Bug#622308: Downgrading xserver-xorg-video-intel seems to help

 everything seems to work fine.

Of course that will downgrade several other xserver-xorg* packages as well, so
it might be possible that the actual bug is one of the other packages.

Bug#594684: Please apply and rebuild the package

2011-04-18 Thread Cyril Brulebois
Hi,

Roman Mamedov r...@romanrm.ru (18/04/2011):
So... with a patch available for 1 month+, why is this still not
applied and uploaded? The driver is currently useless on MIPS
without this patch. Why do you make people jump through hoops just
to use Debian on the Yeeloong (manually recompiling Xorg)?
 http://wiki.debian.org/DebianYeeloong/HowTo/Install

you know about volunteer-based distributions? Debian is one of
them. Meaning nobody (generally) gets paid to work on it, and meaning
stuff gets done when people have time to.

 With respect,
 Roman

(You're actually not showing much respect here.)

If you want to speed up things, get the patch reviewed upstream:

2011-04-18 Thread Cyril Brulebois
Hi,

Benjamin sachdoc...@gmail.com (17/04/2011):
I’m using the Neo layout with the right Alt key remapped as Control_R:

$ setxkbmap -model pc105 -layout de -variant neo
 $ xmodmap -e 'remove Mod3 = ISO_Level5_Shift'
 $ xmodmap -e 'keycode 108 = Control_R'
 $ xmodmap -e 'add Control = Control_R'

I think you can do everything through setxkbmap, which (contrary to
xmodmap) will likely be fixed/enhanced if there are any issues with
it.

See available options in /usr/share/X11/xkb/rules/base.lst

Options are passed like that:

or:

If a person stepped up to be a maintainer of a package, a certain amount of
responsibility is expected. If they can not do something as simple as
applying an already prepared patch in a 1.5 month timeframe, maybe it's
time for them to just stop holding things up and put the package up as
orphaned. If you have people waiting and relying on you, and simply can't
deliver, then just stop wasting everyone's time.

Actually I reviewed the patch and notice it actually touches not the
-siliconmotion driver, but xserver-xorg-core. Maybe the bug should be
reassigned as well?

Bug#623138: xserver-xorg-video-intel: Blank screen in X (no crash) after upgrading from Lenny to Wheezy, Sony Vaio PCG-R505B/P

2011-04-18 Thread Cyril Brulebois
Hi,

Andrew Bettison andr...@zip.com.au (17/04/2011):
After upgrading my Sony Vaio PCG-R505B/P laptop from Lenny to
Squeeze, the X screen (vt7) is always blank after booting.
Switching virtual terminals works, and everything else appears to
work fine (this bug report is being written on a SSH session on the
laptop in question). The screen is still blank after restarting
 gdm.

Marked as important because the two available workarounds do not
work: using the fbdev driver crashes the kernel, and the vesa driver
always gives no screens found error (despite exhausting all
 possibilities in xorg.conf).

from your logs:

 [1.231422] agpgart-intel :00:00.0: Intel 830M Chipset
...
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation 82830 CGC

That falls into the “old card” category mentioned in our FAQ:

Sorry. :/

This is an intermittant bug when I wake the machine from sleep. I'm
fairly certain that this didn't occur before I updated to kernel
 2.6.38.

it's always good to have a full backtrace:
  http://pkg-xorg.alioth.debian.org/howto/use-gdb.html

Anyway, you might want to try and upgrade mesa (libgl1-mesa-*) to the

but you may want to wait until 2.15final is uploaded.

Thanks, but there doesn’t seem to be an option for mapping ctrl to the right
alt key.

ctrl:nocaps Make Caps Lock an additional Ctrl
 ctrl:lctrl_meta Meta on Left Ctrl
 ctrl:swapcapsSwap Ctrl and Caps Lock
 ctrl:ctrl_ac At left of 'A'
 ctrl:ctrl_aa At bottom left
ctrl:ctrl_ra Right Ctrl as Right Alt
ctrl:ctrl_menu Right Ctrl is mapped to Menu

I’ll open a feature request for x11-xkb-utils.

