My advice is to forget this. Upstream is really uncooperative and Torvalds went to conferences to talk about this (conveniently forgetting to mention he was depending an unstable library whose author said "Don't use this yet") The video of that conference that happened ages ago is still shared today to "prove" how the distribution model is bad, distro maintainers are mean, and so on. Just my advice. Il giorno dom 22 mag 2022 alle ore 13:58 David Bremner ha scritto: > > Philippe Cerfon writes: > > > btw... Bug#904135: ITP: pysttrafik -- Public transport client, for the Västra Götaland county
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist Owner: Salvo Tomaselli * Package name: pysttrafik Version : 1.0 Upstream Author : Salvo 'LtWorf' Tomaselli Name * URL : https://github.com/ltworf/pysttrafik * License : GPL Programming Lang: Python3 Description : Public transport client, for the Västra Götaland county Västtrafik is the agency for public transport in Västra Götaland (Sweden). . This package provies a CLI to access their API and plan trips or see the incoming vehicles at a given stop. The package is nice to use, since the web client is very heavy and slow. I made it, I use it, I saw some activity on github but since it required getting your own API key, it never became mainstream. Now they changed how API keys are managed, so one user can get more keys, per application, so I can publish the key and the software no longer requires creating an account. It is only useful in the specific area where västtrafik operates, but after a discussion on the mentors IRC channels, it seems that it might be good to include this in Debian.
Bug#895158: ITP: typedload -- Python3 module to load and dump data into typed structures
Package: wnpp Owner: Salvo Tomaselli Severity: wishlist * Package name: typedload Version : 0.9 Upstream Author : Salvo 'LtWorf' Tomaselli * URL : https://github.com/ltworf/typedload#typedload * License : GPL Programming Lang: Python Description : Python3 module to load and dump data into typed structures This module provides an API to load dictionaries and list (usually loaded from json) into Python's NamedTuples, sets, enums, and various other typed data structures. . It also allows one to dump them from typed data structures to json-like dictionaries and lists. . This allows all the code that uses external data to have the advantages of using types, and causes all errors with the data to be noticed when it is loaded, rather than when it is used. - why is this package useful/relevant? I found some people on stack overflow and similar, trying to obtain this, and implementing hacky solutions that only support very very simple types. This library supports quite a few combinations of types. - is it a dependency for another package? Not for now, it's quite new - do you use it? yes - if there are other packages providing similar functionality, how does it compare? Not that I know of. - how do you plan to maintain it? Github, for both packaging and upstream code. Ah I see! Good to know it is getting some love. If you haven't done so yet, you can try joining #debian-mentors on IRC (irc.oftc.net) and ask there. I don't regularly follow that channel, but the ones I do follow tend to be rather active. If you are new to IRC, the idea is that you enter and write, and then it can take even hours to get a reply from people. Best. 2018-01-23 20:27 GMT+01:00 Gabriel F. T. Bug#876670: O: polygen -- generator of random sentences from grammar definitions
Package: wnpp Severity: normal I intend to orphan the polygen package. It is written in OCaml and I really don't have the knowledge to write patches and generally make it work. I had adopted it because I use it, but maintaining it is not my thing really. The package description is: PolyGen is a program for generating random sentences according to a grammar definition, that is following custom syntactical and lexical rules. . Formally, it is an interpreter of a language itself designed to define languages, where to interpret means executing a source program in real time and eventually outputting its result. . Here a source program is a grammar definition, the execution consists in the exploration of such grammar by selecting a random path and the result is the sentence built on the way. . Though PolyGen is quite a serious piece of software then, what else would be more noble for it than being used as a parody tool for linguistical habits, stereotypes and trends of this foolish era? . Principles of parody are focusing a ridiculous topic and eventually abstracting its rules and schemes (here in terms of a grammar definition) by which reproducing it through the variatio device. And randomization is perfect at this purpose thanks to its purely asemantic behaviour =:) PolyGen is a program for generating random sentences according to a grammar definition, that is following custom syntactical and lexical rules. . Bug#876655: ITP: lapdog -- Take actions when specific devices appear/disappear from your LAN
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist Owner: Salvo Tomaselli * Package name: lapdog Version : 1.0 Upstream Author : Salvo Tomaselli * URL : https://github.com/ltworf/lapdog * License : GPL Programming Lang: C++ Description : Take actions when specific devices appear/disappear from your LAN lapdog is a service that monitors the presence/absence of the devices on your LAN and executes some actions accordingly. . It pings the devices to discover if they are connected or not. And uses their MAC address and not their IP, so it works on networks with DHCP. More details: Works nicely with laptops: it can be configured to only activate itself when the machine sees a certain gateway, so on new networks it will not do anything. I already created a debian branch on git with the packaging stuff. I find the package quite useful especially to turn off the lights when I leave home, suspend my computer and similar things. It's extremely configurable and can be used for many more things.
