Rick Hillegas commented on DERBY-6945:
--
Attaching derby-6945-XX-moveDataSourceFactories. This is an abandoned patch,
which I am attaching so that it can be revived later on if we decide to
re-visit the following decisions.
I ran jdeps again. The module boundaries look almost like what I had hoped for.
Unfortunately, the engine and client jars still depend on java.naming. I tried
moving the ClientDataSourceFactory out of the client jar and up into the tools
jar. That compiled and tested cleanly. However, when I investigated the
dependence of the engine jar on JNDI, I discovered that the dependency arises
because of the LDAP authentication service.
I am going to let the engine and client jars continue to depend on java.naming.
There may be a way to mark that dependency as optional. Alternatively, in the
future we may want to revive this patch and move ClientDataSourceFactory and
LDAPAuthenticationSchemeImpl up into the tools jar.

> Once we commit to building with Java 9 (see DERBY-6856), we should consider
> re-packaging Derby as a set of jigsaw modules. This would result in a
> different set of release artifacts. This might be a good opportunity to
> address the Tomcat artifactory issues raised by issue DERBY-6944.
