Bug#654924: [Pkg-tigervnc-devel] Bug#654924: Re: Helping with tigervnc 1.5.0
Hi Martin Good point about the depth. I guess we should consider that. Regarding -localhost, yes that is a good security practice. On the other hand this is nothing that is started by default, it is always started by a human (or a human writing a script for it) so it is not a very important thing. However there are plenty of use-cases for connecting to local host. You can run applications in a chroot, you can have a different desktop session as another user in the vnc server, you can have that server running there with more important tasks that must survive in case you have to restart your desktop session and so on. So there are plenty of use-cases. However they may not be the most common ones of course. // Ola On Wed, May 25, 2016 at 7:43 AM, Martin Dorey <martin.do...@hds.com> wrote: > I'm concerned why /etc/vnc.conf and /usr/bin/tigervncserver set a depth of > 32. Bug#654924: Inclusion of TigerVNC sources
Hi How dependent is the patched xorg code on the tigervnc source? Is it so that we could provide a -dev module from tigervnc that we could use from xorg source? In the past they have been extremely dependent on each other but I do not know if that has changed. // Ola On Sun, Apr 08, 2012 at 03:33:33PM -0400, Yaroslav Halchenko wrote: I am happy with any approach. I am just more used to handling things with pristine-tar... yes -- this would probably be the easiest/most straightforward way at the moment, so just keep it this way, and let me just blurb about this alternative approach I had in mind: I have just moved the git submodule code out of the way in favour of tarball imports with pristine-tar. As far as I understand, the xorg source has to be in the package, one shouldn't affect the other directly, although lack of submodules support in pristine-tar (as far I see it being absent) might be an obstacle. What I thought is to have xorg-server/ -- submodule in git orig.tar.gz tarball containing full source tree including content of xorg-server/ so the problem (nuisance) only would be the fact that pristine-tar seems to don't know (from a quick grep) about submodules so I guess its delta would be quite big, thus reducing the convenience of having that submodule in the first place. For being +/- independent from pkg-xorg Git changes the pristine-tar approach is probably better. The probability that such a Git change might occur is rather low, though. sorry -- what kind of changes did you have in mind? atm everything seems to be in sync: (git)novo:~/deb/perspect/tigervnc/pkg-tigervnc[master]git $ diff --exclude .git -Naur xorg-server /tmp/xorg-server | lsdiff $ GIT_DIR=/tmp/xorg-server/.git git describe xorg-server-2_1.11.4-1 -- =--= Keep in touch www.onerussian.com Yaroslav Halchenko www.ohloh.net/accounts/yarikoptic -- --- Inguza Technology AB --- MSc in Information Technology / o...@inguza.comAnnebergsslingan 37\ | o...@debian.org 654 65 KARLSTAD| | http://inguza.com/Mobile: +46 (0)70-332 1551 | \ gpg/f.p.: 7090 A92B 18FE 7994 0C36 4FE4 18A1 B1CF 0FE5 3DD9 / --- -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-wnpp-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#654924: Inclusion of TigerVNC sources
Hi Mike If you can build it against xorg dev package that would be very good. For vnc4 and tightvnc it is not possible due to various reasons, but for tigervnc I do not know. For vnc.so I think it should be possible, but to build a Xvnc binary I do not know. Do we really need the xorg-server code in the package??? Can we not build against Xorg's -dev packages in Debian instead? I have been involved in providing packages for NX server where we face a very similar situation. NX server is currently rejected by Debian as it comes with an old and unpatched (no security patches applied that have been applied to Xorg since 6.9) X11 source tree. But if someone else sponsor it I would be quite happy. :-) 7. We really should make the package build-able with git-buildpackage (using pristine-tar and source format ,,3.0 (quilt)''). I am not sure how customizable git-buildpackage is. We really have two upstreams the tigervnc stuff and the xorg debian packages. just craft get-orig-sources rule for debian/rules which would create the target .tar.gz (or actually multiple ones, e.g. .orig.tar.gz and .xorg.tar.gz since 3.0 (quilt) supports it; but afaik git-buildpackage doesn't natively support multiple source tarballs yet... although I recall using it somehow...). Then you just pristine-tar that beast or may be Ola has better suggestions from his experience with vnc pkgs Yes the full source must be available, and we are _not_ allowed to download anything during the build process. Actually some autobuilders have by intention no network support in the build root. I have always re-generated a new orig.tar.gz file using two sources. If you look into vnc4 package you can see that the source file is a combination of vnc 4.1.1 and Xfree 4.3.0. You can even see that in the version name of the package. Unpack vnc4 source