Bug#255850: freenx debian packaging
On Tue, 8 Jan 2008, Emilio Scalise wrote: What is the state of freenx packaging in debian? I've searched a lot on the web, but there are no recent packages on the net. Kanotix repo maintainer who had built some freenx packages left the job. There were some packages for ubuntu, but they are now outdated: http://seveas.theplayboymansion.net/seveas/dists/feisty-seveas/freenx/ Jeremy Wilkins updated them, and a repository with those packages (further updated by Marcelo Boveto Shima) can be found at https://edge.launchpad.net/~marceloshima/+archive I've taken them and compiled on Etch (as backports with pbuilder). They worked, but I had problems with session management. I think we should work improving things. We must also discuss to choose which nx version we should use as backed (Marcelo used nx 3.1, that's not so supported by freenx upstream..). Fedora currently has official packages of freenx 0.7.1 and nx 2.1.0. These packages are actively maintained and there are patches that solve many bugs present upstream. We could use also use those sources as a starting point, naturally changing the distro-relative things, like paths etc etc. I can help in packaging, as I have some knowledge about it. I know nx from the administrator point of view. I've also contributed to compiz/compiz-fusion packages, so I'm not so new about the debian-x politics and procedures. Please let me know if the alioth group is still active, if someone is interested in those packages for official inclusion or not. Does freenx still ship it's own X libs? It would be nice to integrate the funcionality in Xorg. I've tried updating freenx in the past, and the experience was awful (and it failed, obviously). t -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Bug#1042827: [Pkg-sssd-devel] priv-wrapper?
Simon Josefsson kirjoitti 3.8.2023 klo 22.55: Timo Aaltonen writes: I had a brief look at priv-wrapper packaging, and noticed it only keeps the debian/ dir in git? The sssd-team packages have the full upstream git as the base, with packaging added to the packaging branch. I prefer those will remain like that :) I usually also do the full git repo with upstream branch for most of the packages I maintain, but for this new package I wanted to see if keeping only debian/ in git worked, as I've had success with that in another package. What is really the upside of having upstream code in Debian's git? One downside is that it wastes space, although I don't think that matters a lot these days. Another downside is that it confuses what is really the "upstream" in case the Debian git-repo's view of what "upstream" is differs from the real upstream. How do you pull a new upstream release, download the tarball? I don't like working with upstream tarballs as the source of a new release, git is much nicer. And it allows using snapshots when needed etc. Just to clarify, did you mean that you would want priv-wrapper to use the same style as the other packages, or merely that I shouldn't change the other sssd-packages to use this debian/-only approach? I wouldn't do the latter. Generally if you feel there is any subjective style matter you don't agree with, I'm happy to follow what you prefer. I prefer to keep priv-wrapper as debian/-only if you think that is okay, unless I learn some disadvantage with it that I am not aware of yet. It's fine to have priv-wrapper as-is, no objections there. /Simon PS. Changing to your ubuntu.com email address since sending to your debian.org address results in bounces when debian.org forwards it to ubuntu.com because debian.org is not authorized to send emails on behalf of si...@josefsson.org due to (probably) my SPF 'mx -all' preference. I think it is a problem with the debian.org forwarder.. Yeah email sucks. I can't send to gmail addresses (with @debian.org) because of my smtp provider which has no DKIM.. -- t

Bug#637594: Please hold the upload of ding-libs for now
Hi! I've talked with Jonathan Carter (the packager) about the ding-libs upload, and I believe we agree that the package should be held until a newer version is ready for sponsoring. The issue I see is that the -dev library names shouldn't have the soname in them, and that there is a git-repo under collab-maint which is a better base for the package. The diff currently is really just the dev-package names, and we can get a -2 sponsored to the NEW queue if possible? Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist Package name: xmlstreambuffer Version : 1.5.1 Upstream Author : Oracle URL : http://xmlstreambuffer.java.net/ License : CDDL or GPL with classpath exception, Apache2.0 Programming Lang: Java Description : XML Stream Buffer A stream buffer is a stream-based representation of an XML info-set in Java. Stream buffers are designed to: provide very efficient stream-based memory representations of XML info-sets; and be created and processed using any Java-based XML API. . Conceptually a stream buffer is similar to the representation used in the Xerces deferred DOM implementation, with the crucial difference that a stream buffer does not store hierarchical information like parent and sibling information. The deferred DOM implementation reduces memory usage when large XML documents are parsed but only a subset of the document needs to be processed. (Note that using deferred DOM will be more expensive than non-deferred DOM in terms of memory and processing if all the document is traversed.) . Stream buffers may be used as an efficient alternative to DOM where: * most or all of an XML info-set will eventually get traversed; and/or * targeted access to certain parts of an XML info-set are required and need to be efficiently processed using stream-based APIs like SAX or StAX. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-wnpp-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#876115: ITP: tomcat8.0
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist Package name: tomcat8.0 Version : 8.0.46 Upstream Author : The Apache Software Foundation URL : http://tomcat.apache.org/ License : Apache-2.0 Programming Lang: java Description : Apache Tomcat 8.0 - Servlet and JSP engine This is a fork of tomcat8_8.0.39-1 updated to latest upstream version. It is needed by tomcatjss and dogtag-pki, which got broken after tomcat8 was updated to 8.5 late last year. Upstream has not ported tomcatjss & dogtag-pki to 8.5 yet, and looks like it'll take some time before it's done. This package allows working on FreeIPA until that happens. The package will only build tomcat8.0-user and libtomcat8.0-java, and will be kept out of testing and removed once tomcatjss and dogtag-pki are ported. While I could keep the status quo and not have working freeipa in sid, tomcat8 got synced to Ubuntu so I need this package there anyway, so why not put it in Debian too..

Yep, and I'm not sure if it was a good idea to put everything in one package. Also, this probably should be kept out of stretch and instead spend some more time on it. I'll look into it some more after xmas. Do you have an irc channel I could join at some point? -- t
