Bug#390913: xserver-xorg-video-i810: blank screen after suspend

I'll have to investigate which change caused this behaviour, as I didn't reboot my machine for the last few weeks. I get my screen back, if I do a console-X11-switch. Did you try passing acpi_sleep=s3_bios to the kernel or use vbetool post after resume as suggested earlier? It is meant to avoid this blank screen after resume. "vbetool post" didn't work properly: screen goes on, but is garbled. X11-console-switch brings it back to ok, but X11 background is broken then; it looks like some test image. With our without vbetool, the standard text console is broken now after a resume. acp_sleep=s3_bios helps, X11 and console screen come back normal after suspend. Nevertheless, it's a small regression, as it worked before without this option. According to my xorg.1.log, the version I used before was: (II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers//i810_drv.so (II) Module i810: vendor="X.Org Foundation" compiled for 7.1.1, module version = 1.7.2 Module class: X.Org Video Driver ABI class: X.Org Video Driver, version 1.0 -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". An update of the BIOS might fix it, too. But I don't won't to hassle with that. I'd also called this bug fixed. Apart from that, I sometimes experience an apparent total freeze upon logout from X (LCD totally dark, no pattern visible, system does not respond anymore). I don't know whether this is related to the 2.x-version of the Intel-driver or anything else. I will try to reproduce it and see whether this is related to the driver. So 2:2.0.0-5 + "acpi_sleep=s3_bios" work perfectly :). Good to know, thanks. > But why would I still need to pass the extra kernel command-line, can't > you take care of this within the driver code ? I don't know exactly, but I guess "acpi_sleep=s3_bios" changes the way the kernel restores things. The Xorg driver is far away from this kernel code (it does not run in kernel space, and it's very late in resume process). I think it's very common (not intel-chipset specific) to have to pass such an option to get resume to work. Brice -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Ok, I have installed the version from experimental (2:2.0.0-5). The problem still persists, i.e. the screen is blank (it's just the LCD backlight which is not turned on, you can a dim picture) upon resume but I can get it back with "vbetool post" *and* switching to and fro a text-console (vbetool alone won't do it). Passing "acpi_sleep=s3_bios" will also fix it and *without* the need of extra console-switching. So 2:2.0.0-5 + "acpi_sleep=s3_bios" work perfectly :). But why would I still need to pass the extra kernel command-line, can't you take care of this within the driver code ? Hi, I am contacting all of you again since everybody does not agree whether this bug is fixed or not. It could be related to which chipset you have. It would be good if all of you could try with the latest xserver-xorg-video-intel driver (2:2.0.0-5 currently in experimental). It is supposed to resume well. If you still experience a black screen at resume, you should try either passing acpi_sleep=s3_bios to the kernel, or use vbetool post after resume (some high-level suspending program can take care of this for you, for instance with the uswsusp package). * Lars Noschinski <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> [2006-10-07 12:45]: I've got a similar problem with an "Intel Corporation Mobile 915GM/GMS/910GML Express Graphics Controller (rev 03)": After resume from suspend-to-ram, the screen stays black (even the backlight); but the Keyboard (and the rest of the system) continues to work. This problem doesn't occur with 1.5.1.0-2. I tested version 1.6.1, 1.6.2, 1.6.5 and 1.7.0 from the xf86-video-intel git repository and they all show this behaviour. So this bug is either due to some change between 1.5.1 and 1.6.1 or an change in Xorg itself between 7.0.22 and 7.1.0. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Package: xserver-xorg-video-i810 Version: 2:1.6.5-3 Severity: important Justification: unsuitable for release After upgrading to xorg from unstable, my laptop with an "Intel Corporation 82852/855GM Integrated Graphics Device" is unable to resume video output after a suspend, the screen remains blank screen and keyboard is dead (no ALT-BACKSPACE, ALT+Fx). Downgrading to xserver-xorg-video-i810 version 1.5.1.0-2 from testing solves the problem. PD: you are free to lower the severity of the bug if you think it is not correct.
