Bug#537959: [xserver-xorg-video-intel] Lost hardware rendering when upgraded to 2.8.0-1

2009-07-22 Thread Huy
Hi Brice

CONFIG_HIGHMEM64G was indeed enabled and the problem, it is working now!

Thank you very much, if I hadn't asked you, this wouldn't be fixed by now.

Although my situation is probably rare, maybe we should add a comment
mentioning this in the
Changelog or README just in case, for other people who also happen to compile
their own kernel with
this option.

Thanks again

Huy

Do you have CONFIG_HIGHMEM64G in your kernel ? If so, GEM cannot work
with this option (before 2.6.31).

If not, can you try a Debian kernel? Or send your kernel .config and dmesg?

Thanks
Brice

Hi Brice, Thanks for the very quick reply!

I already do have those options set in the config as modules, should I have
built those in or does
it matter?

Thank you very much

Huy

Bug#537959: [xserver-xorg-video-intel] Lost hardware rendering when upgraded to 2.8.0-1

2009-07-22 Thread Huy
Hi there, thanks for checking it out.

I'm confused, it's the same kernel, worked before driver upgrade, did not work
after.

Unless I missed a config in my custom kernel, in which case could you give a
hint as to which option
I should have enabled?

Thank you

Huy

Intel 2.8 enforces the UXA acceleration. You might have been running
with EXA instead with the old driver.
Only UXA requires kernel GEM support.

CONFIG_AGP
CONFIG_AGP_INTEL
CONFIG_DRM
CONFIG_DRM_I915
should be enough

(EE) intel(0): [drm] Failed to detect GEM. Kernel 2.6.28 required.
(EE) intel(0): Failed to become DRM master.

Did you forget something in your custom 2.6.30 kernel ?

Brice