package and read debian/README.GENERATED and you can see how I did. I once started to package tigervnc in addition to the vnc4 and tightvnc packages, but I had problems with crashes so I dumped that attempt. But having an active upstream surely help in the maintenance of the package. Packaging of tigervnc with support for both client and server part would be very nice. Please let me know if you need help in testing :-) What about eventual replacement by TigerVNC (http://tigervnc.org/), since upstream for that fork is actually active? realvncserver, tightvncserver and vnc4server all seem to contain an embedded copy of xfree/Xorg source code. If tigerVNC's Xorg module actually works this sounds really promising. Any idea why it is not developed in the Xorg tree? Is it still because Xorg does not want GPL'd code? Yes. License problems do not change over night. The only earlier attempt on a modular Xorg vnc module I've heard about is xf4vnc: http://xf4vnc.sourceforge.net/modular.html -- How does this compare against TigerVNC? It compiles (with a few fixes), but I never got it working, at least not in a compatible way to the current vnc packages. I have not got either TigerVNC nor xf4vnc in a good enough way for release. So I do not know. Last try was a few (1-3 I do not remember) years ago though so things may have changed. We don't need to clutter package's names with programming language :) 2) Do not strip the .orig.tar.gz file unless strictly necessary. In this case I can not see that it is necessary. It would be good to ask upstream if it is possible to release one version without GPL references... If that is necessary is up to the ftp masters to decide though when accepting the package. You're right, it's best to get a new release from upstream without GPL crufts but Marc Prud'hommeaux (upstream author) answer to me : Unfortunately, I'm not going to have any time to make a new SQLLine release in the near future correcting the issue of the license file. But I then remember using sqlline with Oracle or Firebird JDBC drivers which are not in Debian : I don't want to force debian users installing a package they don't need so I downgraded that to a Suggests. It's really weird : - Upstream website say BSD licence [1] and links to [2] - Source code is under 3-clauses BSD : src/sqlline/SqlLine.java - root LICENCE file is GPLv2 I've re-downloaded upstream tarball to double check that but I got exactly the same file. First I was so confused that I thought that xf4vnc is the vnc4server. Now that I know the history of branching, I am at better position ;-) :) Well I know that some other distributions are using this instead of vnc4server. I have not really any plan to distribute it as I already maintain too many vnc versions. Is there any real benefits with this version instead of the other variants? Hi I have now built the jvm. The two hours they mentioned is not really true. It takes a lot less time. I have not built the full jdk as it seems like copies things from the old jdk installation... Oh such a directory exist. I'll move it there. Bug#365645: ITP: interceptty -- intercept a tty
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist Hopepage: http://www.suspectclass.com/interceptty/ License: GPL Description: intercept a tty Interceptty is designed to sit between a serial port (or other terminal device, or program, or socket, or something connected to a file descriptor) and a program which is communicating with that device, recording everything that goes back and forth between the two. . It does this by opening the real device, creating a pseudo-tty, then forwarding everything between the two, recording whatever it sees. It has a number of options that let you fine-tune the devices it uses and the terminal options for the real device. Bug#360867: Preliminary Debian packages
Hi Just wanted you to know that preliminary Debian packages is now available for testing. Until the first Debian upload I will keep update the same version number, unless a new upstream version arrives. The reason is that the first Debian version should end with an -1, something like 3.0.0.8-1. You can download the deb files from http://debian.opalsys.net/dists/unstable/main/binary-i386/admin/ http://debian.opalsys.net/dists/unstable/main/binary-all/devel/ There are three packages, vzctl, vzquota and kernel-patch-openvz. Most things are done, but some things remain: * Compliance with FHS. About to be fixed upstream (by openvz). * Testing if it work as it should. I have not yet installed it myself, so be aware that some things may not work perfectly. It should work fine though, as this is just a clean install like make install of the software. When I made the libxalan2-java version there were some incompatibilities but that is a loong time ago. By the way. If you see any other java packages that I maintain you are allowed to adopt it too. That includes cocoon too but you have to coordinate with the other people that are woring on that piece of software. java-common is an exception that I want to keep for some more time.
