[Declude.JunkMail] How Accurate is Sniffer?

2006-11-30 Thread David Dodell
I'm doing my 30 day trial of Message Sniffer .. at the moment it is 5
points out of 10 needed to mark something as spam.

How accurate is Sniffer?Something that I can raise my weight on?

We weight sniffer enough to move something to the users junk mail
folder.

My opinion is that it is very accurate, we mark messages as spam on just
that, altho would not delete on any single test.

We have used it for about 3 years now.

You might want to run it for a little while to see what results you get. I've
gotten a lot of false positives with Sniffer.

These days many folks are setting SNF to their hold weight.

A conservative approach has been to set SNF just below your hold
weight so that SNF plus one other test will hold a message.

The newest spam campaigns have made things very difficult to filter so
we have been recommending that at least some result codes should be
weighted high enough to hold a message - especially group 60 and 61
since they are often the only test that will fire.

Hope this helps,

_M

Make sure you forward all false positives to them for review.
