[Declude.JunkMail] DORKZTL:DNS Report Down?

2002-04-02 Thread Don Schreiner

Can anyone bring up DNSReport.com and DNSStuff.com? Are they down?
Anyone experiencing regional connectivity errors?

Re: [Declude.JunkMail] Exactly our point on SPAM.

2002-04-02 Thread R. Scott Perry

= A 50 Page Targeted HTML Broadcast Email Advertisement with
Pictures to 50,000,000 People through the Internet is Free.

Most spammers are liars, too:

At 100K per piece (quite small, if really a 50 page HTML ad with
pictures), times 50,000,000 recipients, is over 4.5 terabytes of data. On
a 56K dialup connection (assuming a good 5000 bytes/second), that would
take over 30 years to send (or $7,200 at $20/month). Even on a T1
connection, it would take over a year.

Of course, that assumes that each E-mail has to be sent separately. Much
better performance would occur if the E-mails were sent in a smart method
(IE all E-mails sent to users @example.com would be sent together with one
connection), but you're still talking big bucks, even if you can find an
ISP that will allow you to spew that much mail.

Of course, I wonder what type of targeted list has 50,000,000 E-mail
addresses on it. :)
