Bug#654973: xorg: screen lock on thinkpad t30 when laptop lid closed

2012-01-07 Thread Michael P. Soulier
Package: xorg
Version: 1:7.5+8+squeeze1
Severity: normal

On my thinkpad t30, after installing Debian Squeeze, I configured the power
management to only blank the screen when the lid is closed. For some unknown
reason there is no do nothing option.

When the lid is closed and reopened, the screen displays random garbage and
does not recover. A reboot fixes it.

I have had various earlier Ubuntu releases on this laptop without such issues,
so perhaps the problem is a newer version of xorg or the kernel.

On further experimentation, I found that if I run fluxbox I don't have this
problem. It only happens in gnome.

Bug#622127: xserver-xorg: X locks up randomly on Intel chipset

2011-04-10 Thread Michael P. Soulier
Package: xserver-xorg
Version: 1:7.5+8
Severity: important

At seemingly random times X locks up completely. The UI will not respond to any
input except to go to a virtual terminal.

If I kill X from that terminal, the display manager will not come back, the
screen remains black with a cursor.

I must finally reboot the system.

is it going better with squeeze or sid? Make sure you check the FAQ
entry about the intel driver on:

Actually I think GDM is the problem. I installed XDM and I didn't see the
problem again. The box is still running Lenny.

2010-11-02 Thread Michael P. Soulier
Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel
Version: 2:2.3.2-2+lenny8
Severity: normal

On nearly every first boot of this Dell Dimension 2400 PC running Lenny, when
X starts up the screen simply goes blank and the computer is unresponsive. I
have to reboot the computer for it to finally come up and permit a login.