Bug#622707: Fwd: [Bug 36302] touchpad losing sync: 2 instances of synaptics module loaded and wrongly detected as multitouch

2011-04-18 Thread Andres Cimmarusti
Below is the response I got from the synaptics driver developer. He
believes it's a kernel issue and it should be reported there.
I will try to push this in that direction

kernel issue. From the drivers POV, the touchpad disappears and a different
device comes back. That device doesn't look like a touchpad though and hence
the driver doesn't activate on it.

If you look at the second half of the log, you'll see that evdev finds x/y
relative and a few buttons. Touchpads, if not initialized by the kernel,
usually look like PS/2 mice. Tapping and other features are implemented in
hardware/firmware and look like a button click once the event reaches user
space.

Please report this to the kernel, it needs to re-initialize the touchpad.

Bug#622299: Corrupt GL rendering with KMS (r300) enabled on IA-64 platform (Itanium)

2011-04-18 Thread Émeric Maschino
Hello Michel,

If you pass --with-dri-drivers=r300 to configure, the classic driver
should end up in lib/r300_dri.so, as opposed to r300g in
lib/gallium/r300_dri.so . You can override libGL's search path with the
LIBGL_DRIVERS_PATH environment variable, and if you also set
LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose, it prints on stderr where it loads the driver from.

So, something isn't working as expected. If I follow the How to build
mesa page (http://pkg-xorg.alioth.debian.org/howto/build-mesa.html),
there's no r300 classic driver, but classic radeon driver (as can be
read in the Preparing mesa sources section: For r300 (the options
are named radeon), you need:). So, with:

emeric@longspeak:~/mesa.git$ ./configure \
  --enable-driglx-direct \
  --enable-gallium \
  --enable-gles-overlay \
  --enable-gles1 \
  --enable-gles2 \
  --enable-glx-tls \
  --with-driver=dri \
  --with-dri-driverdir=/usr/lib/dri \
  --with-egl-platforms='drm x11' \
  --with-state-trackers=egl,glx,dri,vega \
  --with-dri-drivers=radeon --enable-gallium-radeon

both the classic and Gallium drivers are built, as emphasized by the
configure output:

prefix: /usr/local
exec_prefix: ${prefix}
libdir: ${exec_prefix}/lib
includedir: ${prefix}/include

OpenGL: yes (ES1: yes ES2: yes)
OpenVG: yes

Driver: dri
OSMesa: no
DRI drivers: radeon
DRI driver dir: /usr/lib/dri
Use XCB: no
Shared dricore: no

GLU: yes
GLw: yes (Motif: no)
glut:yes

EGL: yes
EGL platforms: drm x11
EGL drivers: builtin:egl_glx builtin:egl_dri2 egl_gallium
EGL Gallium STs: $(GL_LIB) $(VG_LIB)

llvm:no

Gallium: yes
Gallium dirs:auxiliary drivers state_trackers
Target dirs: egl dri-r300 dri-swrast
Winsys dirs: sw sw/xlib sw/dri i915/sw radeon/drm
Driver dirs: softpipe failover galahad trace rbug noop
identity svga i915 i965 r300
Trackers dirs: egl glx dri vega

Shared libs: yes
Static libs: no

And indeed, I'm getting both the classic radeon_dri.so driver and
Gallium r300_dri.so driver, right?

emeric@longspeak:~/mesa.git$ ls lib/
egllibGLESv1_CM.so.1.1.0 libglut.so
galliumlibGLESv2.so libglut.so.3
libEGL.so libGLESv2.so.2 libglut.so.3.7.1

libGLESv1_CM.solibGLU.so.1libOpenVG.so.1.0.0
libGLESv1_CM.so.1 libGLU.so.1.3.071100 radeon_dri.so

emeric@longspeak:~/mesa.git$ ls lib/gallium/
r300_dri.so swrastg_dri.so

From what I understand, since I passed --enable-gallium-radeon, the
Gallium driver will be used by default.

