The difference was that earlier I had run glxgears as

It might just be a problem with the permissions of /dev/dri/card0.
xserver-xorg-core sets it to mode 666 now, while you needed a DRI
section in xorg.conf to do that earlier.

I believe, is not dual-monitor and has very washed out

Dual-head with DRI might not be that easy to get. We have bug #362997

Bug#438842: description prompts user to install libgl1-mesa-dri, but it isn't in Recommends

2007-08-20 Thread Robert Millan
Package: libgl1-mesa-glx
Version: 6.5.1-0.6
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

As Description says, libgl1-mesa-dri is needed for direct rendering.

Most users of opengl programs will want to use the 3D capabilities of their
cards, so in general it is indeed a good idea to install libgl1-mesa-dri
when using libgl1-mesa-glx.

I think this calls for a Recommends: libgl1-mesa-dri.

Bug#438850: xserver-xorg-video-nv: Unable to use native DFP resolution

2007-08-20 Thread Michael Hanke
Package: xserver-xorg-video-nv
Version: 1:2.1.3-1
Severity: normal

I just upgraded from etch to lenny and my screen does not show its
native resolution anymore. As you can see from the logfile dump below
the native resolution of my screen is 1680x1050. This is confirmed by
ddcprobe and xresprobe:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/var/cache/apt$ sudo xresprobe nv
id: SyncMaster
res: 1680x1050 1280x1024 1280x960 1152x864 1024x768 832x624 800x600 720x400
640x480
freq: 30-81 56-75
disptype: crt

(although it is a dfp not a crt)

However, the xserver always sets the resolution to 1280x1024 and
complains about 1680x1050 exceeding the panel size.

I also tried the proprietary nvidia driver and it seems to have the same
problem. I also tested the current testing nv driver and the current
unstable version.

I tried with and without setting

Option PanelSize 1680x1050

and with and without specifying a Modeline

and with and without setting HVSync ranges.

The whole setup worked perfectly at 1680x1050 on Debian etch.

Thanks,

Michael

Bug#429609: root-tail problems with xserver-xorg-core 1.3

2007-08-20 Thread Leandro Penz
Hi!

I narrowed it down to the following upgrade:
[UPGRADE] xserver-xorg-core 2:1.1.1-21 - 2:1.3.0.0.dfsg-11

After that, root-tail stoped working. That was the only package I upgraded
in that session. Then, I downgraded it again:
[DOWNGRADE] xserver-xorg-core 2:1.3.0.0.dfsg-11 - 2:1.1.1-21
And root-tail worked again.

I tried the free nv driver, both the stable (1.2.0-3) and testing version
(1:2.1.2) with xserver-xorg-core 2:1.3.0 and got the same results.

Oh, then upgrading or downgrading xserver-xorg-video-nv doesn't matter
since this driver isn't used at all.

Is there a way you try without the proprietary nvidia driver? I'd like
to be sure it's not caused by it. Changing nvidia into nv in
/etc/X11/xorg.conf (and maybe removing a couple non-trivial option)
 should do the trick.

Bug#417601: x11r6: On startup, X11 reports that my G450 is not DRI capable.

2007-08-20 Thread Dale E. Edmons

Brice,

In XFree86 glxgears was a fairly reliable indicator
of whether things were horribly broken or moving
along well. Running flightgear flightsim would always
parallel the performance, albiet much slower.

In Xorg, that doesn't seem to be the case. However,
if the wheels in glxgears are stepping, throwing bands
of colors across my display, etc, then I *know* there is
a problem.

I always run glxinfo to see what the system thinks
is actually out there. glxgears will run even if mesa
is doing indirect rendering.

Dual head works with the existing system. That I
know for a fact. I now remember that I was just
starting a disk driver for a VxWorks related system
and needed both displays. The xorg.conf.no-dri is
a config that actually runs dual-head.

And GLX works with the same software. The xorg.conf.good
I sent you is proof of that. However, I haven't seen
both DRI/GLX *and* dual-head (although I've always
been able to do both in the past). There has always been
a trick to getting it tweeked just right so that they both
work. This is the first time I haven't found an answer.
But now I know that I can switch config files and have
either one or the other, just not both--until this gets fixed.

Right now I have finished writing my driver and one display
is down and GLX is *very* important at the moment, so I'm now
running that. (As long as I don't have a senior moment and
forget to switch configs or over write one, then I'll be okay.)

Thanks very much for your help. I hope the config files I
sent you can help.

Dale

Add 01_gen_pci_ids.diff.

This patch adds a list of pci id's that the driver supports so that the
server can automatically load it.

Autoreconf to deal with it.

2007-08-20 Thread Brice Goglin
reassign 438904 xserver-xorg-video-ati

thank you

Josh Triplett wrote:
 I have a two-monitor stacked configuration. I started a program, causing the
busy cursor to appear. When I moved that cursor to the top of the upper
screen, hanging over the top edge, it also appeared at the top of the other
monitor. I can consistently reproduce this.

