Re: [libreoffice-design] [Vote] Consistent theme for screenshots
Hi Bernhard, thanks for managing this ... Am Freitag, den 08.07.2011, 01:23 +0200 schrieb Bernhard Dippold: [...] It is based on the Clearlooks theme (on GNOME, ports to KDE and Windows XP available too) with a definite font with weight and size (Liberation bold 11 pt for window titles) and adds a LibreOffice palette color (Libre Green 2) for highlighted areas like windows headers. If you want to establish a recommendation to use this modified theme for screenshots, please add +1 here: +1 Note: I still think that LibreOffice Green 1 would be more pleasing to the eye in the long run, but Green 2 is okay as well. Others want to propose a broad variety of different themes on screenshots in order to show the diversity of LibreOffice and it's possibility to be installed on different platforms in the documentation screenshots. They fear that new contributors might turn away when they find out, that there is a recommendation how to create screenshots for documentation and marketing. If you prefer a way without caring about recommendations, just creating the screenshots you like, please add your +1 here: -1 Note: Guidelines help, even if there are sometimes reasons to not enforce them (e.g. for the new features section, if only a quickly made screenshot by a developer is available and we lack time to re-do it.) By the way, the question itself is a bit hard to understand - so please guys be aware that -1 = recommendation is good, and +1 = no recommendation wanted. A second question has been raised by Marc inside the thread: He asked for a unified cursor style to be included in thee package. His proposal: Use a standardized cursor theme like OpenZone white for the screenshots and include this cursor in the theme for the colors. If you agree with him on the cursor/pointers, please sign here for a second time with +1: -1 Changing cursor themes is an additional step and usually not required when taking screenshots (assuming that the cursor doesn't vary too much between the operating systems). But, if somebody adds this as an optional recommendation and provides a package for that - why not use it? On the other hand I think that most platforms provide similar pointers and cursors, so this part doesn't need to be included in this voting. I'd propose a more inclusive wiki page including a recommendation to use a consistent cursor. -1 Cheers, Christoph -- Unsubscribe instructions: E-mail to design+h...@global.libreoffice.org Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/design/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted
Re: [libreoffice-design] Icons
Hi Andrew! Great that you like the LibO icons ... concerning the remaining once, my answer might be not that helpful, since I'm not an expert when it comes to our source code repository. There, you find all the (default) icons being based on the Tango theme. Web access is available here: http://cgit.freedesktop.org/libreoffice/artwork/ But how to extract them - don't know. Maybe the Tango theme page is better suited for your needs: http://tango.freedesktop.org/Tango_Desktop_Project Hope this helps :-) Cheers, Christoph Am Freitag, den 08.07.2011, 15:39 -0400 schrieb Andrew Pullins: How would I get all of the icons for LibreOffice. RE: [libreoffice-design] merge Print Layout pages
If I understand you correctly, you are proposing to keep Print Layout how it is and instead add a new view-layout called Draft Layout. And this Draft Layout would merge the ends and beginnings of pages together like the pic I uploaded to imgur illustrates? If I understand this correctly, the Draft Layout sounds like a great solution. But I would kindly suggest adding a setting that lets users set Draft Layout as the default layout that Writer displays when it is opened. So when I open Writer to begin a document, Draft Layout is the view that is selected by default. I would have to manually change it if I wanted Print Layout or Web Layout. Does this make sense? Subject: RE: [libreoffice-design] merge Print Layout pages From: christ...@dogmatux.com To: design@global.libreoffice.org Date: Sat, 9 Jul 2011 15:39:37 +0200 Hi all, just a short comment, since I once analyzed some of the today available views in Writer (during the OOo UX times). I think that the enhancement request is just a half-way solution that just adds some more complexity to Writer without solving the real issue. For example, even Microsoft changed the behavior from 2003 to 2007 and made this feature more hidden. I assume they wanted to completely remove it, but feared the feedback by the existing user base. My take: The enhancement request should target a real Draft view, which considers page breaks and the width of the real pages without showing the borders etc. This would also solve a lot of other issues in this area ... not only one. But, this is really tough work - I omit all the details, but I talked with one of the Devs during the FOSDEM and I got some introduction in the internal issues of the Writer structure (there, we talked about an outline view). Do you agree somehow? If yes, I'd like to rewrite the enhancement request. Just a comment: Word 2010 still has this merge page ends capability. I'm not understanding what you mean when you said Microsoft changed the behavior from 2003 to 2007 and made this feature 'more hidden.' [libreoffice-design] Packaging idea for LibreOffice software
Hi all, I've been buried under research for the last few months and I've just returned to see that I'm buried under hundreds of Emails to get through. While I'll work through them in the next few days to catch up, there was something I wanted to show you guys before I left, but didn't... It is a packaging idea for people who distribute LibO on CD/DVD. Granted, it's not going to be everyone's idea of practical or professional but it does demonstrate a valuable link to our values and gives us a chance to really stand out. Why? Because the package is made entirely from paper. A4 paper and A3 paper, folded in on itself, to hide the edges and in a way that makes the packaging both a brochure, and a case. It fits two Discs neatly, can be printed on any printer (bleed is accounted for). It does not require any glueing or cutting (true to the values of Origami, from which it is inspired). If printed on 100% recycled paper (as intended) it would show our commitment to sustainability. More than traditional PVC cases at least. Above all else, it is actually just very nice to hold. Many people I gave it to said it reminded them of old 5.25inch floppy disks from back in the day. Intrigued?... http://liberated.nikashsingh.org/html/papercase.html This might be more of an idea that sits well with us tree-hugging student-types, but I just thought it might be worth sharing. If you guys think it's worth exploring, I can upload the template so you can print one and fold it for yourself. It really has to be held to be appreciated I think. And it may be the best existing indication of how I imagine our branding language could look and feel. Simple, clean, honest, pure and vibrant. -Nik Bernhard, Christoph, I'm really off-tempo here, if there is anything I should work on immediately (while I have this break) or anything I left unfinished please let me know. -- Unsubscribe instructions: E-mail to design+h...@global.libreoffice.org Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/design/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted

That also makes community distribution much easier. If the CDs could be easily made too, it would be even better. But this looks fantastic and very attractive-- I'd certainly use it. As the UI is nearly unchanged from the OOo UI, you should have a look at the OpenOffice.org specifications.
