Bug#801253: Forming a Debian WICD Packaging Team
Hi, I use WICD with LXDE. The package has two bug reports with patches. I can check if they really fix the problems and do the upload. The thread is long so I am asking: Someone will adopt the package ? Is someone taking care of the package ? Regards, Herbert

Hi Ritesh, Ritesh Raj Sarraf wrote: > Is this team going to take care of upstream maintenance too ? No. > IIRC, there's been no upstream development in some time. There is Tom Van Braeckel who seems doing maintenance work, apply submitted patches and streamling stuff. See http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~wicd-devel/wicd/experimental/changes/ and the mailing list at https://sourceforge.net/p/wicd/mailman/wicd-devel/. Nevertheless we -- on Debian Unstable -- are (togther with Arch and maybe Gentoo) those who are exposed to new incompatibilites first (I don't know what OS Tom uses, but I don't expect it to be Debian Unstable), so we likely have to come up with patches then and when as it happened in the past, mostly with pyuthon-urwid. But there is someone again who imports them into and cares about upstream. (This is _not_ meant as offense to David. I guess, we're all glad, he started wicd in the beginning. :-) Regards, Axel -- ,''`. | Axel Beckert, http://people.debian.org/~abe/ : :' : | Debian Developer, ftp.ch.debian.org Admin `. `' | 4096R: 2517 B724 C5F6 CA99 5329 6E61 2FF9 CD59 6126 16B5 `-| 1024D: F067 EA27 26B9 C3FC 1486 202E C09E 1D89 9593 0EDE

Hello Axel, Is this team going to take care of upstream maintenance too ? IIRC, there's been no upstream development in some time. Bug#801253: Forming a Debian WICD Packaging Team
Control: retitle -1 ITA: wicd -- wired and wireless network manager Control: owner -1 Debian WICD Packaging TeamControl: tag -1 + pending Hi, over the past half year I've seen quite some interest in contributing to wicd's packaging, especially with contributions from non-DDs like Salvo 'LtWorf' Tomaselli (did an NMU), toogley and just recently Giáp Trần. But since they're no DDs, they had no commit access to the collab-maint project on Alioth: Salvo's NMU has been imported by me, toogley published his changes on Github and I synced them from there, and Giáp used "git format-patch" and sent the changes to me by e-mail. So to allow non-DDs to easier participate (and less relying on me ;-) in maintaining Debian's wicd package, I've created a pkg-wicd project on Alioth and move wicd's packaging git repository there: https://alioth.debian.org/projects/pkg-wicd/ https://anonscm.debian.org/git/pkg-wicd/wicd.git (the web interface still doesn't work, but I was able to push to git+ssh://git.debian.org/git/pkg-wicd/wicd.git) To still benefit from occasional contributions from various DDs as seen in the past and possible with a collab-maint project, I configured the pkg-wicd Alioth project to grant any DD commit access. That way non-DDs can easier get commit access while still having all advantages of a collab-maint project. I'm happy to add anyone to the pkg-wicd group on Alioth who wants to help maintaining the wicd package. Either tell me by e-mail (include your Alioth user name) or use the web form at https://alioth.debian.org/projects/pkg-wicd/. I'd be especially happy if those who worked on the wicd package in the past would join the team, or at least the mailing list at https://alioth.debian.org/mail/?group_id=101007 Another thing I'd be happy about would be if at least one more DD would join the team, so that I can give him or her administrative access to the project to reduce the bus-factor. Being listed in Uploaders is _no_ requirement for that position.
