Note that your system uses syslog. All of kdm's internally generated messages
(i.e., not from libraries and external programs/scripts it uses) go to the
daemon.* syslog facility; check your syslog configuration to find out to which
file(s) it is logged. PAM logs messages related to authentication to authpriv.*.

-Subject: [PATCH] Check null pointers to not crash on keyrepeat with Xinerama
LP: (#324465)
-
-With -nvidia, when using Xinerama, holding down a key in a text field
-on a non-primary screen can cause an X crash. This is caused because
-the MIPOINTER(pDev) can return a NULL pointer for a non-null pDev in
-some cases, and the mipointer.c code lacks checks for this condition.
-
-MIPOINTER() is a macro #defined locally to mipointer.c, which calls into
-dixLookupPrivate(), a routine which returns NULL in at least some
-circumstances - such as if the memory could not be xcalloc'd for
-whatever reason. Hopefully upstream can provide a better fix for this,
-but for now it seems reasonable to check the return values of this macro
-for NULL before usage, as a minimum.
-
-UPDATE: (Dec 3, 2009) Refreshed for xserver 1.7

I'm afraid it's not that simple, see
  https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=30647#c3 . That said, if
you can come up with a solution, it'll certainly be considered though.

How about the attached patches (against current unstable)? On the server side,
they add an EXA_REQUIRES_UPLOAD_DOWNLOAD flag, which ignores options
deactivating UTS and DFS with a warning in the logs; on the driver side, they
state that r600 requires UTS and DFS. I imagine radeon_exa_funcs.c and
 evergreen_exa.c would need a similar patch, [...]

Indeed, they would.

I can't help feeling this is overkill. Why did you set these options in
the first place?

A simpler solution might be to put a warning in the log file if any of
these options are used, reminding of the manpage bit about them only
being intended for debugging purposes, and adding that they might cause
any kind of problems.

Anyway, some technical comments on the patches below. If you still feel
they are necessary, please post them individually (e.g. as a series with
git send-email) to the xorg-de...@lists.freedesktop.org list for review.

Sorry for the mixup. I had in the meantime downgraded the driver to
have a working X available.

The video driver in question is:
xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.13.0-5

 Linux version 2.6.30.bootlogd (2.6.30) (root@mash) (gcc version 4.3.4
 (Debian 4.3.4-6) ) #1 Fri Sep 3 18:13:12 CEST 2010
What is this kernel? Is the issue reproducible with the standard Debian
 kernel?

My kernel is a custom kernel of debian linux-source 2.6.30.
I doubt that a standard debian kernel would make any difference, as the
incriminated behaviour does NOT occur when using either
xserver-xorg-video-fbdev or xserver-xorg-video-vesa drivers (they're
just incredibly slow).

Moreover all prerequisites according to the README files regarding
kernel config are fulfilled.

But should you insist -- I'm prepared to do the test.

Bug#616086: xserver-xorg-video-intel: Arbitrarily crashes X

now -intel uses KMS, plenty of features from the kernel, thus plenty
of bugs from the kernel. Moreover, squeeze's 2.6.32 has *a lot* of
fixes backported from newer kernel releases, so yes, that makes a
major difference in many cases.

If you can reproduce a crash, please check those pages:

If that's a SIGSEGV:

VT switching does not work properly anymore: The driver seems to grab the
video. When switching to a console (via Ctrl-Alt-Fn) the screen turns black
(with backlight) and seemingly unresponsive to mouse or keyboard. In fact
the system listens to the console but one has to type blind. Could be severe
if occurring on other hardware as well.

The log appended to your report shows you're using the fbdev X driver,
not intel.

Bug#616087: xserver-xorg-video-intel: VT switching not working

2011-03-03 Thread enno . vet
Dear Julien,

Again, when I sent the report I had already downgraded to have a working
system at hand.

Package in question is:
xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.13.0-5

As kibi at debian dot org has suggested, I'll do some testing with a
standard debian 2.6.32 kernel and let you know what happens.

Brgds, e.

Bug#616301: xserver-xorg-video-radeon:screen goes black, system hangs after 2sec:[youtube(FF/Opera)-reset req.]