Bug#824520: Just don't
Hello, I was maintaining subsurface in Debian for a while. In subsurface, they keep forking libraries. In Debian, it's not allowed to have source packages containing forked libraries. This is due to the fact that the security team doesn't want to have to find multiple copies of the same bug in libraries which might have slight differencies, and apply fixes in all of the copies. In my opinion it's a very sensible approach. I don't know what the policies in other distributions are, about duplicated source code. Unfortunately in subsurface, they don't care about any of this, and keep forking libraries. While libdivecomputer isn't problematic, because it is the only project using it, libmarble and libgit2 pose a problem, and they are internet facing, so could have security vulnerabilities. Upstream is not willing to help in using the original libraries rather than the forks, so a huge amount of patches is necessary to keep this package in Debian. The alternative is to delete all parts of code that use those libraries, and lose many functionalities. I am not closing this bug, but if anyone is reading this, my advice is to move on and don't try to package it. Best
Bug#848667: ITP: trabucco -- a launcher for people that are nostalgic about katapult
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist Owner: Salvo Tomaselli * Package name: trabucco Version : 1.0.0 Upstream Author : Salvo 'LtWorf' Tomaselli * URL : https://github.com/ltworf/trabucco#trabucco * License : GPL3 Programming Lang: C++ Description : a launcher for people that are nostalgic about katapult I started writing trabucco (trebuchet in Italian), because I was not very happy with krunner and I had been happier with katapult, on KDE3. So the idea is to have a similar user experience. Trabucco is more deterministic, it creates a search tree when it starts and as the user types, it shows the best suggestion. It only shows 1 suggestion per string. If the user doesn't add new programs/bookmarks, the same search string will always result in the same suggestion. This means that it makes it easy to acquire muscle memory and do things without even looking at the screen. These are the main differences with krunner. Krunner will do the search as the user types in, try to be smart and sort multiple suggestions, and have timeouts, so depending on the load of the system, you might get a different set of suggestions. These are things I found annoying, hence the decision of writing trabucco. It uses modern Qt things and QML to render, and I have made an effort to be compliant with freedesktop specifications. I am the main upstream author, I plan to keep the debian directory on the same git repository as the upstream code.

With gnuchess, I've > just tried, it seems everything is in pure commandline. So the format is > a bit different. Well gnuchess is mostly supposed to be used as a backend for graphical chess programs such as knights or xboard. So i was wondering if this package could be used too as a backend for already existing chess GUIs that are already in debian. Check out this page please: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chess_engine#Protocols Personally i don't like the idea of a chess engine that uses it's own private protocol rather than a well known one, so that both parts (engine and gui) could be used independently from each other, so perhaps you could confirm or deny wether it uses an already existing protocol or not? Bug#595820: ITP: woof -- A small, simple, stupid webserver to share files

Could you provide a long > description for the package that helps an adminstrator decide why she > might want to install woof instead of some other lightweight web > server? I maintain a similar package (weborf), but yet with some differences. Weborf uses a basedirectory param while woof can use a directory or a file. Weborf will not limit the number of connections. Woof would tar a directory and weborf would produce an html list of files. Weborf does not support file upload in the same way. The user would be forced to use a CGI script. Or, weborf supports the PUT method, but no browser does. Weborf is also meant to be used as a normal webserver, and woof is not. I think the upload option and the tar of directory are quite convenient. Bye -- Salvo Tomaselli signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part.
