Revert specify '3.0 (quilt)' source format

This reverts commit 34fa27e8d6282aee1e2134b07bdae0f6930c5ee8.

Turns out that debian-x is in two worlds at the same time:

We use the orig tarball to build the package,
but we directly track upstream in git in the packaging.

source format 1.0 is better than 3.0 (quilt) for that workflow. With
3.0 (quilt), as an example, the following fails when upstream has
differences between the git repository and the released tarball (and
upstream does, in our case):

git clone git://git.debian.org/git/pkg-xorg/driver/xserver-xorg-video-intel
cd xserver-xorg-video-intel
uscan --download-current-version
debuild -S

Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel
Version: 2:2.21.15-1+b1
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

I'm testing the SNA acceleration method since ≈ 1 month without any
apparent regressions. I think it could be interesting to enable it
early in the Jessie development in order to catch regressions on the
potentially large range of Intel hardware that Debian users are using.

Opinion?

Cheers,
Vincent

Bug#761491: GPU HANG in /var/log/kern.log

2014-09-14 Thread Yvan Masson

Package: libdrm-intel1
Version: 2.4.56-1

Dear maintainer,
Using Linux 3.16-1-686-pae (version 3.16.2-3), I am having problems :
  - Hangs on boot most of the time (needs hard shutdown)
  - On resume (after a suspend to ram), screen backlight not powering on (needs
a reboot, soft or hard)

I looked in /var/log/kern.log and found this, which might be linked :

Sep 14 10:08:11 yvan-macbook kernel: [2.076130] [drm] GPU hangs can

Sep 14 10:08:11 yvan-macbook kernel: [2.076131] [drm] Please file a
_new_ bug report on bugs.freedesktop.org against DRI - DRM/Intel
Sep 14 10:08:11 yvan-macbook kernel: [2.076132] [drm] drm/i915
developers can then reassign to the right component if it's not a kernel
issue.

I am still trying to reproduce exactly the same state of freeze as
   mentioned in the bug.
Of course it can be a bug in kernel or somewhere else but if I had
   uninstalled packages
   xserver-xorg-video-radeon, xserver-xorg-video-iti
and installed in that place packages:
   fglrx-modules-dkms and firmware-linux-nonfree
the error of freezing did not appeared.

(Note that the firmware-linux-nonfree package is required for the radeon
driver, not for fglrx, but the information you've provided shows that it
  was installed)

It seems like the crashes you're experiencing are more or less random
and all over the place. I can think of two basic explanations for that:
Either the GPU is scribbling over random system memory locations, or
there is a problem with the RAM or some other hardware component in the
  system.

You can test for the latter with the memtest86(+) or memtester package.

Thanks much for suggestions concerning memtest.
In both cases (radeon or fglrx) I had firmware-linux-nonfree
 package installed.
The last freeze was coused by SIGPIPE broken and I was able
to get a full backtrace with gdb - enclosed here as a txt file:
 sigpipe_backtrace.txt.
Could you have a look at it and say somthing about it. ?

SIGPIPE in the X server is not an issue, it's expected whenever a client
goes away. You should continue past that signal, or tell gdb not to
stop on it.

Julien

Updated Xorg using aptitude to latest testing branch.
Upon restarting lightdm the Xserver crashes after loading the initial
GTK-greeter screen, then reloads repeatedly which makes it impossible
to login to the machine without rebooting into recovery mode.

Please file your own bug and include the relevant logs.

Bug#761445: Not X.Org bug, probably libpciaccess0 one; fix attached

2014-09-14 Thread Julien Cristau
On Sun, Sep 14, 2014 at 03:39:10 +0400, Vitaliy Filippov wrote:

With the help of gdb memory breakpoints, I've found the bug and made a sort
 of fix for it...

The real problem is not in X.Org, but more in either libdrm-intel1 or
 libpciaccess0...

The problem is that libdrm-intel1 calls pci_system_init() and then
 pci_system_cleanup() in function drm_intel_probe_agp_aperture_size from
intel_bufmgr.c, and it doesn't take into account that someone else may need
it, while libpciaccess0 just blindly accepts all these calls and does
 init/deinit.

The solution that first came to my mind is to reference count init/deinit
calls so real init doesn't happen twice, and real deinit doesn't happen
until the last user calls cleanup. The patch is attached; X.Org crash goes
away after rebuilding libpciaccess0 with it...

Maybe it also would be good to fix libdrm-intel1 in some way, but it seems a
 slightly harder task :-)

The bug probably should be retargeted to libpciaccess0 package...

Please report this on xorg-de...@lists.x.org and intel-...@lists.x.org.

Thanks,
Julien

Strictly speaking you're right, practically speaking that type and the
on public function that uses it are only used by the X server itself

Bug#761608: /usr/bin/X: setuid wrapper should sanitize environment

2014-09-14 Thread Simon McVittie
Package: xserver-xorg
Version: 1:7.7+7
Severity: wishlist
File: /usr/bin/X

As explained in https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=83849
I think that because setuid executables create a trust boundary
(they are run in an environment chosen by their less privileged parent),
they should filter the environment variables seen by their linked libraries
(in this case virtually none) and their child processes, via a whitelist.

(Actually, I'd prefer /usr/bin/X to just not be setuid, because when
run by display managers, it doesn't need to be - but I realise that would
break startx/xinit, and some people like those. This is the next best thing.)

We can just change the caller to not call except when needed as a patch
for 1.16. I almost did that on master, but decided to just make the

As far as I can tell that patch is an ABI break, as
present_complete_notify_proc is exported in the SDK. So I'm not sure I
can pull that in to the 1.16 branch. Keith, any idea how to resolve
  that?

We can just change the caller to not call except when needed as a patch
for 1.16. I almost did that on master, but decided to just make the
interface pass all of the arguments.

Right, that's even simpler...

Subject: [PATCH] glx/present: Only send GLX_BufferSwapComplete for
 PresentCompleteKindPixmap

Present didn't provide the 'kind' argument to the
present_complete_notify hook that GLX uses to construct
GLX_BufferSwapComplete events, so GLX was reporting events for
PresentCompleteKindMSC notifications, which resulted in duplicate
GLX_BufferSwapComplete events and crashes in clutter.