Hi.

I also run 'aptitude update aptitude upgrade' regularly but I doubt the

Bug#598834: How to install the 2.2.2-3

2011-03-03 Thread Ian Goodacre
October 12 2010, Cyril updated that he believes this problem is fixed in
1.2.2-3. I could see the names of the files he attached but I don't see
how to open them.

March 2011, I see that squeeze and wheezy both have 2.2.2-2 and sid and
experimental have 1.3.99. I don't see any links to a 2.2.2-3 version.

Can someone tell me how to obtain the 2.2.2-3 release?

Any idea when this might show up in experimental (wheezy)?

Thanks,
Ian

I guess you meant 1.2.2-2 and 1.2.2-3 ...

You can find the older 1.2.2-3 there:
http://snapshot.debian.org/package/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/

I guess it's too late for that now that 1.3.99 is in both sid and
experimental.

 Thanks,

Hope this helps,

Plans for -intel, libdrm, mesa

2011-03-03 Thread Cyril Brulebois
Hi,

a new -intel snapshot got released, and uploaded to experimental. Not
yet to unstable, so that we have a reference version built against 1.9
in testing (once the kernel/nouveau saga permits the move to
testing…).

New libdrm got released, and will be prepared for experimental (upload
to unstable planned when migration happens as well).

Same story for mesa 7.10.1.

Thanks for your attention.

KiBi.

Do not fake an upload of 2:2.14.901-1 to unstable, this one will happen
once xorg-server 1.9.x reaches testing. So keep both last entries as
UNRELEASED.

Bug#616010: Use of debconf database disabled for newer Xorg (= 1:7.4)

2011-03-03 Thread auil

Thank you for your answer.

I was analyzing the bug report communicated a little bit more in
detail, and I think that the bug report could be deleted.

The key details are in the file xserver-xorg.postinst (placed in
directory /var/lib/dpkg/info) in the lines 722 to 728 and the line
734: The use of debconf database is disbled for newer Xorg (= 1:7.4)
and, consequently, the xorg.conf file will be not generated.

I just want to add that although under certain circunstances the
system works fine with an emtpy xorg.conf file, this is a fact very
dependent on the hardware.

In my job I need to work with very obsolete monitors and graphic
cards, and the xorg.conf file is necessary in order to introduce
tweaks to avoid misfunctions of video in obsolete hardware.

Therefore, a program like dexconf could be added to a wish list.
However, the bug report could be supressed, at criteria of the
package's maintainer.

Regards,

Fernando

xserver-xorg-video-intel: Changes to 'debian-experimental'

Rebuild against Xserver 1.10 rc3.

Due to the video ABI bump, the previous upload should have been against
1.10rc3, rather than against 1.10rc2. But 1.10rc3 was available on both
amd64 and i386, so that went unnoticed.

Let's fix it, just for the sake of having proper build dependencies in the
debian-experimental branch.

Package: xserver-xorg
Version: 1:7.5+8
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

*** Please type your report below this line ***

The bug report concerns the script /usr/bin/dexconf that is
provided by package xserver-xorg in Debian squeeze (in lenny
it works fine).

The shell-script dexconf silently fails to create the file
/etc/X11/xorg.conf in Debian squeeze. No error message is
generated.

This is a set -e script. When I comment the set -e line,
the xorg.conf if generated, but in an improper way, and
the following error message is shown:

10 xserver-xorg/config/device/bus_id doesn't exist

This error message is generated by debconf, that is used by
dexconf.

I try the command: dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg, but
after this the dexconf failure persists.

thanks for the follow-up. Let's do that then.

I just want to add that although under certain circunstances the

 dependent on the hardware.

I'd say in most cases, actually.

In my job I need to work with very obsolete monitors and graphic
cards, and the xorg.conf file is necessary in order to introduce
tweaks to avoid misfunctions of video in obsolete hardware.

That should only be about adding a section or two. I'm not sure we
want to maintain an xorg.conf generator just for some corner cases.

You may have gotten the distribution wrong. You'll get warnings above
if files already exist in other distributions.