So, still following the How to build mesa page:

emeric@longspeak:~/mesa.git$ mv lib/gallium/* lib/
emeric@longspeak:~/mesa.git$ export LIBGL_DRIVERS_PATH=lib
emeric@longspeak:~/mesa.git$ LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose glxinfo 21
/dev/null | grep so$
libGL: OpenDriver: trying lib/tls/r300_dri.so
libGL: OpenDriver: trying lib/r300_dri.so
libGL: OpenDriver: trying lib/tls/r300_dri.so
libGL: OpenDriver: trying lib/r300_dri.so
(don't know why I'm getting twice the output)

And glxinfo is rendering through the newly built Gallium driver:

OpenGL vendor string: X.Org R300 Project
OpenGL renderer string: Gallium 0.4 on ATI R300
OpenGL version string: 2.1 Mesa 7.11-devel (git-6a35cbb)

Now, trying to swith back to the classic driver:

emeric@longspeak:~/mesa.git$ ./configure \
  --enable-driglx-direct \
  --enable-gallium \
  --enable-gles-overlay \
  --enable-gles1 \
  --enable-gles2 \
  --enable-glx-tls \
  --with-driver=dri \
  --with-dri-driverdir=/usr/lib/dri \
  --with-egl-platforms='drm x11' \
  --with-state-trackers=egl,glx,dri,vega \
  --with-dri-drivers=radeon

(removed --enable-gallium-radeon from the passed options).

Gallium is nevertheless built as can be seen in the configure output:

prefix: /usr/local
exec_prefix: ${prefix}
libdir: ${exec_prefix}/lib
includedir: ${prefix}/include

OpenGL: yes (ES1: yes ES2: yes)
OpenVG: yes

Driver: dri
OSMesa: no
DRI drivers: radeon
DRI driver dir: /usr/lib/dri
Use XCB: no

libdrm: (revised) vblank wait on crtc 1

Hi Alex,

Enclosed is a revised version of the patch sent on Mar 18, against
the master branch of the drm userspace (i.e. libdrm). Details
summarised in this thread:
http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/dri-devel/2011-March/009499.html

This patch reconciles libdrm with the the kernel change that Dave
pushed this morning. It *supersedes* the previously sent patch (i.e.
apply it to the master branch as it exists at the time of this writing,
not as an incremental patch to the one sent previously).

Regards,

Ilija

Bug#622308: xserver-xorg-video-intel: sporadic graphics corruption after upgrade to 2.6.38

2011-04-18 Thread Nathan Stine
On Mon, Apr 11, 2011 at 9:21 PM, Cyril Brulebois k...@debian.org wrote:

 Hi,

 Nathan A. Stine nathan.st...@gmail.com (11/04/2011):
I've noticed that after an upgrade to kernel version 2.6.38 from
  2.6.37

 interesting, you just upgraded that?

I was on .37 for awhile until I started running .38.

I also apologize if I'm reporting this bug against the wrong
package.  This is a driver issue as near as I can tell (maybe kernel
related or a compatibility issue), but it may be something
  completely different.

Yeah, X's fun, plenty of possibly guilty packages. :) Your guess looks
fine for now, feel free to report your bug upstream directly:
  https://bugs.freedesktop.org/ (product xorg, component Driver/intel)

I had the same kind of issues but a kernel upgrade fixed it (during
the .38 release cycle), maybe there are some glitches left.

We're AFAICT only lacking a package for latest libdrm; not sure it's
worth waiting until (say..) tomorrow for an updated libdrm package to
be available, I think opening a bug upstream is the right thing to do.

Also, feel free to Cc me while submitting it, so that I can keep an
eye on its status, and mark this bug as forwarded there.

Sure thing...just as soon as my new heatsink/fan comes in. My main
box is out of commission right now and when it comes back up, I'll
file the bug upstream.

 Thanks!

 KiBi.

Best regards,

Nathan A. Stine

X crashed about 4 times today. It did not crash directly after the
upgrade or yesterday, as far as I can remember, but now it seems
to crash. I am running GNOME 3 with gnome-shell, and thus use
compositing.

I attached upgrade logs of the past days, as well as
a X log showing the bug. The relevant part is:
