I put the files in my staging area but forgot to run the upload script.
They are there now.

Sorry about that!

Bug#442210: xorg-server: [debconf_rewrite] Debconf templates and debian/control review

2007-09-13 Thread Christian Perrier
Package: xorg-server
Version: N/A
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Dear Debian maintainer,

On Monday, August 27, 2007, I notified you of the beginning of a review process
concerning debconf templates for xorg-server.

The debian-l10n-english contributors have now reviewed these templates,
and the proposed changes are attached to this bug report.

Please review the suggested changes are suggested, and if you have any
objections, let me know in the next 3 days.

Please try to avoid uploading xorg-server with these changes right now.

The second phase of this process will begin on Monday, September 17, 2007, when
I will
coordinate updates to translations of debconf templates.

The existing translators will be notified of the changes: they will
receive an updated PO file for their language.

Simultaneously, a general call for new translations will be sent to
the debian-i18n mailing list.

Both these calls for translations will request updates to be sent as
individual bug reports. That will probably trigger a lot of bug
reports against your package, but these should be easier to deal with.

The call for translation updates and new translations will run until
about Monday, October 08, 2007. Please avoid uploading a package with fixed or
changed
debconf templates and/or translation updates in the meantime. Of
course, other changes are safe.

Please note that this is an approximative delay, which depends on my
own availability to process this work and is influenced by the fact
that I simultaneously work on many packages.

Around , I will contact you again and will send a final patch
summarizing all the updates (changes to debconf templates,
updates to debconf translations and new debconf translations).

Again, thanks for your attention and cooperation.

The problem described there looks like some lockups I have been
experiencing lately too. There is at least one interesting fix in
upstream git master for this, it helped for me. I uploaded
xserver-xorg-video-ati 6.7.192-4 yesterday with the current contents of
upstream git, please try it.

Detects and throws away part of the information would be more precise.
It gets the sync rates and calculates a mode that fits into these but
is larger than physical size.

It sort of works with 6.7.192 (in this setup it does not choose modes
larger than 1280x1024, probably just accidentally) but it crashes on
Radeon 9200, at least in Ubuntu.

You should use the 'reportbug' tool when reporting bugs, it would have
included lots of info we need to diagnose the problem. Please send us
the whole output of
/usr/share/bug/xserver-xorg/script 3>&1
so that we see your whole config and log.

If you have DRI enabled, you should try without it. You should also try
with another driver, for instance vesa.

And you seem to be using Etch, Xorg changed a lot since then, it would
be nice to upgrade your Xorg to testing.

Thanks,
Brice

Probably the same than bug #432950.

The crash happens in GLX anyway, not in DRI.

You're not sure? Would be worth checking. The more details, the more
chances to get this fixed.

Bug#442200: xorg: periodically stops responding to mouse clicks or window changes

2007-09-13 Thread Jamin W. Collins
Package: xorg
Version: 1:7.1.0-19
Severity: normal

Not entirely sure where to report this or how to go about starting to
troubleshoot or track this problem down, but periodically my X session
will become almost completely unresponsive. The applications will
continue to update their windows/display. And if the mouse is still
visible, it can be moved around the screen. However, clicking on
anything with the mouse fails to elicit the normal response (focusing a
window, opening a menu, launching an application, etc).

If the last focused window allowed text entry the keyboard will continue
to enter into it. However, any attempt to change windows (via
keybinds), kill the X session (CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE), or switch to a VT
(CTRL+ALT+[1=6]) all produce no response.

Suggestions on where to beginning tracking this down or possible
reassignment of this bug to a more appropriate package would be most
appreciated.

What seems to be the problem? The monitor's preferred mode is 1280 by
1024 and the physical size is according to the edid from the monitor:

II) RADEON(0): Supported additional Video Mode:
(II) RADEON(0): clock: 108.0 MHz Image Size: 317 x 254 mm
(II) RADEON(0): h_active: 1280 h_sync: 1328 h_sync_end 1440
h_blank_end 1688 h_border: 0
(II) RADEON(0): v_active: 1024 v_sync: 1025 v_sync_end 1028
v_blanking: 1066 v_border: 0

I can't find svn4049-1 at that source, just svn4027-1. I can upload this if
you like, but I assume it's an older version. If you want 4027 uploaded,
just let me know and I'll get it done ASAP.

Just ship a static file in this case. That's the easy way to do it, and
since we're not even going to keep this solution in the long run it's best
to do it the easy way.
