The actual algorithm varies with each bank, so you need to contact all
the banks that you intend to support in regards to checkdigit checking.

Contact your local bank, they can supply you with an algorythm that
you can use to check if a number is correct.

Hi

I didn't even know you could do the TObject thing. However it King of
makes sense. If you use Error : Tobject you are treating the exception
object passed in as a generic TObject (base class), so it would work but
you wouldn't have access to TException methods, like e.message.

RE: [DUG] What is the difference by using following two methods?

2007-08-06 Thread Conor Boyd
I'm not aware of any difference in the real world.

From the help on try..except statements (in D7, 'cos I can't bring
myself to try looking for it in D2006 Help), here are some relevant
snippets:
The syntax of a try...except statement is
try statements except exceptionBlock end
where statements is a sequence of statements (delimited by
semicolons) and exceptionBlock is either
another sequence of statements or
a sequence of exception handlers,

So for a start, you can put any statements you like in the except
section.

Then:
An exception handler has the form
on identifier: type do statement
where identifier: is optional (if included, identifier can be
any valid identifier),
type is a type used to represent exceptions, and statement is
any statement.

Type can be any valid class, which can thus be TObject.

Now one would argue that it's not much use as a TObject, since in
reality it is an Exception or one of it's descendants, which is why
convention dictates that we write it as an Exception or whatever
particular exception type we're interested in.

But there's nothing in the help that says we have to declare it as an
Exception. I would expect the behaviour for the two examples you have
given to be identical, unless you have some crazy code which explicitly
raises an exception of a type which doesn't inherit from the Exception
class. And by crazy I mean something like:
raise TObject.Create;
Which does compile. ;-)

Always using Exception or it's descendants is just convention.

Cheers,

C.

Hi, I am getting fed up of navigating Quality Control with the browser.

First it hasnt worked inside the IDE for a while, I figured out today
that its because it does nto work in IE. Works fine with firefox. It
is so slow. I cant figure out how to rate any report. I cant transfer
a report if I posted it in a wrong area. I cant close it if I made a
mistake.

Pain pain pain, enough to not bother.

Is it any easier with the Windows or Java Client ?

I flick it on and off multiple times a day.

If you right click on the toolbar are and select Customise. Nowehere

RE: [DUG] for..loop

Never rely on this. With optimisations on, for loops often start at the high
number and work down. The variable can also be stuck in a register, which can
be trashed on leaving the loop.

In short, it is undefined.

Hi

Like others have said, it could change at any time. If I need to nkow
if something was found there is usually another variable asside from
the counter that can be checked.

I almost always use while loops when searching for items as you can
easily exit them without using 'Break' (which I have an aversion to).
I mainly use for loops for loading all values of a list.

p.s. has anyone else noticed that sometimes when you step through a for
loop the counter actually counts down (in the debugger) (even if it set
to count up). This was the case sometimes in D6 if I recall correctly.

Maybe.

But I would suggest that if the doco says it's undefined, then you'd be
far safer writing the extra bit of code required to give you complete