And the duplicate cursor goes away as soon as you leave the top of the
screen? top of the screen only means the top-most line?

It doesn't occur with the non-busy cursor? What if the put the busy
cursor at the top of the screen and leave it there until it becomes
non-busy again, does the duplicate cursor go away? Or do you get two
non-busy cursors?

If you move the cursor horizontally on the top of the screen, do both
duplicates move the same?

I don't know which package causes this problem; it could represent a driver
bug, an X server bug, or a hardware bug. I also don't know if it applies to
unstable. The box I observed this on runs etch.

I am voting for the driver, hence reassigning to xserver-xorg-video-ati.

 ii xserver-xorg-core 2:1.1.1-21 X.Org X server -- core server
 ii xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:6.6.3-2X.Org X server -- ATI display
 driv

It would be nice to upgrade xserver-xorg-video-ati to experimental
(6.6.193) and/or xserver-xorg-core to testing (1.3.0). The former
contains some cursor-related cleanups, and it should be easy to backport
to Etch (just a couple things to change in debian/control, let me know
if you need help). The latter will require some new libs (at least
libdrm2) so I'll understand if you don't want to even try backporting it.

This mail is sent to several people / mainlists. Please don't reply to

I've recently finished the openoffice.org bug triage [1], and I'm
looking for another candidate for similar triages.

I've notices that your packages (a) has a (relatively) large number of
bugs, or (b) a diversity of versions available without confirmation that
the bug do exist in the latest one.

If you're interested with getting help regarding this issue, please
reply. I'd be happy to hear suggestions about the goals of the triage of
 your package.

This mail is sent to the maintainers of these source packages:
 xorg
 xorg-server

I am kind of sad to receive this mail since I just spent about 6 months
 triaging our bugs :) See
 http://ftp.es.debian.org/~ender/XSF_bugs/graphs/total-year.png

I guess this is a side effect of dealing with popular packages.

You did a good job, and inspired others.

Unfortunately, most of our 850 remaining bugs (570 if I remove the
forwarded and wontfix ones) still occur. If you want to go ahead and fix
them, that would be nice too :)

If I could fix the bugs myself, I would have joined the x strike force...

But I thought about these goals for the bug triage:
1. Confirm all bugs to still be relevant for xorg version 7.2-5 and
xorg-server version 1.3.0.0.
2. Close bugs which can't be confirmed and the submitter is not
responsive (3 pings during 6 weeks time).

Any other suggestions? Is what I'm offering OK by you?

Is this going to be fixed for etch? It happens pretty routinely on our

Bug#438940: xkb-data: package overwrite user-modified files without notice

2007-08-20 Thread Cedric Pradalier
Package: xkb-data
Version: 1.0~cvs.20070721-1
Severity: normal

Hi,

I like to modify my keyboard configuration to suit my needs by modifying files
in /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols.
Each time xkb-data is updated, it overwrites my modifications. I think
this files should be considered configuration files as if they were in etc, and
the same behaviour should apply. If the file has been modified since last
install, then ask user for advice, or back it up.

Thanks.

Bug#429609: root-tail problems with xserver-xorg-core 1.3

2007-08-20 Thread Brice Goglin
Leandro Penz wrote:
I narrowed it down to the following upgrade:
 [UPGRADE] xserver-xorg-core 2:1.1.1-21 - 2:1.3.0.0.dfsg-11

After that, root-tail stoped working. That was the only package I
upgraded in that session. Then, I downgraded it again:
 [DOWNGRADE] xserver-xorg-core 2:1.3.0.0.dfsg-11 - 2:1.1.1-21
 And root-tail worked again.

I tried the free nv driver, both the stable (1.2.0-3) and testing
version (1:2.1.2) with xserver-xorg-core 2:1.3.0 and got the same results.

Are you sure you removed all the nvidia stuff when trying with the free
nv driver? I never tried nvidia-glx myself, but there might be some
nvidia specific libs that divert the regular Xorg libs. I don't know if
they could cause problems when still installed while using the free nv
driver.

Anyway, I still can't reproduce it here, on both ati and intel free
drivers, so the problem still looks kind of driver-specific to me. The
nvidia binary driver had a couple known minor incompatibilities with
Xserver 1.3...

Bug#438940: xkb-data: package overwrite user-modified files without notice

2007-08-20 Thread Drew Parsons
Cedric Pradalier wrote:
I like to modify my keyboard configuration to suit my needs by modifying files
 in /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols.
Each time xkb-data is updated, it overwrites my modifications. I think
this files should be considered configuration files as if they were in etc,
 and
 the same behaviour should apply.

For some reason I find I still have the old xlibs package installed.
Curiously it seemed to place the xkb data files in
/etc/X11/xkb/symbols.

Perhaps we should alter xkb-data to do the same again?

(we could symlink from /usr/share/X11/xkb to /etc/X11/xkb,
or symlink specific subdirs as appropriate)

Drew
