Re: [libreoffice-design] Re: Looking for a new splash screen

2012-06-10 Thread Stefan Knorr (Astron)
Hi Adolfo,

For the in-program artwork, it's right, we just need PNG's
However, there are two reasons why we want SVG:

#1 License compliance: the LGPL license say that you have to be able
to show the source for any given part of a covered work. It is a bit
of a stretch to try to apply a software source code license to
artwork, but nonetheless we'd like to be on the safe side. (If you
started out with Gimp, then obviously the source would be an XCF
file.)

#2 The other, very practical reason is that we might want to make
changes (maybe now, maybe later) – that could range from adapting the
dimensions of the splash screen to having to add a version number ...;
with a raster image all of that is a bit harder.

Hope this helps,

Astron.

I’ve submitted my first draft, but I made it in GIMP. Why is SVG
required, if not to make raster images from it? I can upload my source
.xcf, though, and later I can redo it in Inkscape.

2012-06-08 Thread Kévin PEIGNOT
Hi all

I updated the Wiki Page to add a proposal : A color coded splash screen
(based on Minty proposal by Astron) :
 - Progress bar use the color of the launched app:
 - Blue progress bar for Writer
 - Red progress bar for Impress
 - Yellow progress bar for Draw
 - ...
 - Grey progress bar for general LibO launch (LibO main window)
- On Unofficial builds (Community builds), as with Astron's proposal, do
not display The Document Foundation, and make the triangles grey.

Excuse me for the designs, they aren't beautiful, but I used Inkscape for
the first time (and I'm at work I don't have a long time)

What do you think of :

-Having a few differences whether we launch Writer, Calc, Main window...
-This design ?

Kévin

Nevermind, I’ve redone my design in SVG and uploaded the Inkscape source
 file.

That would probably take a while to code, so we probably wouldn't implement
it that way.
(Rather than spending time coding this, developers should be spending time
making LibO start faster so it doesn't need a splash.)

 -This design ?

I like it, though I still prefer my own. :)

Usually I love mono-colored designs, but For a splash screen I must admit I
prefer a colored one ^^

3.6 is there according to a comment on
 https://www.libreoffice.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=46365

Why not eliminate the splash screen instead of designing a new one?

I don't think that the ~1 sec statistic is accurate, at least for
computers that don't have such great specs.
