver

DebPool is a pool-based DEB package archiver designed with a goal of
removing any dependancy on code not shipped as part of the core Debian
 system.

It is capable of all of the following:
   * Tracking multiple distributions (however, it does *not* include
 unstable - testing promotion scripts).
   * Generating Release files (requires libdigest-{md5,sha1}-perl)
   * Verifying package signatures (requires gnupg).
   * Signing release files (requires Release files and gnupg).
   * Running in single-pass or daemon modes.

DebPool is intended to be a lightweight replacement for the full Debian
archival scripts, in the tradition of debarchive and mini-dinstall, but
using a pool layout and avoiding external dependancies.

Really nice. As the debarchiver maintainer I would look forward
to test this package.

If you want any suggestsion, help etc just tell me.

I do not know. If you adopt it you are in position to decide. When

but that is a loong time ago.

By the way. If you see any other java packages that I maintain you

one time (and it was removed) but apparently someone needed it
enough so it was put back again.

It has one release critical bug but that one should be trivial to
fix.

Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

I would like someone that can take over libxt-java. I do not really
have the time for it. Not very many package depend on it but
some people wanted to keep it in the archives.

It should be quite easy to maintain for someone who is familiar
with java.

Rebuild the Debian '/var/lib/dpkg/status' file from information in

useful if your 'status' file got corrupted if the system crashed during

I think this script is quite useful although it is not complete.
Unless somebody has serious reason to refuse this package entering

Hello

I do not have a Debian machine doing PPTP anymore, and furthermore I
would like to refocus my free software activities, so this package is
 up for adoption.

I use this software regulary now and would be very happy to adopt it.

I'll wait a few days so people can have opinions.

Regards,

 Thanks,
